If you go to Mexico, treat them with respect, don't look for trouble you will have the time of your life. It is beautiful, the beaches, food and culture is awesome. the Mexican people are very warm, inviting and depend on tourism to survive. They go way out of their way to be helpful and nice. Los Cabos, Cancun, PV, Riv Maya are all fantastic and safe. As we say "don't check your brain at the border". If you are driving your Escalade through TJ, flashing your Rolex and get robbed, that is on you.
As for Hawaii...it is very rough. Forget Oahu. It is a slum run by iceheads. The other Islands can be ok, you just have to be very careful. Lot's of crime. The papers certainly don't report it. Many years ago we were in Oahu. My friends were walking down the main street. A sniper was on the 16th floor of the Hilton. Shot 8 people killed 5. Barely made the local paper. Didnt make the mainland papers. Every year we went some crime was committed against us. Usually muggings and robberies.
That being said if you go looking for trouble in the border areas like buying drugs, steroids, hookers etc. It can be a good place to find trouble. Of all the people I talked to that found themselves in Mexican jails, most of them were drunk and went to the bathroom in the streets. One year we went to Ensenada for the Rosarito to Ensenada bicycle race. People were actually handing out flyers saying "No Urina o Defeca en the via publica". Imagine having to tell that to people coming to your town!
My neighbor recently retired from the FBI in San Diego. He and his FBI buddies go off road motorcycle riding for 10 days at a time in Northern Baja. No problems. We have talked about the false media reports. This FBI agent had said he heard many media reports of kidnappings of Americans. He said they were all totally false. Mexicans do not want to commit crimes against Americans because they become subject to US justice...FBI, DEA, etc and face US prison time versus Mexican prisons.
Safe ??? Bullshit. Groups get kidnapped. People Get they're head cut off, Women get gang raped then killed. How do I know.... I live in South Texas. People along the border disappear very often from both sides of the border. Do not Believe the Commercials .
@mcafee1971 los cabos is 1000 miles from the border....have you been there? I have been there many hundreds of times dating back 25 years. I have driven the baja many times. Your biggest worry is hitting a black cow on the highway in the middle of the night. It is safer than most tourist destinations in the USA...particularly Hawaii. Hawaii is rough, most of the kids are on drugs, particularly meth...they steal and rob to keep up their habit.
@ranchobriant62 You may be correct . I have not been. I still wouldn't take the chance. Not to long ago a small group of people got themselves abducted in Acapulco. Yeah, I saw that on the Island and it is a shame.
@seattlehawkins They are???? they're is a contraction for THEY ARE. I should have used Their, showing belonging. Thanks for the sad attempt at an English lesson. Oh yeah ,I would like to personally invite you to Mexico . Who knows you may get lucky and Disappear .
