I really like this camera! Best HDD camera I EVER bought! Only problem, the 7th digit in the serial number is 4 so the zoom bar broke due to oil in the camera to prevent rust. If your HG10 has the number 0, 1, 2, 3, or 4 then it is at risk of this problem. Dont worry, Canon can fix it for free. (If it has been fixed before, then, your out'a luck)

That's a pretty cool camera there. I see some questions on here. hdvideocamerareview (.com) gave me a ton of info on the subject and helped me pick one out. So many Hd cameras out there, the site is worth a look if you have a minute or two to spare

I have a windows xp that's like 5-6 years old and I'm wondering if I should get this camera or the hg20. Because I'm not sure my computer can handle the HD files from the hg20. But I do have sony Vegas pro on my xp so that might make a difference

I would recommend this camera to anyone. The picture is superb, even on the lowest resolution setting. I had to upgrade to IMove '09 as it wouldn't work with any of the earlier versions. It works perfectly with Final Cut Express. I have been using this for about a year now and love it! I have lost footage due to not properly backing up my recordings from time to time, so beware about that. Otherwise, it is near-perfect in every way. I highly recommend it.

@thebigguyconnor I believe that the highest setting is 1080i (XHP). To lower the resolution you have to open up the menu and you can drop the resolution down to LP to save memory.

I can't find a way to properly edit the videos in Sony Vegas because after it's finished redering the quality is poor and blurry compared to the original m2ts files.

1. Very convenient.

2. Don't have to pay for extra mini DVD's

3. Picture is clear.

4. AVCHD is gonna be the standard file.

5. Today most softwares accept AVCHD.

6. 15 hours of constant recording on Hard Drive.

plug in the USB and the charger.

log and transfer- then put something on ur timeline, and if theirs no sound u have to go to "final cut pro" at the top left and go to audio and video settings and go to the audio and change the Firewire to- NONE. then ull have sound. u may have to do that everytime. but its really easy

The same situation in which you'd burnd through 15 hours of tape and be too far from a store to buy more. Most likely wildlife/camping sort of stuff, but you'd run out of battery power long before memory became an issue. For some shoots you just have to plan ahead.

You need to get a battery pack. The camera dosen't come with one. So for the time being, you can use it with the power plug thingy.

I'm just wondering if he does that on purpose. People reading off of teleprompters or cue cards usually blink a lot to make it look like they aren't reading off one. But you can always tell. They should do it like a play, where you memorize your lines. It wouldn't look so creepy.

yes i have very impotent question; when i connect head phone (normal head phone) there's a noise is that normal or you need special head phone?? also i couldn't connect it to H F stereo

i would like filming live band by connecting thru mixing disk to have good quality of the sound, cause i think it's most important part of this posh canon

I don't know if you got your question answered yet, but I believe I read somewhere that you have to go to the menu and change a setting to make the input go from microphone to headphones.

From what I have read, editing in iMovie is more difficult, if you go to Final Cut Pro or Final Cut Express you will be golden.

Most camcorders are recognised by plugging them in to your computer. The HG10 needs Corel software, a company that does not have the best reputation in the world. The disks don't run straight out of the box. You need to divulge your E-Mail address. Even then, if you have a firewall or a pop-up blocker, you are in for hours of frustration.

I have waited years to own a Canon. To see them handcuff their reputation to a company like Corel is very discouraging

It is the smaller type. As long as your HDMI hookup on your TV is the smaller one, i guess it'll work, unless they make a conversion cable that goes from smaller to larger.

As far as I can tell on the one I have, 24fps is the highest setting other then Hx which is High Def.
