@kminigirl The characters are from pokemon. The boy in the red is um named Red and other boy is named Green. They have a manga with them as the main characters and you can battle them in pokemon heartgold and soulsilver. =) hope that helps a bit.

Also here to clear up something. The Manga is based off the Video Game story and the anime isn't based on nothing, since it was made for young children. Only the characters in the anime are based off the characters in the Manga and Video Games. Where do you think Ash's design came from? Ash was inspired by Red which I read. //I could always be wrong but I did a lot of research.

@skyelynn5 Both the manga and anime were based off the game(duh), and I think the manga was influenced somewhat by the anime(both came out the same year), the most obviouse evidence is how big a role pikachu plays in the manga when it wasn't even red's first pokemon(not to mention how powerful it is)

The anime is its own Pokemon world which is totally different from the games and manga-In story way since it's for kids and the game and manga have deaths and such. (Besides the Pikachu thing which people make a big deal over <_< Pokemon has to have a lead Pokemon through everything, and that would be Pikachu of course.) They are all influenced on each other at points.
