  • Finding a good clip for this movie is almost as hard as convincing other people to watch it.

This is the best one I have found, nice work.

  • @gotenskae Thanks. I know it's not perfect or anything. Just sometimes I felt like doing. Glad you liked it.

  • I say the film is perfect the way it is. All 161 minutes of it.

  • @Raidenx3499 I can understand why some people think that. While I liked the idea of it...I just felt it droned on too long. It has some nice visuals and the little bit of story that was there was pretty good. I just felt like it got bogged down by its own gimmick. So, I made myself a shorter version. ;)

But I can understand why some people might like the original..

  • @MrGonev5

The concept of a short version doesn't bother me. There's already a shorter cut available On Demand (Gaspar Noe himself claims an entire reel of the movie is not essential to the film).

Adding music to footage doesn't work. This film is supposed to subjectively give the viewer the experience of the bleak silence that comes in the Tibetan Book of the Dead's vision of Afterlife.

  • @Raidenx3499 The version shorter by one reel is still too long for my taste. This video is just a teaser of sorts, an editing test if you will. It's not my completed short version. My finished short is 1 hour and 8 minutes. I focused on the little bit of story we got from the flash backs. My short version starts the same as the original, he dies and I then go the flash backs, focusing them more on his sister and direct events leading to his death, and then I go with a different ending.

  • 1KeUDjA5SX0 on yotube. I cant post link. check this one out.

  • @Raidenx3499 As for this video, like I said, it was an editing test and more a teaser for my shorter version. And I think the music works perfect, at least in my view. But, it was more of a way for me to test the editing software I wanted to use to make my short version..just to see what it would do.

Like I said, my finished short version runs an hour and eight minutes. And so far, everyone thats seen it seems to like it.

  • @Raiden 1KeUDjA5SX0 on youtube. cant post link. This is another version. check it out..

  • @KreukNP I'll have to check that out. Sorry for the late reply too, not sure why I'm not seeing notifications about new comments. What did you think of my version?

  • Hello! Just to post an update, I think I'm close to finishing my fan edit. I had a few audio issues, but I have them all sorted out and I've just been tweaking it here and there. If all goes well, I'll have it done by this weekend. I don't think I'll be able to post it here tho. But, least I'm nearing completion.

  • i enjoyed the 2 and a half hours of the movie... its not a movie telling a story ... it's more of a visual experience ... for instance the first person view... after he died maybe it took that long to be reborn ... which is why it drags out that long... even if it took 4 hours of footage to end after he died ... it took that long ... thats how i see it

  • @marsyvolty1 I can see where you're coming from, and I agree in part. It is a visual experience. I'm just gonna try my hand at cutting it down to see if there is a story hiding in there somewhere. Or, at least a shorter visual experience. I loved alot of the visuals...but for me, I can only put with that for so long before I get alittle bored. I need some story to hold my attention. If that makes sense.

I'm not trying to replace the original(and I wouldn't want to) just craft a variation.

  • @marsyvolty1 BTW, thanks for checking out my video. Aside from me wanting to cut the whole movie, what did you think of this video? Could it work as an extended teaser for the movie as a whole? How did I do with the cuts? I know some of the stuff might have ran abit long...but, it was my first try at this.

  • @MrGonev5 well i do like it ... but if its cut as a shorter version of the movie i reccomend showing the rebirth ... not as graphic as the movie considering this is youtube but that way u see death , wandering spirit, memories, rebirth...

  • @marsyvolty1 when I do my recut of the movie, I'll be showing that for sure. That's what I intend to do anyway. I'll show him die, seeing his life, showing him wandering around, following his sister and then being reborn. For this little teaser(as it were), I just left with the death. But yea, I intend to show more in the short film version. Tho sadly I won't be posting that here to YouTube.

  • @MrGonev5 well i'd like to see what u got when ur finished...

  • @marsyvolty1 Hopefully I'll be able to find a way to show you. Right now I'm having issues with the audio. There is low frequency hum under every scene, but it changes pitch alot, so when I make a cut, you can audibly tell, as that sound doesn't quite match. Trying to figure a way around it..

  • please please please please don't attempt to do it to the whole film.

  • @JordyPordyPuddinNPie Why not? I don't think it works as a 2 and half hour movie, so I'm going to make myself a shorter version thats about an hour long.

I take it you're a fan of the flick? I've had a few hardcore fans on a different board tell me I shouldn't either and I can't understand that. I mean, it's not like I'm going to make it so you can never watch the original. I'm just doing something for me.

As for this video(teaser or music video if you will), what are your thoughts?

  • I'd say you've successfully trimmed the movie.

Oh, wait... that was a trailer.

  • @CortxVortx Hee hee...yea, I thats what I was going for. To condense it down to about 5 minutes. If I can do that, then I should be good to make it alittle longer, but still cutting it down from the 2 and half hours it is.

Tho, if I don;t do anything else, least I did this. And I think I like it. It turned out pretty good.

  • No probs, The blood and the small round hole in his chest at the start is probably enough, I was just double checking so i wouldnt sound too dense lol.

  • @MrNaynay2012 Nope, I didn't think you were. It was a valid question. :)

  • You are right about the camera angles and imagery, very cool. The ouroboros style ending/beginning is a fave of mine.

Very Melancholy, the Radiohead song is a snug fit.

But what happened at the end? Was he shot?

  • @MrNaynay2012 Thanks for the reply. Yea, I was going for a 'ending where it began' type of thing, so I'm glad you liked how it turned out. I was hoping I did a decent job with it.

And yes, he was shot at the end. I tried to think of a way to make that alittle more clear, but since I left the original audio of the movie out, it was harder to tell what was going on. In the actual short film I hope to cut the original movie into, that will of course be made more clear.

    Thanks for watching it!
