  • Charlie O'Donnell what an amazing voice. He was my favorite announcer of all time next to Rod Roddy. Wheel hasn't been the same without Charlie. Even though Jim Thornton is really good, Charlie will forever be the best with Rod Roddy.

  • Notice the local footage is still on film while the national stuff is on videotape.

  • Is this following when he left WOF?

  • Just learned today of his death. Hearing him announce the news takes me back to my childhood.

    RIP

  • Your mellow voice will be greatly missed Charlie. Say hello to the rest of the announcing greats up there!

  • He was a newscaster too?

  • RIP, Charlie! You made KCOP great!

  • RIP Charlie O!

  • RIP CHARLIE WE LOVE & MISS U!!!

  • Rest in peace, Charlie O'Donnell.

  • rip chaile o'donnell

  • President Reagan says he's prepared to veto any bills that spend too much money....especially bills that cost the country over ONE TRIIIIIIIIILLLION DOLLARS!!!

  • @tktru Who repeated that promise? Oh wait....Obama.

  • @longhairfan Wasn't trying to be political, but OK sure.

  • R.I.P. Charlie O'Donnel

  • I remembered that Charlie O'Donnel was not only the Anchor of KCOP Channel 13 News when I was a Kid (1970's) but he also at the same time announced programs for KCOP.

I espcially remember him advertising for the old TV Series TARZAN. I

  • There'll never be another one like him. I had the honor of hearing his voice in person when i was younger at a "WOF" taping.

  • We will never forget the voice of America Bandstand & Wheel Of Fortune. RIP Charlie. God Speed! :'(

  • RIP Charlie O'Donnell. :'(

  • RIP Charlie O'Donnell

  • Yeah, Charlie has that "old school" delivery. He, along with Bob Eubanks, was a disc jockey on KRLA in the 60s. He was "The Jolly Lean Giant" on the Big 1110.

  • Wow! I didn't know Charlie O was a news reporter. He does that very well just like announcing game shows. His voice is just awesome!

  • @mrhorgan - Mr. O'Donnell also handled the news portion (as I'm told) of Simon & Garfunkel's "7 O'Clock News/Silent Night," the ending track of their 1966 LP "Parsley, Sage, Rosemary & Thyme."

  • Charlie O' Donnell would later play a fictional KPRC news anchor in the 1993 HBO flim 'The Positively True Adventures of the Alleged Texas Cheerleader-Murdering Mom'.

  • "A man was shot and killed today, more at 11. Now stay tuned for WHEEEEEEEEEL OF FORTUNE!!!"

  • Imagine this for a dream newscast:

"This is the Six O'Clock News Hour with Charlie O' Donnell and Johnny Olson, plus Gene Wood with weather, and Johnny Gilbert with sports!"

It would've burned up the L.A. news ratings!

  • and from our New York bureau, Alan Kalter

  • @terjer01 Forgot to add "Plus Point/Counterpoint" with Jack Clark and Jay Stewart!"

  • I would actually watch that...lol

  • @johnnyafairbanks I love your brain right now... Lol!

  • @johnnyafairbanks yes it would

  • the man had agreat voice!!!

  • Actually i think that he does have a nice relaxing voice

  • Charlie also announced The $25,000 Pyramid.

  • Charlie became an announcer for The Joker's Wild and Tic Tac Dough from 1982 to 1986.

  • ...president Reagan says he preapred to veto any bill that spends more than 100 thoussssaaaand dollars ..... :)

  • I think during this time, Charlie O was under contract with B&E to do their shows until he was hired back to do his current duties as WoF announcer in 1989. But anyway, this is very rare.

  • Charlie O.... a newsman? Unbelievable. He's got a voice for "The Joker's Wild", but he can sure turn on the professionalism for the news.

  • As if game show announcing isn't "professional"....maybe you mean "gravitas" or "seriousness?"

  • Yes, that too. Gravitas.

  • Tic Tac Dough and The Joker's Wild were filmed out of channel 13's studios starting in 1981 Charlie started announcing on these shows in this year so he must have been very busy.

  • He was the only announcer for American Bandstand 1958-68

  • fuck his voice is powerful

  • @gsgeek540 GOD, he was GREAT.

  • Interesting

  • Charlie did mornings at KRLA in L.A. during 1966-67. Reelradio on the web has a great aircheck.

  • that next year after '81 he did some annoucing on tic tac dough

  • And the Joker's Wild.

  • And Bullseye.

  • And 21

  • And Hot Potato, too!

  • If you mean the unsold pilot for "21" in 1982, yes.

  • Yes, I meant that.

  • Comment removed

  • Charlie also played a news anchor in the 1993 TV movie "The Positively True Adventures of the Alleged Texas Cheerleader-Murdering Mom" starring Holly Hunter.

  • Charlie O'Donnell as a news anchor? That just doesn't seem right.

  • Mr. O'Donnell was the newscaster on Simon & Garfunkel's "7 O'Clock News / Silent Night" from their 1966 album "Parsley, Sage, Rosemary & Thyme."
