Fans are the most hilarious people ever. Van Halen fans, for example. They keep saying how much of a terrible singer Sammy Hagar was (though I strongly disagree with that, that man's still brilliant at 64), and then they keep saying how crap David it. LOL
Why do you expect 1) someone to sound the same live as on a studio track, 2) to sound like a band when he is solo, and 3) to sound the same after 20+ years? The fact he can still sing and pull in a crowd is more than MANY contemporary 'left the band to go solo' acts. Stop hating, and if you don't like this version then GO AWAY!

All I know is Dave rocked on the debut Van Halen album! It's not my business to judge DLR's doings on a daily basis. Who cares if this or that performance sucked or not. Dave rocked on that first record!

Dave gives a good show but has never been able to sing. Ever. I have been a VH fan for many years, I liked both. Van Halen and Van Hagar are different musically. Sammy can sing and his song writing skills gave VH a better range of music. Van Halen was Eddie just rockin the guitar and everybody jammin with David yelling, screaming, and jumping around. Van Hagar was much better musically...

Most important: if you play guitar like Ed, Satch, Jimi Or SRV. Practice your ass of, find a bass player and drummer and cover your old favorites until you get inspired to write original stuff.

Dave was and still is in great shape. He just needed to accept a shorter hairstyle like he has now. The long hair made him look like Edgar Winter on acid.

it's seems to me that dave uses his voice when it's weak and cold too much. he sang for the first time in a while in both 1997 and 2002, and i don't reckon he'd built his voice up properley, so instead of of it being strong with stamina, he simply wore it out and aged it for each tour cycle. just my opinion, but he really did sound a lot more easy in 2007/2008.

The facts are simple. When Dave hit the map in1978 he and Van Halen changed everything. They were untouchable and Dave was on top until the split in 84. Even after that he reestablished him self as a solo act with a killer band and pumped out more hits. Everyone grows old. It's not about what you can still do. He put his mark in the history of rock music and not to many of us can make that claim. Love or hate, most of the world thinks he's one of the greatest frontman of all time.
Greatest frontman of all time? maybe ... However, Paul Stanley did all that kicking and jumping around in the 70s ... in 7" platform boots ... while playing guitar ... I Love Van Halen, Love DLR and own all their albums ... even the atrocious Van Halen 3 and Diamond Dave.

I absolutely LOVED DLR back in the day. Seeing this makes me feel embarrassed for him. Steven Tyler, to this day, is and always will be the #1 front man of all time. DLR did have his day though and he was awesome.
Yeah, it's not really a fair comparison. The more of an impact you make in your youth, the more you're going to disappoint as you age. When he was in his prime, no one could touch David Lee Roth. Watch some of the classic Van Halen clips and you're witnessing the greatest rock n' roll frontman that ever lived. Roth during the late 70's and early 80's - no one can touch that guy!

@20carrocks as much as it pains me to say it, this reminds me of Mickey Rourke in the wrestler, Dave still has the same style, same clothes, same look, wishing it was 1982, doing the kicks at a fraction of what he did them in his prime, and soundling terrible. LIke I said it pains me to say that.

Totally agree. David in his prime was untouchable, one of a kind, extreme high energy,
Ozzing out male sexuality. He knew what he had and knew how to use it. Not unlike many hot female stars. His bed has so many notches, it's now a pile of sawdust. Any guy being negative out there is jealous beyond words.

it's seems to me that dave uses his voice when it's weak and cold too much. he sang for the first time in a while in both 1997 and 2002, and i don't reckon he'd built his voice up properley, so instead of of it being strong with stamina, he simply wore it out and aged it for each tour cycle. just my opinion, but he really did sound a lot more easy in 2007/2008.

Freddie Mercury was one of the best singers however DLR was a better front man
Mercury posed and strutted DLR leaped did splits kicks flew through the air
Mercury and Steve Perry of Journey were arguably the two best singers in rock
DLR is also in te top ten along with Plant and Lou Gramm
Plant however was a poser not a great performer
Steve Perry is one of the best front men he put on an amazing show

I love this! All your hatefull comments, you're forgetting everything about DLR is for fun! The hair, the clothes, this "missed" lyrics. Everyones's a critic. How many of you will be able to wear tight pants and an open shirt at 48 years old? None. In 1982 if you wondered what he would be like in 2002, I would have guessed close to this!
After the tour he cuts all the hair off, puts the money in the bank and goes hiking in the jungle. And he couldn't give a flying fuck!

The facts are simple. When Dave hit the map in1978 he and Van Halen changed everything. They were untouchable and Dave was on top until the split in 84. Even after that he reestablished him self as a solo act with a killer band and pumped out more hits. Everyone grows old. It's not about what you can still do. He put his mark in the history of rock music and not to many of us can make that claim. Love or hate, most of the world thinks he's one of the greatest frontman of all time.

Greatest frontman of all time? maybe ... However, Paul Stanley did all that kicking and jumping around in the 70s ... in 7" platform boots ... while playing guitar ... I Love Van Halen, Love DLR and own all their albums ... even the atrocious Van Halen 3 and Diamond Dave.

I absolutely LOVED DLR back in the day. Seeing this makes me feel embarrassed for him. Steven Tyler, to this day, is and always will be the #1 front man of all time. DLR did have his day though and he was awesome.

Yeah, it's not really a fair comparison. The more of an impact you make in your youth, the more you're going to disappoint as you age. When he was in his prime, no one could touch David Lee Roth. Watch some of the classic Van Halen clips and you're witnessing the greatest rock n' roll frontman that ever lived. Roth during the late 70's and early 80's - no one can touch that guy!

I was just introduced to Ray Luzier drummer on this video. He currently is playing for Korn. I would have to say he is in the top 5 of the best rock drummers out there today.
