I really enjoyed this! There's so many great Pirates to add, Wagner, Bonds, Phillippe, etc., On the bench you can put madlock and in the bullpen Tekulve & Ellis!
As far as Barry Bonds goes, anybody who couldn't wait to get out of Pittsburgh has no place in that line up. He tanked two league championship series while he was with the Pirates.
This posted video, “40 Years in 3 Minutes” revisits key moments in history over the last 40 years. But, if you look carefully, among the fast-moving images synchronized to The Beatles' GET BACK and GLASS ONION, you'll see all 3 Pittsburgh sports teams represented here. Enjoy.
You managed to leave four hall of famers off the team. Richie Hebner at third base over HOFer Pie Traynor was, by far, the worst. Honus Wagner, Paul Waner and Lloyd Waner were the others.
Richie Hebner was one of my favorites too. But that doesn't make him an all time great. Another thing, This person could not have seen Roberto make an over the shoulder catch deep in the corner, pivot and throw a clothesline on NO HOP to 3rd base to get a runner out. I'll watch that over 10 home runs
Clemente was the best right field not only in Pittsburgh, but in history and you have him in center field???? What are you smoking ? And where is Honus Wagner?
i had to stop this as soon as i saw that honus wagner (perhaps the greatest ss of all time) was the not the starting ss for the all time team. obviously, this person knows nothing of the history of the pirates.
Wagner is the greatest shortstop of all time, so he has to be in far, far ahead of Groat. Also, I understand that Barry Bonds is unpopular, but he's also one of the greatest players (if not the greatest) that the Pirates have ever had. I think a myth has grown up around him that he wasn't really a dangerous hitter until the steroids, but that's not true. He was always one of the most feared hitters in the game. Even in Pittsburgh.
All time Pittsburgh Pirates team of faggott crack smokers or real baseball players? First base Bob Robertson 2nd base Rennie stennett SS Jackie hernandez 3rd base R Hebner Lf W Stargell Cf Al Oliver Rf R Clemente C Jose Pagon Dh John The hammer Milner Phitter Dave parker P Steve Blass P Denny Neagle M Jim Leland
Mine would be CF - Andy Van Slyke SS - Honus Wagner RF - Roberto Clemente 1B - Willie Stargell LF - Ralph Kiner 3B - Pie Traynor C - Manny Sanguillen 2B - Bill Mazeroski LHP - John Candaleria RHP - Doug Drabek CL - Kent Tekulve
Bonds is probably a member of the all-time Pirates team but he would come off the bench. With Clemente, Stargell and Kiner. I don't see any other way besides the Pirates moving to American League and having a DH. Then Bonds would be in there with Stargell moving to DH.
@OPSportsInc --that is a tough choice among those 4---but Bonds was such an asshole and such a blatant steroid user I'd have left him off for those reasons.
@OPSportsInc Please I LOVE Wilver Dornell Stargell but Bonds was 50x the player POPs was. Bonds was also better than Clemente. iknow blasphemy but also the truth.
@glyn420 I think Clemente or Stargell on steroids would scare Barry as well as the rest of the players in both leagues. Let alone Mickey, Willie, Hank and Frank!
@OPSportsInc Stargell isn't in your OF; it's Clemente, Parker, Kiner. Bonds easily beats Parker, and you'd have better position alignment. Clemente from CF to RF, his actual position. Kiner from RF to LF, his actual position. Bonds takes CF, where he played 171 games. Not much, but at least it's more than a full season. ...None of which addresses the most glaring weakness: putting Dick Groat in over Honus Wagner. That simply can't be defended.
You lose right off the bat. Honus Wagner? At that point I stopped watching lol

Great players all. I hope the Pirates can come back and become a contending team again in baseball, it has been too long out.

Honus Wagner SS
Roberto Clemente CF (Only because Parker can't play CF)
Dave Parker RF
Barry Bonds LF
Willie Stargell 1B
Pie Traynor 3B
Billl Mazeroski 2B
Manny Sanguillen C

@ThePhilliesforlife Not defending the choice, but having a great arm in center is needed too ala Willie Mays.
