Got a Roland XP-80 (I know, its ancient) and a Roland V-Synth. Tascam 2488, GigaStudio 3, Voicelive and I think I still "gotta get me wonna dem!" This is a really cool soundscape if I may say as much. Thx 4 sharin. <3 synth.
@ZJhontu1 thanks, it certainly is a unique synth. Step modulators are sweet. It is only missing granular synthesis. that would have made it perfection in my eyes.
@Samadhijunkie Thanks! It's hard to say. If you mean that you want to have Tangerine Dream's sounds, then i think not. The radius sounds great but you need to keep in mind that TD used old analogue synths with alot of warmth behind them. I would say your best bet for TD sounds all around would be the Yamaha AN1x. I got it specifically for its near perfect analogue emulation.
Now if you want to do TD style music but with updated sounds, radius all the way.
@tionik06 Some people would say go for the Access Virus Ti type models, but i would stay away from those. They sound amazing, while they work. I had one for a few months and never managed to get through one recording. I was working with their support team all throughout. So many bugs and timing problems. it was not worth my frustration or heartbreak. I used to have a bug free Virus C model, but unfortunately the sound doesn't touch the Ti models.
How different is the "sound" of the Radias compared to the MS2K? Had an MS2K for a month before I like the previous owner decided it had a too tame of an overlying "feel" to the sound no matter what angry wild patch I made with it, or what I tried to do with it. Loved the interface and just about every control having a dedicated knob though, been curious of the Radias ever since.
I too used to own an MS2000 and "Upgraded" to a Radias. That was a mistake. Though the Radias is more powerful, its sound is a bit thin and harsh to my ears. The MS2000 had much more character and a warmer sound. I miss that little Blue Beasty :(
@keyboardkomuso i think its all in your head. I remember the sounds of the ms2000 well and when loading the ms2000 presets onto the radias, heard little difference in sound. When that difference is so small, it can easily be altered in the mix. If tweaking the radias to make your own presets you are going to get harsh sounds due to the new types of synthesis MMT has to offer.
@tionik06 The Radias can produce the same sort of sounds as the MS2000 for an experienced synthesist... But it is more difficult for the novice. No matter what you did, the MS2000 sounded like an analog synth: you could change any setting you wanted, tweak anything, and it still had that analog sound... where as, with the Radias, if you don't deliberately program it to sound analog, it most definitely won't.
Hey man! Yeah, the MS2000 is a great synth. Period. Check out my song Haze. All the synthesizer parts are MS2000. The rest, just a simple drum loop and My Yamaha piano.EQ section. Just takes some tweaking and getting used too. Many people said the MS was too thin, but with a bit of tweaking, it can sound very fat. Same as the Radias.
I believe this was a single or dual timbre pad. Since it was my first day with it the drone was spun off of a pad preset that utilized a serial dual filter setup with hp on the first, and comb filter on the second. Alot of the musical presence comes from that comb filter as the resonance when turned up forms a strange ambient chord. other than that i fooled with LFO, oscillator pitching, noise addition, filter env amt, and tempo to speed up and slow down for the mod sequencers already in place.
This sounds very good! It would be great if you could tell me a little bit about how you went about creating such a long evolving pad. All 4 timbres? did you use the sequencers or mod sequencers?
@tionik06 Thanks! That was the kind of information I was looking for. So it wasn't all programmed in, you did a lot of realtime changes. My problem with ambient soundscapes using the mod sequencers+arps is that they tend to be repetitive phrases and not evolving/constantly changing sounds- This was a great example of a constantly evolving sound.
Perfect ! Very good work. masterpiece
