It is the power to weight ratio that counts as well as lake braking and cornering ability, not big-assness. The Focus' high tensile steel chassis is as hard as it ever needs to be in its lifetime.

Focus is a compact sedan. In the UK it's normal to pay good money for a good compact car, in the US the stigma is that small cars are cheap and crappy and economical...so the market price ceiling for compact cars is dictated by preception; under $20k.

I agree that all those cars you list are disgusting. However, this Focus RS is beautiful for what it's designed for. It's isn't meant to be a refined piece of art like an Aston, it's a fire-breathing hot hatch and it has the looks to match. I think the whole car is fabulously well designed and looks brilliant on the road. People LIKE fast cars like this to look angry and purposeful. It should look fast even when it's still. If you don't want such an angry looking car, get the ST - more subdued.

I remember when the mighty rumble of Detroit V-8's was heard throughout the land. There was more iron and aluminum in a Ford/GM/Mopar big block than an entire Ford Focus! The supercars of that era weren't out to look angry garden gnomes. They took their styling cues from fighter jets.

I'm glad I got to see the great cars of the 60's and 70's in their prime.

Yes, I agree, there were some truly exceptional cars years ago - styling generally was a lot more individual. But then, cars were more the prerogative of the person with money. Now cars are hugely accessible and there are millions more of them and, as such, they need to be built for reliability and profit margin. The whole car building industry has changed. That's not to say there aren't still beautiful cars - the Audi R8, Aston DBS, Maserati GT, Alfa Romeo 8C, even the MiTo, and many more.

The new Focus RS. Loud looks, loud colour but an extremely quiet and boring sounding engine. What is that all about? I wouldn't buy one just for that reason alone, much rather stick with for example the Peugeot 207 GTi my gf has. It handles extremely well even when pushed hard, Is quite quick and sounds quite nice and even pops during gear changes, looks wise is ok but lacks difference from the lower spec models. E.G. With a 205 GTi you knew it was a GTi, the 207 GTi is not that distinguishable

Depends on who's driving the Pug though. Yes the Focus has a lot more power but if they were both the same power to weight then i still gotta put my bets on the Pug 207. In Cyprus though the 207 is a very unrelieble car, Had absoluteloy loads of problems.

FWD is better these days than it used to be. last year for example, the new fwd VW Scirocco was driven by Carlos Sainz and Hans-Joachim Stuck in the 24 hour endurance race on the nurburgring and they finished 11th overall = 1st in the 2.0L Turbo class. bad news folks just been told by local ford garage that the reason why my rs did not show as the factory in germany is on a go slow pluss the bad bit now, ford have had problems with the new combination of pistons and linings, this will set the delivery back by 3 months of development!

This should be the 300PS Engine, Volvo developed for the S60 and V70R... nice. In the Volvos it had AWD though, but same 0-100 time.
