@SonicOrbStudios The wife says the garage is perfect for my hobby LOL .... in fact I thought I needed a wardrobe upgrade first! As you can see from my equipment list Dave, I am not running my own Audio/Video production studio. Cheers Rusty.
@tapmad - I have the Playsport and was planning to switch to Zi8 with audio as the main reason but also had the idea of just getting an audio recorder, mic and then sync the audio with the video in post. Your just turned my plan into action. Thumbs up!
@ace69er Yes and notice that it is all out of synch - not just the bit recorded this the Sony. The problem is the edit program that I use - Power Director. It is very difficult to synch audio and sometimes you end up shifting the entire track without knowing. I'm very frustrated with it, maybe there is a better program to use??? Rusty.
@ace69er As in the video, plugged the Lav mics into the Zi8 so it has stereo inputs. I bought it because it ticked all the boxes for me. I shoot personal family friends stuff and make YouTube vids. For the price you get an awful lot of value, but like any camera, no matter what the price, to get good results you need light and sound. That's why I got the lav mics and I also have a small 36 LED light which sits on a bracket with the camera - great for parties at night. Good luck!
@tapmad Yeah checked it out, still not quite what i am after, DOES it only handle mic inputs only or LINE level also? Cos i want to input audio from a mixed soruce ie mixer. Specs on the site arent clear on it.
@ace69er short answer - Yes! however you need to get your sound levels right before starting. You endup having to keep your volume down. Actually the newer Playtouch Zi10 seems to do a bit better job handling volume from mixer inputs.
You'll notice that the volume seems to go through the roof after I plug the mics into the camera, the same thing happened when I plugged into the Sony voice recorder. Difference is that I got the file from the Sony and tweaked the volume in Audacity before loading into Power Director 8. I could have stripped the audio off the Kodak file and tweaked it as well but I really wanted people to hear the difference in volume when the mic is used.
excelent audio quality for recording an interview

@tapmad Hi mate. No sorry i am new to this area of multi media.
I am looking for a resonably priced camera that has external audio inputs ie line in.
ANY around? I'm NOT having much luck.

I have these and they are great. I found doing interviews in cars gets great sound.
