  • In the sky the sixteen-day-old moon gracefully watches the changes in our lives

And from this ancient world of ours, a cloudless mirror of the moon is cast

The shapes of all these things are transient

The shapeless spirits ride only on the boat of time

Ah, if only life was a one night dream

Now let's plant these endless thoughts in our heads

Before long like the waning moon our thoughts and bodies will narrow

With thousands of tears and grief we will embrace the goddess in our arms

  • i hate to break it to you but the first people who lived in Japan were chinese who escaped the empire some time before Sun Jian and Cao Cao were born.

  • @vampigoth1155 Actually, the archeological evidence points to the Yamato tribe being from Korea while the Emishi and Ainu were Russian. I believe the Ryukyuans might have originated in China, but I'm not sure. Also, I don't understand what Sun Jian and Cao Cao have to do with it, as Japan was settled around 30,000 BC, far before even the Han dynasty was established in China.

  • @UkyoTokudaiji The most relevant and accurate comment/answer here as of yet.

  • ah yeh and I am westerner! ^ ^

  • @Xezlec I'm also annoyed that many westerners don't know much about asia and thinking china and japan as the same is totally weird, but there are always people who don't know about things. Many westerners are interested in asia and knows these things, don't worry '^ .^

  • Why does this matter who is greater than who? Just as the British and America have influenced other countries, China has influenced other countries in the past. Every country has its own distinct culture whether or not it had foreign influence. Chinese writing was the root of Japanese writing. Latin was a root of most western writing, so hush now. It does not matter. You cannot know Chinese and write Japanese, and you cannot know Japanese and write Chinese, therefore they are different.

  • beautiful music, puts me in a blissful daze....

  • I <3 JAPAN!

  • AND CHINA AND KOREA ARE PRETTY AWESOME TOO :)

  • THUMBS UP IF WHEN YOUR OLDER YOU WANT TO LIVE IN JAPAN!!!

SERIOUSLY JAPAN IS THE MOST AWESOMEST COUNTRY EVER!!!

WE ARE PRAYING FOR YOU JAPAN!!! :)

  • lyrics please?

  • What rubbish from Xezlec. The two culture are very much interwined. It has become popular for some people to say things like "China and Japan are COMPLETELY different" when the truth is that most, and I make no generalisation when I say this, cultural aspects of Japan have their roots in, or have been massively influenced by China e.g. ceramics, poetry, painting, tea, literature, ethics etc . . . The list goes on and on. Myself being Chinese, I knew the meaning of the video title straight away.

  • @Bloodlovefreak That was stated like a true Chinese. I can read the Kanji, therefore I know everything there is to the Japanese. China is superior and the Japanese suck! Trust me, I lived in Japan for eight years and there are a lot of things wrong with Japan. But to infer that Japan is not uniquely Japan is pure ignorance and a whole lot of jingoistic nonsense. Which, by the way, the Chinese are quite good at. Jingoism, that is.

  • @cleamatra Well, I've never said anythig to the effect that "Japan is not uniquely" if that is what you are implying. I was merely lambasting the reactionary attitude of Xezec who thinks that China and Japan are as different as America and Mexico. This is typical of a Westerner who lacks any understanding of Chinese characters (kanji) or how great a role Chinese writers, philosophers and poets have played in shaping Japanese ethics and aesthetics.

  • @Bloodlovefreak I think that Xezlec is right. Although the number of chinese influences is considerable (the kanji, the sadou, and the whole Hei-An stuff) many of those things took different turn than in China, including music. When you compare cuultures of USA and Mexico (or for example Britain and France) you find that their mutual influence and difference is about the same as between Japan and China.

  • @TheoEvian So you think Japan and China are as different as the USA and Mexico (since you think Xezlec is correct)? That is just objectively wrong and I have given many reasons why before. I could give more but it will be more useful for you to read up Japan a bit more. I am not asserting that one culture is superior to another, but I am getting tired of Westerners, who have minimal understanding of both cultures, spouting nonsense and getting thumbs up.

  • @Bloodlovefreak Shut up and just listen to the music.

  • I can't understand the lyrics but hell I don't thin I need to, coz I already know how she feels while singing this. That is what makes a song good, if you can feel it no matter what! ^_^

  • I know that tsuki means moon, and if everyone is saying that kagami means mirror, then by judging the picture, its mirror moon?

  • They are not as good as Kagrra in my opinion, but that doesn't mean they are horrible. I like their music :)

  • is there any instrumental version of this?

  • onami music

  • She sounds a lot like Paku Romi. I love this song.

  • Japan borrowed the ideas from China and pioneered their own. Why invent inventions that are already invented when you can improve that invention beyond it's capabilities.

  • hey! Do you have the translation of this song? I can't find it anywhere!

  • どもありがとございます for uploading these beautiful songs

  • pure paradise bliss

  • agradable!

  • oooh that's me

  • i have fallen in love with this band, there music and voice is so calming, what disbanded?

  • わたしは 日本語学生です。それ歌を大好き!リリクスを ありますが。どうも ありがとう ございます。^ ^

  • so nice the song

  • Une belle chanson ^^

L'une de mes préférées de ce groupe :)

Leurs chansons sont très relaxantes ^^

  • Is there anywhere I can find a translation of the lyrics? I've searched a bit but haven't found anything. It would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

  • hearing this song, makes me wanna fly to japan and learn japanese!!!!

  • beatiful...my heart beets a lot with this kind of music...

  • yeaaa! so true <3 there's so much feeling in traditional japanese music ! It's also really calming ^^ and it reminds me of being surrounded by nature ~ and just lay on a field full with sakura , and a deep blue sky!

I just love the music!! <3

  • Also, a Westerner who thinks that China and Japan are the same is a lot like an Easterner who thinks that the US and Mexico are the same. The differences between two related cultures are far more obvious if you're actually from one of them.

  • @Xezlec I think the more appropriate comparison would be US and Europeans, but your right, the idea of your statement is correct.

  • @Xezlec

in my country people think china and japan are the same because of the ethnicity, in my opinion its a very ignorant comparision, its like saying that a blonde german is the same as a blonde british

  • Everyone originates from somewhere and every culture has similarities to another...it's pointless to argue who influenced who. Or do you ever see Europeans argueing about the similarities..they just know that today, each country has a fully developed culture worth seeing.

  • Kagami Gatsu? The lyrics say Kagami Tsuki...

  • The character for getsu/tsuki can be read both ways.

  • the moon is read tsuki

  • wow....im just in love with this song...i listen to it whenever im frustrated or upset and then im calm and happy after listening

  • great

  • 'Kagami' = Mirror and 'Tsuki' = Moon..... Kagami Tsuki = Mirror of the Moon

  • thanks

  • the name of the song is not kagami gatsu... but, 'Kagami Tsuki'

  • what does it mean?

  • Why am I getting thumbed down for what I learned in history class. It's true. Go read ur books...

  • Has it ever come to you that history is "his story"? It might be about the same thing, but if it involves more than 1 countries u'll get more than 1 version of history from each country.

  • I meant to rate 5 .__.

    Anyways...

    It's a great song :D

  • Does anybody know where to find the lyrics to this song? It's beautiful.

  • different cultures makes me feel nostalgic for some reason xDD

  • what the names of the band members

    ?

    cant seem to find them

  • Chie, Mana & Tomoka Nagasu. I'm not sure about Chie & Mana's surname, but their websites can be found on the profile page of their website. [over in the information box]

  • arigato

  • I'm sorry for interfering in your discussion, but I know the total name. They are:

    Mana Yoshinaga

    Tomoca Nagasu

    Chie Arai

  • @Ponpokoi * Mana Yoshinaga (吉永 真奈, Yoshinaga Mana?) * Tomoca Nagasu (長須 与佳, Nagasu Tomoka?) * Chie Arai (新井 智恵, Arai Chie?)

    from wiki

  • Mana - 吉永真奈 (Mana Yoshinaga)

    Tomoca - 長須与佳 (Tomoca Nagasu)

    Chie - 新井智恵 (Chie Arai)

  • so cool chie i love that name the most

  • @paradicegirl

Just type Rin' into Wikipedia america and you'll get all your answers! ;)

  • @paradicegirl Mana Yoshinaga, Tomoca Nagasu and Chie Arai are their names. ^^

  • what the name of the song in english, mirror-what? I know what kogami means but whats gatsu?

  • This was discussed before... I believe it was decided as 'Mirror Moon' as Gatsu also means Tsuki :)

  • Though so, cause my Japanese coach (DS) , says Tsuki, for moon. but of course there are many variations on words.

  • i've seen one translation for it where its means "Moon"

  • The kanji mean "mirror" and "Moon", respectively. Mirror of the Moon? Moon mirror? Not sure myself.

  • essa música é LINDA!

  • GO JAPAN...

  • Beautiful and calming :) It's so refreshing! I love Japanese culture!

  • Me too, but this song is actually called Kagami no Tsuki but it still has the same meaning

  • Ohh true! I didn't even really notice the title - I found it through a playlist while studying.

  • これは大変可愛ぃです!!

  • Yeah Japan is the best! I LOVE their Traditional culture! And pop culture! Japan is SO connected to their past! That's what I love about Japan. But not only that, they actually HAVE a culture! And original at that!

  • I find that funny because most of Japanese culture is somehow connected to Chinese culture. Sushi came from the old way of making preserved fish rice in China, almost all of Japanese instruments (koto, shamisen) are Chinese instruments, and Japanese kimono is an old Chinese clothing style (from an OLD dynasty, though I can't remember which)

Still, the Japanese are very amazing people. (: It's just I think people should stop and remember the Chinese contributions to the "Japanese Culture".

  • But then again quite many instruments have been adapted from India to China. Every country just made the instruments fit to their culture and made their music. You can hear that by comparing Indian, Chinese and Japanese music, they don't sound like each other.

  • Of course. All is beautiful. I was just pointing things out.

I'm the first to get annoyed whenever someone says Japan has no culture, especially when I'm in China. ^^

  • Sorry, I got carried away while doing my ethnomusicology homeworkds. ^^

  • mhmm i know how you feel but yknow some of chinas instruments were adapted from persia even i didnt know that lol

  • Of course they are.

So much of China is Indian culture (Buddhism?) it's not even funny--but on the other hand, how much Shinto is DaoJiao, quite a bit, yes?

The world interacts and borrow; and make it their own.

Yet be must appreciate the individuals, and not forget about them--and certainly not insult them. :/ (many westerns, especially, enjoy bashing Chinese culture, for whatever reason? I have no idea. Chinese culture =/= politics)

  • i m not to offend you but CHINA IS NOT FROM INDIAN CULTURE chinese is belong to one of the ancient culture in the world whereas in term of "ANCIENT" it means that this culture has influenced other civilization like JAPAN and KOREA ,VIETNAM this is why japanese instrument looks chinese one because they adapt but for koto they remain the same because it is still 13 string when it is bought from china

  • i have just learn that not to fight is way better than explanation

    i like the piece anyway

  • You can say we all came from the same place, but that was long before modern cultures were formed, so using that in an argument is silly. China isn't "from" Indian culture. China has a cultural heritage dating back as far as India does. It is true that China and India have influenced each other over time, being neighbors and all. Buddhism is a good example of an Indian influence in China. But why are we talking about China? This video is Japanese.

  • Ha! That is very true! I don't remember how this got started. I do agree a lot, though, with DieSushiBitch, (Pfft) here for this song we are talking about the present, not the past, mayhaps the future. Let us just enjoy the music and picture, no?

  • well if chinese borrowed instruments and other things from other places you can't really call it chinese can you? So lets call everything its own names then

Japan has its own quite unique culture similar to Chinese and Korean, perhaps other east asian cultures

You noted correctly at first by saying somehow connected but again Japan has its own culture independent from chinese. Maybe chinese need to stop and remember the indian or persian contributions to the "chinese culture" first?

    Cheers

  • you are wrong this is the fact that even the japanese also know that chinese culture is the root of their culture and they borrowed many instrument from china ,in china only instrument like pipa ,yangqing or any otherwere from persian so is really bushtit if you say they are not from china

  • whatever dude read my post again till u get my point if u still don't then don't bother

    peace out

  • Saying China is the "root" of Japanese culture may be an overstatement. Obviously the Chinese influence on Japan has been very significant and important, but Japan has its own roots, regardless of whether they have been overshadowed by Chinese borrowings.

In any case, even some of those borrowings have been changed enough through time to create uniquely Japanese forms. Japan has its own set of rules for Go, its own *very* distinctive style of drawing and using the Chinese characters, etc.

  • Not to mention Japan's beauty is ever present. Don't you agree?

  • @Xezlec

that is very true, for example japan created philosophies like bushido and wabi sabi

  • @Xezlec Basically (I don't know if I spelled that right :\ ) Japan took the characters of china and "kind of" switched them around to make there own vowels and everything right? :o LOL I watch hetalia and i did't understand if when china (I think episode 14 O.o) said japan was making his own characters.

  • @YouLoveWaffles Japan uses 4 different writing systems, each for a different thing. Kanji (Chinese characters) are used to write most words. Hiragana are symbols that represent sounds, not words. They are used to show how to pronounce kanji, and for "little words" and verb endings. Katakana are also symbols that represent sounds, and are used for emphasis and foreign words (like italics in English). Romaji are the same letters used to write English. They are used for logos, and to look cool.

  • @Xezlec If you ask me, it doesn't really matter where the roots are, they're both beautiful cultures worth exploring, learning about and admiring :D

  • i luv tat japanese hav such unique ideas

thoh i read in a world religions book about shinto religion, n it says tat they adapted some of their religions from chinese...i don think it's all japanese thoh...it didn't say either

but tat's wat i read n tats wat i found interestin bout these two culture! ^__^

  • Well I learned in history class that the Chinese and etc...came to Japan through a landbrudge back like 10 000 years ago. And they were also joined by Koreans and etc and than these different people somehow after centuries created the Japanese people. Than after that some Japanese took the task of travelling to China to see how their culture/government and lifestyle is like and they come home share with everyone. of course not everything, but they took some ideas from the Chinese culture.

  • yes you are right

  • her voice is the most calming, beautiful voice in the world. it makes feel something completely different than any other. it knocks me off my feet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Where can I find this music? I'm a huge fan of J-pop, like Hikari Utada, and equally a fan of Japanese traditional instruments, like 12 Girls Band. If I give you my email, will you hook a girl up with a fix? XD

  • Maybe I can't, or maybe it was an accident. You just made an ass of yourself by pointing it out. The point is I love music, especially when it incorporates elements of old and new, east and west, rock or pop. You are not the judge of how big a fan I am just because I called her Hikari instead of Hikaru. She's not even my favorite, just a famous name that I know, like Hamasaki Ayumi, Akeboshi, and Yokko Kanno. Thanks, your critism has been accepted and returned.

  • Oh, please don't just argue that makes no-sence.

I don't mind if foreigner can spell or sound Japanese name correctly. So do us Japanese!

This unit "Rin' " unfortunatedly disbanded in this February. Their "Inland Sea" album is available from 《DOMO Records》 in americas. And for other titles, please check their Japanese HP.They were lable mate of popular singers you know;Ayumi Hamasaki, Kumi Koda.

By the way, You missed the spell Yoko Kanno...lol Oh,never mind! Nobody cares!

  • Ok.. enough with this pointless thread - people who overly criticize others over insignificant spelling mistakes irritate me to no end.

If the message was legible enough to get the meaning across then there is no need to attempt to show off by correcting it and, quite often, attempting to boost your ego in the process.

    Enough already, thanks.

  • Oh wow, someone spelling something wrong on the internet. Deal with it.

  • Your definately a hypocrite, you can't even spell LOVE, look at your name, it says luv....

  • 12Girls Band is a Chinese band.

  • does anyone know where i can download this. i love Rin' they are really the best mixing traditional music with modern.

  • Drop me a message with your e-mail and I'll get it over to you.

  • Sorry about all of those messages with my email. my net is acting up so i cant tell if i sent them. gomen *bow*

  • Me encanta!!!! (aunque no entiendo nada)

  • 「空に十六夜月・・・」。これほど美しい詞は現代においては稀にしか聴きません。

  • yes, the lyric is so beautiful~ I don't see this very often in nowadays too.

But Kagrra, does write beautiful lyrics too ^^

  • Ok I've had my fair share of messages saying that the title of this song is wrong.. when infact Kagami Gatsu (鏡月) is actually correct.

Yes I know that 月 = moon but it is also used as the word 'month' ie; Ichi-Gatsu (First Month - January)

So in actuality the name of this song is Mirror Month and not Moon :-)

  • What you say is true, 月 can be used as month, but based on the lyric, Mirror Moon seems to be more appropriate

  • yeah, i agree. of course 月 has two meanings, but in here, if you read the lyrics, it's talking about the moon; and also if you really listen to what they are singing, it's Kagami no Tsuki

  • title: Kagami-tsuki 鏡月 (mirror moon)

    =D

  • yeah, from what they sing, i think this is the correct one :)

  • The song is great,i love it!!but the name is kagami no tsuki!!

  • Japanese language is so so beautiful!! Oh my God!! I really really love it!! Whit this language you can express your feelings already whan you change tone of your voice.. This light music can carry you in other places.. I´am enrapt!!

  • I see what you mean.. it like... just takes you out of where you are.
