@CARDUDE143 Nitro engine superchargers don't work! They just make the engine run lean, which kills the piston and sleeve quicker! A better way to spend $150 would be to have the engine professionally modified.
@Therevo29 A .32 is overkill for the Revo drivetrain. They have too much torque. 32's don't turn very high RPM's anyway. The Picco .26 was best in the Revo for me. I tried a Picco P3 .28, but the slipper clutch couldn't handle it. I couldn't even get through 1 tank without the friction pads exploding. I sold my Revo last fall. The HPI Savage is a much better platform for Big Block power and bashing.
Woo bullet for my valentine :P He how did you manage to mod it? we tried to use a Ansmann 21. Virus engine but there was no way it would fit due to the rear diffs.. How did you fit yours?
@nitroghost666 The Picco .26 is a "mid block" engine. It was designed specifically for the Revo and requires only a different mount to drop into the Revo Chassis.
@crazybearrc No. The 3.3 doesn't have enough torque to pull gearing that high. I never hit 60 with this Revo. I got a radar gun after making this video. The fastest this truck ever went was 54mph with a Picco. 28 in it. A modified Big block engine is the only way to get it to break 60.
@RM250D8rzr It should be about the same. 5-10 gallons of fuel depending on how you tune the engine. I never kept an engine for more than 3 gallons of fuel anyways, so I wouldn't know for sure! lol.
Those are good points, but the TRX 3.3 would never reach peak RPM's with 20/34 gearing. It just doesn't have the torque. Realistically, the Revo was probably doing about 50mph in this video. I maxed out at 54mph with my Picco .28, 22/34 gearing setup. I just sold my Revo. I'm all about the HPI Savage now. It's a far stronger platform for Big Block power and bashing.
@RM250D8rzr I tried the RRP steel gear kit, but it made the Revo slower due to more rotating mass. I also snapped a primary shaft in the transmission, which cost me ~$25 to replace. I sold the steel gears and went back to the stock plastic ones. I only stripped a plastic trans gear twice, and they are about $5 each, so stick with plastic. I would recommend using a steel spur gear though. Plastic ones strip too easily. They get really hot at these speeds.
@Revomad1 is the savage just as fast and fun to drive as the revo? i want a unbiast answer. i want something that is fun to drive, and fast. what is my best bet?
When doing all these calculations for top speed it is good that you considered variables such as power difference, gearing, aerodynamics, etc. But you forgot the most important variable of them all when calculating top speed, the max RPM of the engine.
Even if the picco .26 had twice the HP of the 3.3, the 3.3 has a higher max RPM. Your Revo may be faster, but that is only because of the taller gearing you have.
The power of your engine is not increasing top speed, only acceleration.
just got my picco .26 max red dot. obby shop didnt have the THS so i went with the TRINTY pipe. its very loud! but dam its fast! what gears are you running?
if your gear mesh is set properly plastic gears wont melt..use a thin peice of paper between the gears then tighten down your motor screws, then remove paper and perfect mesh every time
Yes, that's the technique I use to set the gear mesh. Melting is not the issue. This engine just shreds the teeth off of plastic spur gears. They don't last more than 5 minutes.
The THS pipe I used in this video worked VERY well with the .26. It made a huge difference over the stock pipe. I DO NOT recommend using the stock pipe with this engine. It causes the engine to run very hot and makes it difficult to tune.
Can i use this from Robinson Racing (Item ID: RRP7937) its for slayer, but the tranny is the same i think. Did i need anything more, the slipper Plate right?
You can buy them at your local hobby store or online at towerhobbies(dot)com or other online hobby stores. You can find used ones on Ebay. Mine is for sale right now! lol
nice Revo there, i got the Revo 3.3 and the Picco 26 too, but my Problem is that my Spurgear always melt after a time of Running. The Clutch teeth and the Spur teeth fits good together. Also the Slipperclutch is not that tightened.
What should i do to prevent the melting of my Spurgears? get a Steel Spurgear?
Definitely get a steel spur gear! Robinson Racing Products makes steel spur gears that have a new, larger slipper clutch pad included. These are great for Big Block Revo's! Traxxas slipper pads only last about 1 tank of fuel now that I have a Picco .28 in my Revo. I got the 37 tooth RRP spur and so far it is holding up well.
i dont think this is gettin 60+...you have to think that out of the box it says 45 but that is on a perfect day and a lean tune, traxxas just advetizes it that way...i dont see it being more then 50 in this video... i had a .26 red dot and i was around 50 with 17-36.. now i just picked up the new picco .28 red dot..(brand new and no one really sells them yet) and i plan on going for the fastest revo record....(Over revO on the traxxas forums) and that was 66mph on a modded picco .28
You're right. I think this version of my Revo topped out around 50mph. I have a Picco P3 .28 in it now with with 22/34 gearing and it topped out at 56mph on my Bushnell radar gun. I didn't have the radar at the time I made this vid, so I estimated the top speed.
The transmission internals are all stock in this video. The external gearing is the only thing changed. I was running a 34 tooth spur gear and 20 tooth clutch bell at the time.
Google search "R/C engine break in" and do some reading. Once you know how to break in and tune your engine, the hobby will be a lot more fun. Happy reading!
Oh it takes a while to reach top speed! lol. Realistically, this truck was only doing about 50mph with the Picco .26 and 20/34 gearing. I now have a Picco .28 in it with 22/34 gearing and the highest I have hit is 56mph. I have a radar gun now! lol
already. im putting a sirio .27 in my revo hopefully i come across somebody with a picco in theirs so we can race. i wanna see the differencec between the two.
Please post a video of the Sirio .27. I was considering that engine, but it was a bit too pricey and I hadn't seen it perform. I bough the Qoncepts Big Block mount and shoe horned a Picco .28 in instead! lol
Just bought a Picco today! Cant wait to get it, this video sold it for me about twelve months ago, my engine blew in my savage and i couldnt resist :) Will have to check out the power pipe you've got too.
The .28. It has a bit too much power for the Revo though. Slipper clutch pads only last about 1-2 tanks of fuel before they fly into pieces! lol. I started using small pieces of rubber instead. I'm not spending $10 on slipper clutch pads every 2 tanks! The rubber pieces last just as long.
Hey man, how do you compare nitros to electrics? like e-maxx? e-revo? and how hard for you to repair these nitro trucks when it breaks? like the glow plugs, transmition, brakes, everything...?
dude please write me back i need to know wat ur needle settings for ur picco ,26 was cus the stock settings r running way too rich its actually dripping fuel out da back
slthough they're hard to work on, i like the MT monster which is by XTM, they're very robust and very easy to work on, plus there cheaper than the savage, well thats just my opninion.
also i swear in this video your revo is going straight in to what ever is holding the camara off the floor lol, haha
Thanks. The camera was sitting on a 9 foot wide platform about 1 foot off the ground. The platform was held up by 2 plastic storage bins. The video shoot came to an abrupt end when I drove the Revo THROUGH one of the boxes! I didn't break the Revo, but the box was pretty much shattered! lol. I wish I had caught it on camera, but it shut off just before I crashed for some reason.
LOL. Yeah, they do break all the time! Especially when you put a more powerfull engine in them! lol. Traxxas trucks REALLY aren't built for Big Block engines. My Savage handles Big Block power much better because they were designed for it.
the thing is though and take my advice, i contacted ofna about the same engine i have it on my revo, check out my revo video and ofna told me they made the engine to run on the stock pipe only, and they said that the ths pipe wasnt made for the engine so youll probably wanna stick with the stock for best performance considering they designed the engine for it only.
They designed the engine to work with the stock pipe so you wouldn't have to buy a new pipe. The THS pipe outperforms the stock pipe BY A LONG SHOT!!!! lol. I have a Picco P3 .28 in my Revo now though.
see if buku makes a pipe its adjustable so you can make it for low or high end...i forgot the name but theres also a brand that you can get hop ups for the pipe like dual stingers...
It requires the OFNA mount. It works fine. You may need to do some dremeling or filing on the mount to allow the use of certain gearing combos, but 17/36 should work without making any modifications to the mount.
The Picco can easilly handle a 17 or 18 tooth clutch bell with a 38 or 36 tooth spur. Unless you enjoy changing spurs, I would recommend a steel one. Integy makes 34,36, and 38T steel spurs.
Thanks! My favorite trick is to do a 360 and keep driving in the same direction. I was practicing that in this video. Check out my video with the Picco .28 in my Revo. I pretty much had the trick down in that video.
There is a huge difference! Watch my other Revo videos and you will see what I mean. I was using 20/34 gearing in this video and I could still do donuts on asphalt! There is a new JL racing "red dot" Picco .26 max out, which is even faster than this engine! I would buy that version if I were you.
Thanks! The 5.9 should fit just fine with a big block mounting kit ,which I now have. See my video with the Picco P3 .28 in my Revo. The pullstart or rotostart would need to be shaved down a bit to clear the a-arm though. I may try mine in my revo soon.
really nice car u go there .. i want to get the picco .26 maxx for my revo besides the revo mount do i require anything else like the big block conversion kit?? pls help.. thanks
You just need the OFNA mount for the Revo. I would recommend that you get a 17 tooth clutch bell and a 38 or 36 tooth Integy steel spur gear. If you use the stock gearing, your Revo will flip over backwards when you pull the throttle. Plastic spur gears are cheap, but you will have to change them often because they will get stripped pretty easily.
I have a radar gun now. Unfortunately I don't have this engine anymore, so there is no way to actually verify my estimate. I will get readings when the Picco .28 with 22/34 gearing gets jammed in there though! I should have the parts I need within the next week or so.
@CARDUDE143 Nitro engine superchargers don't work! They just make the engine run lean, which kills the piston and sleeve quicker! A better way to spend $150 would be to have the engine professionally modified.

what kind of power difference do you notice from the trx 3.3 to the picco .26
10% 20% 30% better acceleration? more?
Im looking at getting one, but only if there is a significant difference.
Thanks

There is a huge difference! Watch my other Revo videos and you will see what I mean. I was using 20/34 gearing in this video and I could still do donuts on asphalt! There is a new JL racing "red dot" Picco .26 max out, which is even faster than this engine! I would buy that version if I were you.

wicked vid.. way random stupid question wich i probably kno the answer to allready.., would the savage xl 5.9 big block engine fit on there??. ¿.
mysyfy11 3 years ago

Plastic spur gears are cheap, but you will have to change them often because they will get stripped pretty easily.

you should floor it and hit a straigt up jump to like the top of a 2 story. that would be the next million veiwer vid of youtube!

danm fast nice REVO im a begginer i just got a REVo as my first lol how dose that work out??
LegosinTime 3 years ago
Thanks, but you forgot to actually rate it! lol
I have a radar gun now. Unfortunately I don't have this engine anymore, so there is no way to actually verify my estimate. I will get readings when the Picco .28 with 22/34 gearing gets jammed in there though! I should have the parts I need within the next week or so.

Cool Video...but with a radar would be a bit better :) anyways 5/5 :)
