I figured it out. When a phoenix grows old and dies, it bursts into flame. The singer is saying he has been through too much, and just can't do it anymore. He refers to his partner as the fire that will let him start over.

I don't understand why this song isn't a hit...It's beautiful, and it's really catchy. Alpha Rev is my favorite artist besides Jack Johnson, and his songs are just beautiful and have so much meaning...I love it!
