  • Does anyone know of a place or book that has more of these kinds stories?

  • Hello my friend, im proudly Mexican, a book where you can find all this stories is The Popol Vuh is the history of the Mayans, maybe you can find it in any large storebook. Greetings!!!! ;)

  • the earth was not made for humans, humans were made to serve the earth. this hunger is what leads our people astray from genuine fulfillment. in a society where we are much more disconnected from nature, it is harder to realize the fact that we are now born with the hole naturally and socially, in the way that westerners are brought up with the idea that if you have no money, you are nothing. i too fear for the man, for he has lost his vision and has a far greater appetite.

  • Understand and be aware of this and make the hunger go away. What the man describes could be in our time compared to why monks meditate. The opposite of this is when someone is enlightened or spiritual conscious, the highest state of what people call inner peace, in the moment, happiness. We all should try to become a fixed point in the universe, independent of success or failure, not swaged by emotions. When we have this, we will be complete

  • Yeah.....and then we wouldn't need to consume the entire world trying to fill the void.

  • If we work on 'closing the hole' it'll free us from 'want' and unhappiness. That's what I got out of the story.

  • I might add: artificially induced and sustained hunger.

  • this is a perfect story to describe the deep hunger americans feels for material possessions

  • exactly

  • @TomahawkWarfare Its also becoming chronic in the u.k and one would imagine japan too, I feel like a man among wannabe boy bands half the time. what a shame.

  • best part of the flic, made my eyes water, Its Old, simpel, and True.. it was true then, and it is true now, may our mother forgive us for we are killing her..and may we Learn

    aho!

  • what lordcuz said

  • Dude the civilization wasn't based off Mayans they were based off the Aztecs. the story isn't about the mayans it's about the Aztecs and how they enslaved and exploited others. sure this movie is a gorefest! even i was upset by that but if you knew anything about Aztec culture it all is very accurate or as accurate as they could portray.

  • It wasn't based off Mayans?

Aren't they speaking in Mayan? It's definitely not Nahuatle.

In the movie, it even states Kukulkan...that's mayan, not Aztec.

This movie didn't seek to be historically accurate. If you want to see a more historically accurate film then go watch a documentary.

  • stillbusy, you appear not to have watched the film at all. You and all those other people who bitched about the film argued that he was pigeon-holing the Mayans as barbaric and vicious.

It wasn't like that at all. If you paid attention at the start of the film, it had a quote about how civilisations only crumble when they've already torn themselves apart from the inside.

There are aggressive and passive people in all cultures.

It was never implied that the Spanish conquest was right.

  • @l2enegadesofFunk the spanish conquistadores didn't show up until 900 years after the mayan civilazation had already passed away. and you are right the mayans were some of the most intelligent beings on the planet, they practiced astrology that is to the percentage correct as our most modern science, were artist and politicians, and fully understood the concept of "0" where europeans didn't understand until around 500 years later

  • The shaman has splashed humanity's endless greed across the sky for all to see. I will not be terribly sad the day I leave this world - and that is sad...

  • terrific story... this has stuck with me for a while since it came out. what an interesting way to describe the human condition.

  • this story is awsome

  • best story ever
