..., because of the jump of the rifle on a shot, only the first shot would come close to what they were aiming at, if shooting normal, hence they would shoot with the rifle sideways, so they would sweep when shooting! (at least that's what wifes grandfather said. He carried in ww2)
Hi guys, I'm Duff. It was indeed, my first time firing this awesome weapon. FYI, this rifle weighs 26 lbs. unloaded. Leaning into it much more may have well put the muzzle into the dirt. I was downright giddy just having the opportunity to handle this proud piece of American history. If you ever have the chance to do this, listen to the instructor carefully, and have a blast!!! LITERALLY!!!
@cykovisuals I'd love to have a copy to show off on my "crackberry". I don't have your e-mail and I really don't want to post mine all over youtube. If you're still on AZS maybe you could post something there, and we could pm each other for e-mail addresses. I'm still on there as duff18xd!
@1337n1ck Usually one BAR gunner was assigned to a squad to provide supressive fire. I'm not sure semi auto would do much good in a situation where your firing to cover your men as they flank but I have heard this rifle is pretty heavy as well.
@1337n1ck While the BAR did have a select fire, it was between fast and slow automatic: In fast auto the BAR had a rate of fire of 750 RPM, in slow auto it was brought down to 350 RPM. This is slow enough for the shooter to fire one shot at a time by releasing the trigger as soon as the first round is fired, although in a battle one would want to get as much lead downrange as possible in a short period of time to provide covering fire for his squad to advance. This was it's intended use.
Met a old dude whom carried one of these going door to door when Berlin was over-run, met a Nazi officer whom emptied his "french" auto pistol at him...twice..I asked him why didnt you shoot ?said he was a " handsome looking bastard" with all those medals,& decorations I kinda forgot what I was doing until his last bullet struck me in my ammo pouch, then I realized that bastard was tryin to kill me, so I raised my BAR and gave him 20 rounds, then I took his gun(which he still has) & papers.
@lexmark136 Thats what I said, he replied, that Nazi was shaking so bad he couldnt hold his pistol still, thank GOD he wasnt a cool one. Germans last round hit his bandalero, and his ammo belt fell around his ankles , like on cartoons, he said. Started laughing as Nazi was reloading the 3rd time. Then he "stitched him" because that fucker had a "your dead now" look.
@YeshuaHamashiach777 lol go out and borrow a friends 30-06 semi hunting rifle and pull the trigger as fast as you can then imagine it 10x faster. thats a big round your sendin down field. plus the dudes like almost leaning back to start with not a very good stance for a gun like that.
there are two automatic rifle sounds i love -- the prudent burst of the sa80 and the eat-this bap-bap-bap of a BAR...wish i could have both of those pieces someday.
it depends on condition of the gun, when it was made, how much it was used, etc. A brand new or in awesome condition one might go for 20k but thats a little much for semi auto.
the B.A.R is one powerfull rifle. I think it's one of the only, if not the only 30-06 machine guns. That would put someone on the ground in no time!!!!!!
Don't forget about the M1919 Browning! A buddy of mine has an SBR'ed version with a sidegrip, it is a monster! Another buddy of mine has one mounted to a monopod, you can check it out in my "Sugarloaf Mtn." video. Hopefully he has a larger cloth belt by now! They are very fun to shoot, hard to control, though, even affixed to a pod.
It was his first time to ever fire the weapon... the BAR is a powerful rifle that fires the .30-06 cartridge and the multiple recoils can be hard to control sometimes.
ww2 guns>modern guns :P seems to always shoot large rounds

Due to barrel bending, and ammo, they didn't want them to use full auto tooo often!

Badass Automatic Rifle.
But why they cancelled the semi-auto mode? This gun has very high recoil, it would be better to shot in semi-auto than slow-auto.
Of course I can be wrong, I have never shot a gun so I don't know what really is required for a good rifle :)
