can i pick a winner or what? he's one of my first crushes, along with bobby sherman. today, bobby is an emt and works with the carmel california sherif's office. donny is still amazing as well.
YUMMY! DONNY WAS MY "HEART THROB" IN THE 70'S. I HAD POSTERS OF HIM PLASTERED ALL OVER MY BEDROOM WALL! HE'S MY ABSOLUTE ALL TIME FAVORITE ENTERTAINER!
This was a very good 80's pop record and the production on this song is very similar to the style which L.A. Reid and Babyface was known for. This song could easily be blended with Every Little Step by Bobby Brown.
@bhkidd ... That's because Capitol itself authorized an advanced regional release to radio in the northeast U.S., and the promo copies that were distributed did not list an artist. They wanted to create buzz over this great track and its mystery artist. Once it was released commercially, radio stations were not hesitant at all to say that it was Donny. They used this same tactic at least once more, for a Poison single (I have that promo 12" single, with ??'s on it).
Oh gosh, Thanks for the great laugh. Your comment made me laugh sooooo hard. It made my dad. Ha ha. Donny Osmond better than Michael Jackson. Hilarious!!! LOL
I remember hearing this song as I was driving home from work and thought, "That sounds just like Donny!" Took me a while to confirm because as you said, the DJ's couldn't really say. What a shame.
My first concert was Donny & Marie in about '76, and I loved it. He actually waved to me. LOL Amazing what an impact he made. Love to go back and watch the old Williams clips with his brothers.
20 years ago at this exact time people were tired of him so DJs didnt say who the guy singing this was. People we shocked and mad when they found out it was him. Still the single was a major hit
@whiteipod2000 ... What actually happened was that Capitol itself authorized an advanced regional release to radio in the northeast U.S., and the promo copies that were distributed did not list an artist. They wanted to create buzz over this great track and its mystery artist. Once it was released commercially, radio stations were not hesitant at all to say that it was Donny. They used this same tactic at least once more, for a Poison single (I have that promo 12" single, with ??'s on it).
I remember when this came out on the radio, no DJ would say who was singing. We had to play "guess the artist." The name Donny Osmond was NOT at the top of anybody's list. I had the 45 (that oughta tell my age) until Hurricane Katrina hit.
I don't ever remember hearing who the singer was to the song on the radio..
the song just popped up one day on the radio and was played many times during the day every day for a couple of years.. and I only found out now who sings it!! I never would have guessed it's donny
When this song came out donny used a diffrent name at 1st cause the label think no one would buy it if it from Donny Osmound so they say it from someone else till it become a hit. This was part of his comeback after the D & M days.
@AAsh68 ... ... It's the first time I've heard this song, and it's a nice tune. It's a far cry from Donny's teeny-bopper days. He's overcome, to a good extent, that syrupy, goody goody image that he was saddled with for most of his career. It's great that he's comfortable with his entertainment legacy, and with his current career direction.
I was fortunate that I got to see him live in Colorado springs, CO in 1989(I was 14 yrs old at the time), during the Soldier Of Love tour. I still have the t-shirt...it was awesome, the sound really boomed the auditorium!
I saw Donny Osmond in November 1989 at Chrysler Hall in Norfolk. He put on an awesome show. He played all the songs from the 1989 album plus One Bad Apple & Thank You For Letting Me Be Myself. Waterfront opened. Their hit was Cry (Don't Cry). Anybody remember them? Did anybody else catch this tour? Please reply if you did. Thanks.
Yes there was a video because ive seen it many times, yes it was a mystery artist but he made a video, in it he dances by fire and has a jeans and a leather jacket on, i have clips of the video but not in full, i will j=have to put the clips on to prove my point, In the uk where it was released first it was not a mystry artist he came out as donny in 1988.
But even after the song became a Top 10 hit and when it was revealed that Donny Osmond was the artist, I thought he actually shot a video for the song. At least, I thought I saw VH1 play snippets of it on his Behind The Music special.
What a good video you made! You should be a video artist! I'm sure you can make it! I especially love the part in which you run back and forth naked chasing a stray cat that stole your carp you'd kept for your lunch in the frige.
thats true. and no the media didnt say who was singing it when it was first released. I remember because I wanted to know who was singing it and they never said. But when they did say I was shocked that it was him. But I still loved the song.
This song gets me all the womens.
