People a sore losers. Unfortunately you must remember Nelson Piquet did enough to win 3 world championships. He was far more consistent in 87 and deserved the title. He was a legend, driving a Brabahm and was able to win in 81 and 83. That car was the equivelant Lotus for Senna in 85, 86 and 87. Piquet was fortunate and lucky. But remember luck plays vital role when time, placement, skill and persistance plays role. Without these qualities you cannot be just lucky alone. Nelson Piquet a legend

Mansell sucked BIG time agains Piquet, Senna and Prost.

Mansell won more races, but crashed WAYYY more times, and wasted WAYYY more points just because he could not control his emotions, could not care for some precious points that would have made him 2,3,4,5,6 times wold champs.

Yet Mansell always ended up finding a way to throw away his victories an titles.

Well, Mansell still beat Piquet fair and square in 1986 and 1987. Whereas Ferrari signed Mansell for 1989, Piquet wasn't in demand by either McLaren, Williams or Ferrari at the time.

Whereas Piquet never won more than 4 races in a single season, Mansell ended up in the 1992 Williams and won a record 9 races in a season, and the all time record of 14 poles.

Mansell then went to Indycar and won the 1993 title, whereas Piquet failed to qualify there.

1981. Reutemann led almost the entire year in the points. In the last race he suffered a gearbox problem, and while his team mate Alan Jones easily won the race, he finished 7'th, while Piquet cruised home to 5'th and won the title by a single point.

1983. Prost won 4 races, and was leading in points in the final race.Prost's turbo broke and he retired. Meanwhile Piquet won the title by 2 points.

1987 Mansell won 6 races, Piquet 3. Piquet was champion...Boo

I DO agree. Piquet did seem to have more share of good fortune than most.

Look at his 3 wins in 87.

Germany - He was labouring in 3rd place when both Prost and Mansell dropped out in front of him.

Hungary - The next race, Mansell had dominated the race, only to have a wheel-nut fall of his rear wheel with 5 laps to go, handing the win to Piquet.

Italy - To be fair to Piquet, I think he forced the mistake out of Senna to win this one....but he was beaten for pace.

@tonypap1 Differences between Piquet and Mansell: Piquet pays tennis, Mansell golf. Piquet likes beautiful babes, Mansell the uglies. Piquet won 3 championships, Mansell lost 3. By the way, Nelson used to say that Mansell had the 2 ugliest wives in the world. One was his wife, the other was her statue he put in this garden.

Two other key differences..

Mansell won 31 Formula 1 races

Piquet won 23 Formula 1 races (Piquet competed in more races too).

Piquet was a very very good driver

Mansell was better.

Piquet was a vile, pettyminded fool, who bitched when Prost became the dominant force in F1, when Mansell beat him in Williams, and when Senna became Brazil's and the world's hero in F1.

Great times. Days when F1 cars were 'mostly' driven by men in stead of overpaid pretty boys who should still in Formula 3 ie Hamilton, Alonso etc
