Speaking of young kids I was just blown away by a version of ( Come On Up ) by two young talented boys. Its nice to see that todays music still remembers a real band like the Rascals, Play on New genaration.
I swear, if ABC, CBS or NBC took these great Ed Sullivan shows, spliced them together like they were happening now, ratings would go thru the roof.
"Tonite on CBS, The Beatles, The Doors, The Young Rascals, The Beach Boys, Elvis, Aretha, The Fifth Dimension and (that little talking mouse)." Hello, anybody listening ??
wow! isn't this AMAZING video quality? go look at some other Rock Band T.V> appearances of this time and compare. i'm blown away. obviously, remastered yes.....but WOW!!! almost looks like this was on last night, just before american IDOL or something. lol! fantastic.
If there ever was a feel good song this one is it! Saw Felix last year at the 'Moondog Coronation Ball' last year in Cleveland and he was still rockin! The 60t's by far has some of the best rock & roll! Does anyone know what the other band members are now doing? Alive or what! Thx for sharing!
Finally, someone has posted the unedited version of this great song on Youtube, as opposed to the edited version with Michelle Phillips providing commentary. Thanks!
As a 10 yr old drummer, that Dino really threw us for a loop. He used a snare stand for his mounted tom (why'd he do that ?) and he put felts on top of his cymbals (why'd he do that ?). He had us all scratching our heads. Funny now.
They burned so briefly, but so brightly! Everything Felix and Eddie wrote was memorable, but you can't turn away from Dino on the drums. Thanks for posting, Buddy.
again...one of the best live drum performances you'll ever see, he got great chops, confidence (that little fill on 1:08 says.."I'm a badass!!") just a great thing to watch.
I think I still have one of Dino's drumstix somewhere in my house, that I ran up and grabbed right after a show in '66. I believe it was a Ludwig 2B (rather heavy)
When I first heard Dino's 24" bass drum , I immediatedy went to Manny's Music and special ordered one ! My father flipped when he saw my old 20" bass sitting in the corner, no longer being used!
I got to meet Gene today and took a picture with him, wonderful guy. I always loved this band, Eddy played Conga on one of my records back in the 70's...
What's interesting is that the show's director figures out that Dino and Felix are the showmen of the group and about halfway through he gets a camera positioned to feature both of them on the same shot.
My late drum teacher said that Dino was teh one rock drummer that Buddy Rich wouldn't insult. Until I heard this, I had no idea that there wasn't anyone that Buddy Rich wouldn't insult.
@Beefheartfreak bless you young ones you said buddy rich, my god he used to come on the carson show aka jay leno now buddy was the last of the great drummers of the 40s 50s they hold the sticks the way your suppose to, this guy in the rascals is very good i remember being like 7 learning how to play, then by 10 playing rascals hot sounds on my brothers ludwig trap set, they had a really good sound had to be late 60s, buddy rich was fantastic gene krupa, sandy nelson, old names,so cool
Felix totally unique as a Hammond B3 player. World class in a category of his own. Dino on drums-one of the five best rock drummers of all time! Amazing.
I'm from Long Island, N.Y. and my older sister knew the Rascals. She would go out to the Hamptons and see them play in the early 60's..That was before they got real famous.
They were The Best band in Long Island at the time.
I read somewhere that the only group that made the beatles feel a little bit afraid of was actually The young rascals, now I can see why :) they're great
the real deal and no synths.

The maracas/tambourine player certainly gives Davy Jones from the Monkees a run for the money as the most useless guy in a rock band.

@gaspo218
The snare stand for the tom makes the adjustment of the tom easier.Dino liked it lower.
The felts on top of the cymbals does not muffle them,it holds them a bit better.I use them 45 years playing.Especially if you tilt the cymbals.
