What is controlling the AR helicopters movements? Its flight seems independent of the screen-pattern motion? Are the helicopters movements preprogrammed, or is it being operated or manipulated in some way?

guys, the board he's holding, in reality, has a pattern on, a pattern that the computer uses to calculate the position and orientation of the board using. then the video on the board is transformed by the computer to match that position and orientation. the helicopter is in the same space, allowing the guy to occlude it by moving the board closer to the camera.
This is pritty awsome. I'm looking into using augmented reality on my masters project. I think it would be a cool way of teaching some using a different interaction than the usal mouse/keyboard interaction.
And for those who think this is a fake type augmented reality into google find a site that has it as part of the site, print out the image and you'll see for yourelf it works.
i hate to burst everyone's bubble but this is completely fake. I'm a computer animator and I have a handful of different programs on my computer that can do exactly this. you record the video of the guy holding a green screen first, then paste the video and the helicopter into it.
But it's done in real time, the video is not recorded. I see the augmented reality video just in front of me, that's why I know when to stop moving so the helicopter can leave the image nicely, etc.
It can be done using editing software...but not in real time. I dont think you understand the concept of augmented reality and how it works. I hate to burst your bubble, but your a prat @mike
" I dont think you understand the concept of augmented reality and how it works." You don't understand the concept of augmented reality.... Get your facts before flaming. Augmented reality is basicly a webcam connected to a computer running a software that adds stuff to the video REAL TIME, also augmented reality could include a projector which projects an image on a sheet.
@mikedeck1 This is not fake, just because you are not smart enough to do this, does not mean that it's not possible. And if you pay attention and go look up total immersion, than you will be surprised to see that they are legit.
So stop being a dumb ass and do research before your open you stupid pie hole.
wonder if a single lens could be actuated rapidly enough left-right tilt from the rear of the lens so the pivot is behind the focal plane to generate divided L-R images for depth data which could be split for parallax or anaglyph, the ultimate is to have this all occur without having to view it through a secondary display or glasses of any type, just a projection device that can generate dynamic full color holographs in standard air.
IMO, the overlay between the L and R images with a single tilted lens would be too small, just as if you were looking with your two eyes through a hole in the wall. Two (or more !) lenses are still the best way I think.
you're right, just thinking about simplicity, one lens 2 angles = less parts but more motion, so the fewer parts is probably negated by the proneness to failure of the actuators. but hey if there is only one hole in the wall, depending on how close you were to it, you could only use one eye at a time to look through it :P
Reminds me of the news papers in harry potter for some reason.

Bad this is no AR only greenscreen and the helicopter is putted after in the video only fake bad
Nudelgang 1 year ago
@Nudelgang I'm watching the AR in live feedback, that's why I can do the motions to show I can hide the helicopter with the real object.

@hennscrambledeggs It's controlled by someone else with a joystick behind the camera

How does the software get depth information from the video? (the depth buffer)
mov0001000 2 years ago
The software knows the size of the board.
