  • it says 75.000 yen for a week that is almost 70 euro isn't that a bit to cheap or didn't i understand it right

  • Gahh!! I was so excited to stay here but unfortunately all the dates I am in Kyoto are fully booked out!!! ...just like many of the other guest houses!! D:

  • Hey, Thank you for this, I am in the process of booking the shirakawa cottage for a week...

  • So pleasing to see an Oz making such a positive contribution to Japan! Thanks for video, Mr JCD, and for raising awareness of these.

  • they're cute and he did a good job, but for me, they look a little -too- modern for my tastes. If i was gonna go all the way to japan with the idea to stay in a home like this, it's a little too modern.

  • @Gwendolinh to modern?

what do you want to live in? a wooden hut?

  • I would love to try one of those classic bathtubs. They look so nice.

  • it's very nice, but way to expencive for simplr person like me.Do you know someting cheaper?could you make video about cheaper places to stay for 2 weeks. :)

  • That looks awesome OwO

    And Kami nomi @ 2:17 hehe :P

  • Sure is beautiful! love the furniture <3 ^_^

  • beautiful job

  • Wow, this guy REALLY did a great job with these. I have to wonder if some of the items decorating those cottages didn't come from places like the antique shop you showed us in one of your other recent videos.

  • Basically their $155/Night with a 3 night minimum. That's not that bad compared to a hotel. Considering you get some good amenities. I'm still doing research though for my trip that I hope to be doing next year.

  • VERY nice and swanky!!!! I wonder...could you fit in that bath tub???

  • 0_0

  • Very very nice, thank you for the video. I would rather stay in an apartment when I am on holiday. Not a fan of hotels

  • Very nice design on all of the rooms.

  • I'll guess that the Australian man that did a lot of work for these townhouses has 2 Youtube channels, one about Japan, and one about being a silly old dude?

  • i love it!!!

  • what screen capture software are you using, out of curiosity?

  • was that your baby in the back ground?

  • I am confused: why would ten idiots rate this video "dislike?"

  • @PropagandaBuster

Chill your boots man, no need to be abusive. I disliked it because I wouldn't personally want to stay in a Ryokan that put a western style bed or sofa in a tatami mat room. Not only would the legs ruin the floor but it's completely untraditional.

  • @kumakouji - Chill? Who? My comment was general in reference to 10 unknown people. Your reply just exposed perhaps you were one of the ten. Most take a "dislike" to mean you do not like the video, not that you do not like the type of accommodation.

  • @PropagandaBuster

Disliking a video doesn't make someone an idiot, and I'm pretty sure that most people assume that if you dislike a video, you dislike the content.

  • @kumakouji - Sorry to disagree. I see the “dislike” on such a video as an unreasonable expression. However one is free to click on “like” or “dislike,” the beauty of living in a free society.

  • Mr. TJC aside from this awesome upload we must know! I heard a baby! A baby!!!!! So are you a dad, hmmmmm!!!! ;)

  • beautiful you are absolutely right a great balance i can see being able to relax but not having to struggle with overly historical facilities and such

  • I'm sorry but i'm in spirit world and when i licked on this viceo i was so expecting and patiently waiting for your opening and then it came and I laughed to hard "byyyeee guuuuyyys"

  • 1 word [Beautiful]

  • Hey "The World Only God Knows" Was playing on the Tv! :)~

  • It is like staying in a historical museum. Been to Kyoto twice and saw historical houses that were not as awe inspiring. The man is a genius.

  • Thank you for showing this! I have booked for a week stay in the Jizo-An machiya for April next year! :) Looks absolutely lovely.

  • awsome - looks like a great place to stay. Will keep it in mind when I go to visit Kyoto (probably will be a long time from now tho...)

BTW, great resources. Keep it up!

  • How much is a machiya to buy completely?

  • Love how traditional styles dominate in Kyoto. Saw a capsule hotel done in a ryokan style last year.

  • Yes I think if I travel to Kyoto I will stay here.

  • Looks reALLY AWESOME

  • Heartbreakingly beautiful! What a wonderful thing to have available to visitors! I'd like to see more of the street(s) they are on as well! Heading to English Friendly Japan dot com to have a look. I can only dream about seeing places like that in person, thanks SO much for these videos. They are appreciated more than you know.

  • Well... I'm sold! ^_^ These are absolutely BEAUTIFUL! As soon as I can afford it, I'm going. ~ ♥

  • reallly nice looking houses

  • Is that a baby in the audio background? Are you a new daddy?

I have to say I have been watching English Friendly since you first opened it and it has come a long way. Kudos to you.

  • fell in love with the hand made pottery. ^^

  • they are beautiful!! i love it! thank you for sharing

  • Very cool! Pricing is a bit vague though. On their website, clicking the IHO-AN section lists the prices per day and per week for the IHO-AN house. The other houses have no prices listed. Should we assume prices remain the same?

  • @USJbroly

Click which cottage you are interested in..

    then click "view all dates"

That should give you all the info.

Send him an email if you have any other questions.

  • I would love to stay there!

  • Wow...

  • Kyoto is so amazing.

  • How much do they go for in american money?

  • excellent video as always keep up the good work

  • I really love the website!
