The King had no power over taxes or anything else, it was the elected Parliament and Prime Minister who did that. The British monarchy hasn't had any power since 1689.

He taxed the Americans less than one quarter of what he was forced to collect from Britain, and for what? Social order, conflict and reform. That song is totally inaccurate. George III merely tried to influence Parliament on things like the Stamp Act. If he'd have refused to sign the Acts in question he'd have been in open conflict with his government, an untenable position for the British monarch in any age.

This man was one of our more beloved monarchs. They called him "Farmer" George! Just because a few ramshackle colonists didn't like having their money taken from them is no reason ever to hate him.
