  • I'm from Canada. I also lived in Britain for five years. RWD is why two inches of snow is a national emergency in the UK. On dry road, sure, RWD all the way. It's the obvious choice for drivers who are drivers. On ice and snow, I'll take FWD any day, though. When your arse is going sideways, the last thing you care about is too much understeer. RWD corners sharper when all four tires have grip. FWD corners sharper when none of your tires have grip.

  • @dabossk

    AWD - Awful wheel drive

    Fixed it for you

  • Just bought a AWD car and used to have tuned FWD car. FWD car was lighter, felt more nimble, on the highway it ate BMW's and Audi's. My AWD car feels slow on the highway and in turns though its more contained and smooth feels heavier and more sluggish. Basically the AWD makes the car feel heavier and more boring. I have gone through two NH winter with it and see no benefit over the FWD that had winters on it. My old FWD used to pass AWD cars on the highway no problem. Oh and SAAB for life.

  • RWD - Race Wheel Drive

    AWD - Awesome Wheel Drive

    FWD - Fag Wheel Drive

  • The best and fastest cars in the world( iknow the veyron is all wheel) are rear wheel, f1, top fuel, le mans, if they could make a faster car by going all wheel they would

  • I've never oversteered on FWD cars, even on tighter turns at fast speeds. FWD is great for snow. And RWD is great as well, I've never oversteered. What she says is really dependent on if you are stepping on the gas or not while turning.

  • This vid is kiiinda a cheat :).

She has the BMW correct it's oversteer my applying ESC, but ommits that it would also correct understeer, if the other two cars actually HAD ESC.

That said, she summed it up at the start, you only notice differences when you push a car to it's limit, which 'normal' people in 'normal' traffic don't do.

So for those calling FWD drivers Homo's, in my book that makes people who nééd or like RWD for better traction either race drivers or..... suicidal maniacs ;)

  • @Contact902 The fact of the matter is that a lot of the Rally cars are FWD. If you are a good driver, you will hardly notice the difference. Oversteer in a BMW is just as bad as understeer in a Civic, except with oversteer, you don't see where you are hitting.

  • People dont know that AWD is the best for drifting because to have a AWD car that can hold a drift takes like 500 HP

  • Okay fine, but what if you are on the ice? Every time I leave the city to go to mountains I only see AWD laying on their backs.

  • RWD= for fun and reckless driving.

    AWD=good handling, snow.

FWD=fun driving, well handling in snow, fun in snow, good for turns and daily driving.

None of the types of drives show the sexuality of a person, or personality. The people who post that idiotic comments have never driven a car, or are just a bunch of teenagers who just got their permit and think they are the stuff. I prefer fwd because it is good for snow, rain, and dry roadways.

  • @EAsportz1 you must be a homo

  • @ThoughtsOfAVisionary you must be a 13 year old kid who loves to play forza or grand turismo.... when you get older you will start noticing some things changing and the way you think of others. Reply to me when you get your first car and tell me if it is a rwd.

  • @EAsportz1 good defense, homo..

  • @EAsportz1 btw, im most likely much older than you. ive owned, so far, 7 cars in my lifetime. 3 rwd, 2 awd, 2 fwd.

fwd is for females and homos. sure you can pretend like youre safer in the winter but thats about it. if you know how to drive a rwd, there is no difference in winter.

  • @ThoughtsOfAVisionary If you were older then me, or at least had some smarts, you would not be sitting behind a screen calling others "Homos" just because they have an opinion that is correct. You would understand that what I posted was logical and did not try to start a comment war. Hope you will pass your permit test.

  • Comment removed

  • @EAsportz1 I drive a 1998 Subaru Impreza 2.5RS and that is a awd. I am just saying that no one looks like a "HOMO" driving a fwd. Get fucked and don't reply

  • You can control the car and still not be reckless in RWD. FWD is most definetly not fun, does not handle as good as AWD on snow, and its boring on snow because you can only drive 5 miles an hour. Terrible for turns if your going faster then 15 MPH. AWD has way better handling, turns better and is overall better then a FWD when actually pushing your car, and not driving from home to work/school/etc. In settings with rain or snow its AWD if not its personal preferance. Learn your transmissions.

  • @element509 It's not about speed, it's about tire contact. If you go full throttle during a corner, you are always going to understeer, simply because you don't have any traction in the front wheels. The key to controlling your turn is to just not push full throttle at a turn and brake a little make the front end of the car dip, which then increases your traction.

  • i fucking HATE awd, id prefer a 4wd and rwd over an awd!!

  • whats the name of the first song???

  • @kesryth12 awd ftw =D

  • AWD - for offroad

RWD - for sport, elegance, dayly serious car ;)

FWD - a freacky dangerous and cheap thing for some women to go to shopping =))))))

  • weird looking kitchen??!!!

  • Female driving,, totally

  • hmmm she can actually kinda drive

  • She just can't drive.

  • sry,I'm hungarian,but what did she say from 1:55 to 2:07

  • TIL you can say goddamn on tv in other countries without getting bleeped........fuckin america

  • Now, while I am by no means a fan of FWD, there are some benefits to it that I think people like to overlook. First, because the engine drive wheels are close, there is no need for a long driveline and a big ring-gear diff, reducing weight. Also, the lack of these things (and a transversely-mounted transmission) gives you much more interior space for a given car size, which is quite important in many car segments.

However, put the engine in the back where God intended it, and it's all fixed.

  • Get a Saturn L200! Although its FWD, my 2002 L200 always tends to oversteer. I've been in several situations with reduced traction and going to fast into a turn and (as long as the traction control is off) my L200 always tends to oversteer instead.

  • RWD FTW!!!!! its been in most cars from the very beginning so you know most people would recognize it and enjoy experience it. Unless you want to go offroading than thats AWD's job. For FWD i have nothing to say.......

  • oh yeah and AWD IS NOT 4x4! Theres a fucking difference!

  • @halflife103 Thank you! no one seems to think theres a difference!

  • I would rather drive my 94 explorer RWD than my friends 02 Nissan Sentra FWD.

It all depends on what your used too. im much more used to the rear wheels pushing.

  • Drift = RWD

    Snow = 4X4

    Rally = AWD

    Homosexual = FWD

  • @aaronp1994 Well, I can tell you, The Renault Sport Clio I have is FWD, but It goes faster around mountain roads than my dad's M5 and my bro's Porsche Cayenne... Beat that!

  • Drift = RWD

    Snow = 4X4

    Parelel Parking :D = FWD

  • understeering is the worst for a track car, rwd doesnt have this problem. this video couldnt have explained it better

  • i think i would go between those toy animals with my fwd (saxo) - even with w little slide :P

and fwd is easiest to recover from an oversteer slide (even ones which in rwd will end with car pointing in wron direction)

  • this is a good video

  • awd needs good differential system to be drivable

  • It depends on the type of the car which drive is better. Alfa is a bad example, because it should be made with RWD. You put FWD in small cars like clios, peugeots on tight corners where power counts for nothing. You can't put RWD on Clio, because it would spin out. Also, you can't drive rally with RWD. AWD can do both, so i suppose it's better.

  • Comment removed

  • @TheEryk03 for truck-4wd

  • FWD isnt bad. Look whos winning btcc. also in rally the peugeot 306 and other kit cars would beat the awd on some tarmac stages

  • @poop4256 that doesn't matter, it comes down to the driver, a lot of drivers can make their car do anything.

  • I don't get this last test idea - avoiding obstacles. I think it's somehwat wrong. If you see something unexpected on the road, the first reaction is always brake and turn. This gives all the weight to front wheels, and in case you don't block them (with a help of abs) - you can turn really well, because weight helps the front wheels grip. It should not matter, wether it's FWD, RWD, or AWD.

And yes, if you push on throttle, RWD will turn better, that is true.

    Can someone enlighten me?

  • I prefer Rwd but sometimes 4wd, Fwd is a bit boring, well u can ofcourse have fun with a fwd but not as much as in the rwd. well my favourite car is 4wd but the cars right after it is the most rwd.

  • why is awd better than 4wd? and yes, i like rwd more than fwd!!

  • Canadian winters = my Audi S4 FTW!

  • After buying my first car, I think i'll stick to RWD for life.

  • jeah, RWD is fun to push when it gets stucked in snow. awesome.

  • yeah bitch.. try a 306 maxi..

  • ah good..the alfa didnt broke during the test.

  • BOOOOOOOOOO she didnt scandi flick that shit.... I could get around that way faster in a fwd car without killin Pengu.

  • RWD all the way

  • @ashtrey05 Cops around here drive mostly custom-built VW Transporter vans...

  • Topest tune?

  • @JoshChadwick I guess that is British for "your most favorite song"

  • Skyline GTR attesa e-ts FTW...... the Nissan Skyline GT-R is predominately a rear wheel drive (RWD) car. All power, be it a V-Spec model or not, is transferred to the rear wheels. but when it need to, it behaves like an AWD through electronic torque management the pro version can even adjust each individual wheel

  • @Marshmallowrex take your traction and stability control off. if you can even find it.

  • RWD is best IMO."but AWD is better in the winter." I live where it snows about every 100 years(south texas), and I don't plan on moving to a cold climate anytime soon, so who gives a f*ck."RWD is tough to handle." A good traction control system is all you need to keep you from crashing."try playing in the mud/offroading with RWD." Uhhh no thanks I like to keep my car clean and un-broken. Also, RWD is less expensive, more fuel efficient, and lighter than AWD. FWD is good for commuting only.

  • rwd=best in a winter

  • Hey everybody, you know why most cars sold nowadays are FF layout? IT'S CHEAPER! Auto makers don't want to spend a dime more then they absolutely have to to make another car somebody out there is going to buy, handling be damned. Problem is some markets need a sturdy, no-nonsense FR car, like most police departments and taxi cab companies. Yet Ford still wants to ice the Crown Victoria platform and push the cops of the future into a police spec FF Taurus.

  • @ScubaSteveM45 that's good because more RWD cars can get away now

  • @Konformation07 Very true, the po-po will just understeer and plow into a mailbox and us RWD drivers can make our getaway :-)

  • @ScubaSteveM45 if you're looking for a getaway you don't want a RWD car. You want a dirt bike. You need to get off the roads as soon as you can. A bike could also be good as well since there's no problems with registration.

  • @Makron5 That has saved me so many times while I have played GTA: San Andreas, dirtbike FTW

  • RWD UBER ALLES

  • Why onb earth would anyone even try to apply power when doing evasive maneuvers like the one in this clip?

I just don't get it, please explain.

I mean 4wd, should be good for powering out of corners/bends, but that's basically it.

You have weight distribution as an important factor for handling, but has little to do with R/F/4 WD.

On the racetrack I love the Porsche 911 Turbo 4x4, just point and shoot. :) Fab car. Easy to drive for a noob like myself.

  • All this video showed me is that AWD is just FWD moderated with some RWD. Too bad most AWD systems are biased frontwards save for Inifiniti's 100% rearward AWD bias

  • @ScubaSteveM45 Doesn't a 100% rearward AWD bias make it a rear wheel drive car?

  • @LMF5000 For the most part it does effectively become a RWD car, but in the event you lose traction with Infinitis equipped with this it does divert torque to the front so that grip is maintained.

  • A well balanced FWD drive car keeps understeer to an absolute minimum, if you look at the WTCC and BTCC FWD touringcars you see that they take corners just as well as the RWD cars. :D

  • @rock3tcat they will never eradicate torque steer. Of all the RWD cars I have driven all could take off quick in a straight line without that zig-zag torque steer effect.

  • In my opinion,

FWD > Safer, more reliable in bad weather conditions

AWD > For trucks pulling heavy loads and other off-road vehicles

RWD > Not really dependable in bad weather conditions but good for drifting.

  • this must be an ad for audi

  • my bmw with wintertires is worse in snow than my all-season fwd minivan

  • rwd, burnouts ftw lol

  • Gr8 Video. Can anyone please tell me what's the song played @ 2:20 ?

  • @MannyJey God Damn Right ( its a beautiful day!)

  • awd=best off road

    rwd= best on road

    fwd= worst on both

  • FWD= better than RWD on snow.

  • Yep, that's why my grandma's sentra can get around when it snows here when my uncle's cobra just sits there and spins it's tires...until they plow the roads that is.

  • @iknowcarsbetterthanu FWD is better in snow and sand than RWD douche.

  • @rforracing yeah i think there was a guy who pointed that out to me 3 months ago if you look above. plus i already knew that. im implying that rwd is better on the road than fwd and awd is better than fwd off the road.

  • @iknowcarsbetterthanu More like FWD=best when cut in half.

  • rwd proven to be the best all around drive train platform. enough said!

  • Nay.

  • This video is not entirely accurate. The suspension plays a very large roll in managing the turn-in characteristics of a vehicle. In addition the weight distribution can dictate the cars reaction to steering inputs.

My AWD Subaru used to understeer like crazy, but after installing larger sway bars it is much more neutral and responds almost identically to the BMW in this road test. In addition when understeer does occur in an AWD car the front wheels are able to pull you the right direction.

  • The Audi does not have the best AWD system available.

If one looks into AWD system comparisons, the Subaru Legacy has one of the best. The Audi used in this test was heavy, had suspension tuned (safely) for understeer, and did not have the best AWD system available.

Of course if you take a really good RWD car like the BMW and match it to a sub-par AWD system the results will be skewed toward RWD.

Put a Subaru Legacy GT in the mix and I think the results would be different.

  • are you kidding? audi torsen quattro is the best awd even more so than subaru's vicious coupling lsd (which is only part time), audi's awd is all mechanical and full time 50/50 or 40/60 split.

  • hey RWd retards!

play in the mud with rwd and tell me how fuch fun it was!

  • that bitch hit the penguin because she didnt slow down

  • poor penguin LOL

  • im tired of getting responses fwd is for people who cant drive you get a nervous housewife behind the wheel of a bmw and that thing will be in the ditch if you have some knowledge and driving skill you can use rwd and the awd in this vid doesnt make any sense im almost positive awd>rwd espicially in adverse conditions

  • ...

A nervous housewife behind the wheel of a bmw... So someone who is not the best behind the wheel of a car. So if she was in a fwd she would be better off? Anyone else see the oddness of your statement?

But no. Once again.. you need to read back.. awd is only better if (read older posts)

something i thought i mentioned before..Yeah awd is better in snow as a general rule. doesnt take a rocket scientist. but if you take a awd around a snowy corner at highish speeds your in for a big surprise.

  • rwd is only better for racing why do you think 3/4 of the cars on the road are front or all wheel drive because rwd is old technology to much power loss, traction is a big one and fwd is far cheaper, and i was saying an inexperinced driver in a rwd car dont go well together

  • @cerwinvegafan FWD's most early booster were the Japanese auto makers, they wanted to expand their sales base to Japanese women, a great deal of which still hadn't driven even well into the 1960's, as cars of that day still had a reputation of being unruly and phyiscally demanding to correct in the era before power steering and power brakes. FWD was their roundabout way to eliminate many women's concerns about cars being too scary to drive, with the built in tendency to understeer FWD was a hit.

  • @ScubaSteveM45 I thought it was because having a transversely mounted engine with the differential underneath it it saves the space and weight required for the driveshaft that you'd need to power the rear wheels, also allows a shorter bonnet etc.? Or am I confusing that with the configuration pioneered by the original mini minor?

  • @LMF5000 for most FF layout cars you are correct Mini included, but there are others like certain old Audis that are FF style but have the engine mounted longitudinally (ie front to back) just like a FR layout car. From what I have seen though with most FF cars is that although it does make a shorter hood (or bonnet to you) , the front overhang from the front wheels to the front end of the car is dramatically extended, resulting in a longer nose and making front-end parking a dicey affair.

  • As an example.

Driving up to whistler last year during a bad snowfall.

    My car 07 M3

    Cars on side of road,

    Trucks of many makes

    Audi a4 quattros

and one jacked up hummer. (kinda shook my head at this one)

given i am a professional driver. I had very little problems getting up there.

  • i know someone who got rid of their bmw because of how terrible it was in the snow and the reason cars pulled over was clearly because of the conditions with visibilty btw bmw;s are possibly the worst cars in the snow and rwd cars are in general due to weight distrubution

  • @kriznaft haha nice I use my Skyline in Japan for that kinda weather

  • @JAPANTUNER100 Nice. What gen?

  • @kriznaft R34 V Spec XD

  • @kriznaft

LoL at you thinking your a professional driver because you drive an M3. *shakes head at you*

  • @V6POWA

LOL. Thats not what makes me a professional driver.

A professional driver is someone who is payed to drive. That could mean anything though. A guy delivering lays chips is concitered a profesional driver. A guy who races around a track and gets paid.. is also one. Maybe if you had done some reading you may have noticed what category I fit into. Well, used to.

  • So once again. Rwd prevails. Unless it is a variable AWD system... this is only available on 5 cars from factory i believe. At least the ability to switch 95% of the power from the front to the rear on a constant basis depending on driving conditions and attitude.

  • RWD prevails only if the conditions are good. Get hit by an unexpected snow storm without snow tires on and you will be grateful you spent the extra money on a AWD system.

  • "For fun we once took a mid 90,s a4 and took out the drive shaft to the rear. did 10 laps around a track... then put it back and took out the cv shafts... did 10 laps.. then did stock 10 laps... averaged the time out for each config.. cant remember the exact numbers.. but it was something like, 2min 19 sec FWD, 2 min 08 sec RWD and 2 min 12 sec AWD.. thought this might not be fair so we did it again with 2 drivers each doing 5 laps.. and got the pre much the same result. "

  • "That woman used to be a professional race car driver and still is i believe..look her up. As am I.If you honestly think that fwd has the traction and handling advantage, you need to go back to high school, take physics and learn about inertia. What is shown in the video is pure common knowledge to anyone who has done any serious track racing. Even the lame 1/4 mile."

  • You guys need to read further back on posts.

"As poster of this vid. I thought this was entertaining. seeing as i have driven all types of vehicles in all conditions. the only thing i disagree with on this vid is that awd can be better if applied properly. for instance the variable awd system on the new 911t is perfect. but all and all RWD FTW unless there is 2 feet of snow but in that case your not going to be driving your audi or 911t anywhere."

  • totaly agree with the vid. but the vid is pretty old and some things changed . today it would look a bit different with the awd cars from audi

  • Not quite.

The best audi has done is a 60/40 split.

Even the fun R8 is this way. Good handling as it may be. It would be godly if it was able to control where the power went.

I believe audi is working on such a thing. I was there a year ago and they were working on it then. Cant wait for it to come out

  • In your face FWD

  • Vicky is completely biased. she IS a rally driver and she knows how to drive. 90% of all "normal" drivers will just go in panic mode when the tail snaps (the RWD) and will just kiss the trees. just drove (yesterday) quattro in sweden with over 140 km/h on ice/snow roads at -12 degrees. NOBODY else could follow!

    carpe diem!

  • Hmmm. Interesting point there. I guess RWD cars are best suited for drivers who can tame oversteer.

  • lets see it in snow or ice

  • thats retarded she choose the rear only because the traction control

  • not true.

    traction control sucks.

  • RWD is great, I will never own a FWD again. RWD is great fun any time of the year.

  • thank you

  • yes, but take a good RWD car into example, a 90-97 miata mx-5 would very easily out perform a awd in a corner at high speeds (dry)

  • lets take that winning bmw in the winter, huh?

  • thats just the same as if i said "lets take that audi in the summer, huh?"

rear wheel drive is more fun in the winter anyways.

  • But did the 4 wheel drive win?

    watch again!

  • i dont care what she says a 4wd will always win my dad returned his bmw because it was so bad in the snow why do you think have the 3/4 of the cars today are fwd

  • Cheaper to make, more fuel efficient, Easier for cops to catch. (why do you think cops drive RWD cars?)

    lighter. More interior space.

    Nothing to do with performance.

  • what are you talking about easier for cops to catch that dun make sense. and cops drive rwd cars because crown vics are rwd, chargers are rwd, up in canada they drive impala's which are fwd

  • i live in canada.

about 5% of the police vehicles i see are fwd.

  • well i live in port credit and most cop cars are fwd impala's

  • ahahahaaha. Fail.

no wonder...they live in ontario...haha no cops can be smart there.

if a fwd cop tried to chase me i'd just laugh

  • @TheRiskTaker what are you taking about if a fwd cop tried to chase you you would laugh hahaha b.s your ass would be pulled over it doesn't matter if there fwd or rwd cops will catch you there cars arent stock

  • @cerwinvegafan The cops where I live have superchaged mustangs and supercharged crown vics..and some N/A Chargers. Good luck getting away from them down here! lol

  • no superchrgers up here there just tuned impala's

  • @cerwinvegafan, I live in Ontario, most cop cars I see are either RWD or AWD Chargers.

  • where abouts do you live the only people who drive those crown's are like the o.p.p mostly fwd impala's maybe a few chargers but there not awd there rwd

  • Mississauga, next to Toronto. I see a lot of cops driving Chargers, the majority are probably RWD, but I think there are some AWD versions.

On a side note, I pity anyone who tries to outrun the cops in Italy, who have recently revealed the 512 horsepower Lamborghini police car (theres not many of them though).

  • The chargers are rwd. and yeah some i think i have seen are awd. There are a few out here in vancouver too.

There are i think 3 of the lambo cop cars.

  • @kriznaft The Chevy Impala police car is FWD. the only RWD are the Charger and the Crown Victoria.

  • @TheRiskTaker : nothing to do with performance? Tell a cop that. RWD allows for better control, and is usually stronger than a transaxle.

  • rwd offers better control if a supercharged rwd cop tried tried to catch a car that has fwd or awd with snow tires he is shit outta luck and will end up in the ditch

  • @cerwinvegafan : I was talking about if it was a NORMAL situation, on a dry/wet road. I would still prefer rwd over fwd for many other reasons. But I wont get into that.

  • thats what i was saying lol.

    you misunderstood.

    RWD FTW.

  • When i move over to france i want a coupee focus. they look good...

otherwise i would like an audi b1 80...

  • I can't say that ive driven an RS ive driven a focus coupe non the less. it was horrid.

Oh btw. Your original comment, that i replied to. had rs, i didn't see RS and i just tought you where talking about FWD cars in general. I'm fond of WRX's for a reason. But more fond of evo's.

  • RS focus? are you for real? you can almost loose it changing lanes.

  • Your a fucking tripper mate. You can throw a imprezza into a corner alot faster than you can of a car equal size its weight that is front wheel drive.

    Its just physics.

  • You son of a bitch stop coming to you tube and calling names. Die bitch.

  • Go with a truck, it can change from AWD to 2WD

  • I always thought FWD was the best compromise between weight/technology/cost. FWD cars kicked RWD cars for the few years before AWD become prevalent in rally racing. RWD rules F1 only cause they run on perfect tracks and rarely in the rain. AWD rules rally now but with a weight, cost, complexity penalty. In the real world FWD works very bloody well, nobody can say the original Mini handled badly.

  • I definitely agree. FWD is easily the ideal economic transmission. Gas consumption reduction + less oversteer = perfect car for "normal" drivers.

However, RWD is probably the best transmission in terms of performance(in ideal conditions); an experienced driver is also required to tame the oversteer as well.

  • Na an impreza is okay, not my preffered but still a good car. Yes, they aren't that good looking, but really only the pre 2000 models.

  • Hmm im suprised! Didn't think FWD would ever be better lol =D

  • Bullshit, the Subaru AWD System is the best, can't understeer a Subie that easy mate.

  • here is what i think

FWD is cheap and good for a first car

RWD it's good for the experted drivers who don't get worry if the car start sliding and it's the most fun

AWD single is the worst it's only good on offroad the bad things of the FWD and RWD

inteligent AWD is the best it got the good things of the FWD and RWD cars but it won't drift it's too safety :S

  • Finally one good video which shows me what Understeer is with a proper demonstration and not just talk. I have fwd and since I am not racing anyone on the roads, its understeer does not really bother me or is noticed by me.

  • because your a fucking noob.........

When the time comes where you experience understeer, i hope its into a massive paddoc instead of a pole.

  • Valentino Balboni preferred RWD*

    Type-o.

  • I like this video, but I do not think it was fair enough.

Testing the cars @ only 50 mph? that'sit?

How can you show AWD's full potential at those speeds?

You got to go higher in speed to see the beauty with AWD.

  • The video was to correlate real-world driving on an average day for an average person. Wasn't targeted for tracking/racing.

  • You are right, what you are saying is correct. Push those cars to higher speeds/put them on a track, and AWD will take the cake, easily.

  • No doubt about it bro, for the average track junkie an AWD easily takes the cake, but for high-end drivers (F1) a RWD format is best suited. Also they're tons of fun, I'm more of an RWD person but love AWD as well. Have you seen the new Lamborghini Gallardo LP550-2? They made the Gallardo RWD (hence the 550-2) because the test driver (Valentino Balboni) RWD. Just throwing in some extra info. =)
