  • I love that wheel my name is Isobel and it's the lady Isabella I have visited it many times and the island is like a home from home the best holidays I have ever had have been there the island is highly recommended from me!

  • This is excellent! Definitely reminds of singing it in school! I am about to start a university project on the Laxey Wheel so would be very interested if anybody knew any interesting facts? or perhaps could share a memory about the wheel?

  • Are you on the island? There are normally volunteers around at the wheel who will talk at length about the wheel. Maybe it's a bit late in teh season though.

One thing I know, is that the original plans are all in metric (metres etc.) which I find strange for the year it was built. Anyone know why?

PS. I play the squeezebox on the soundtrack!

  • @bmluvzjb Me too. Year six students used to go the IOM every year. Our year sung this song in an assembly upon our return along with the rather haunting Ellan Vannin.

  • My new favourite

  • @Eriksdarling

    me too :-)

  • good one yessers, ive sung this song in a few rare places

  • I visited the IoM for 4 days some years ago. Great place. Really nice history and friendly people. Nice weather too, when it's not raining. :-)

  • Actually, if you live on the isle of man (like me) you will find that it is not a really boring place, especially if you use your imagination.

You can go site seeing, ride on trams, see wildlife from around the world, play in play parks. and there is a bunch of history connected to this island, like the Celts and the Vikings. Go to the Manx museum, Cregneash, the house of Mannanin, the 2 wheels since theres another now and the Grove museum. and this is a traditional song, like loads of others.

  • The other is the Snaefell Wheel, but you wouldn't know anything about that, would you..

  • Thanks for positive comments! Actually the song is not really traditional and not that old, but accepted as a Manx folk song. It was written by the late Stuart Slack in the 60's.

  • Oh, ok, there is alot more stuff to do but thats all i had room for and i dont want to list stuff again one more example is lazerblast, lazerblast is great fun.

Im manx so for me alot of the songs i know, i just dont know these people.

  • blairosh, I had a look at one of your favourites; I Love Technology - FULL.

Now that really is awful lol

  • or maybe he is father-in-law to be!

  • I wondered why your comment re The Laxey Wheel by the stationary Willberries.

and what your connection is with both IOM and Bermuda.

My band is playing at a wedding on saturday, and I understand that the bride is the daughter of the Poppa Kinnish whom you refer to.

  • Maybe it's because we don't moonwalk like you do? lol

Seriously though, it's not everyones cup of tea, but it all depends on what you like. If you like scenery, glens and things that go baaaa.. then this is a fab place to visit. For teens, there's not a lot to do and we envy some of the bigger towns and city's across.

  • LOL.

    Dear God that's awful.

  • Great work yessir.
