Mattingly is one of the greater players I ever lived to see. I would say he ranks about 3rd in the greatest 1B since 1990. (Note I am considering The Big Hurt to be a primary 1B since he didn't become a primary DH till about 1999. The only other guy I could think of who was anywhere near as successful as Thomas and Mattingly is Albert Pujols.

John Olerud, he was the most underrated defender in baseball. Plus he had a great bat, he never got a lot of notoriety though. Olerud, Hernandez and Mattingly are the top 1B of the era.
