  • Kristin Chenoweth is musical perfection! Such great vocal range and emotion in her voice. A song has no greater friend than Kristin Chenoweth! In a word -- PRICELESS!

  • Im singing this for vocal lessons :) Excited!!!! I love this cover :)

  • Why are you so extraordinary? I have no words to describe how incredible you are.

  • you are simply stunning, cheno.

  • editing in footage of the music man was a nice touch, added to the nostalgia of this piece

  • Holy Shiz.

  • I think i'm gonna cry

  • WOWWW!!!!

  • Good Grief!.....I was getting "chills" from her glorious voice!... what a vocal instrument of perfection the Good Lord created in Christine Chenoweth!

  • There is nothing this lady can't sing. Such a beautiful song and a beautiful lady! I would love to see her in concert and would buy a concert DVD of hers in a minute!

  • not only are you good but absolutely beautiful.paul m.

  • I am an old fogy. I saw the original, and I have never heard this song sung better. This is as good as it gets. Thank you.

  • Is there anything Kristin Chenoweth CAN'T do?!

  • Great job on this and I am so partial to Shirley Jones singing this! Kristin does a superb job though!!

  • wow wow wow!!! AMAZING!!! im jealous!

  • Voice of an angel!

  • What a great talent!

  • Kristin Chenowith IS one of the greatest broadway stars ever. Make some more albums for us please Ms Chenowith, maybe a DVD too. AND come to Australia and give some concerts here please. And great to see you unashamed about your faith.

  • @brunobaritono *Chenoweth ... *cringe* ...simple mistake.

  • this particular version was played in a wedding while the bride was walking the aisle. That moment was truly breathtaking.

  • She doesn't only have a great voice but also a radiant charisma. She smiles and shines as if there was nothing easier in the world than singing this song!

  • THIS SONG!!!!!!!! omg is there something prettier?

  • a great love song, an even better voice & a very nice movie!

  • Peerless this little wonder. And I Would buy that phone book CD well ok it would be a MP3 download now but I'd buy it.

This is a woman of lovely and thoughtful character.

    Pax.

  • sorry I know that was beautiful, but what was that clip in the middle from. I absolutely adore Kristin Chenoweth!!!

  • It's a clip from the Disney re-make of "The Music Man", starring Kristen Chenoweth and Matthew Broderick ... like much of the Disney product, it's a bit blandly directed, but it does have the wonderful Kristen.

  • @fringelily awesome, she twitted me and said this was one of her fave songs- I had no idea that was why!

  • she is a great singer

  • Being of an older generation, I still favor the Shirley Jones version for the movie but Kristin equals or exceeds it with her on stage solo version. Spectacular vocalist and cuter than a new puppy.

  • She Looks sooo young(:

  • WOW!!!!!!

  • I adore her. She's got it all: great looks , unbelieveably beautiful voice, charm, comic timing... She's a national treasure!

  • 11 idiots missed the like button.

  • @ThaliaRayne tonedeaf idiots.

  • BRAVO!!!!!!!!!

  • Sorry, Dorie. There would only be one copy of that CD, and it would be mine!

  • awesome! I have just found the new version of the music man. I found if hard to believe that she could sing that well - till I found this clip and realised she was actually singing (not lip sync)

    Thanks for posting!

  • Beautiful

  • the real singing fairy godmother! i love you kristin!

  • She is soooooooo amazing!

  • How does she do this? She makes it look effortless.

  • How could anyone call her voice bad? Her range and styles are tremendous and varied.

  • @lafleurquicache Her range and styles are tremendous and varied. Amen. Very skillful, artful singing.

  • what the? the made another music man movie after the 1962 one? she probably made a very awesome marian.

  • aaaaaaa what key is this in???? i cant find this sheet music!!!!!!

  • BRAVAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

  • A Cornish girl?

  • Anything she sings is beautiful.

  • Anything she sings is beautiful.

  • MY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I can listen to this song over and over and never get tired of it!! So beautiful.....

  • Ha, ha..I had to listen twice because I got caught up reading the hilarious comments. I've got to hear the 14 year old that can sing better than Chenoweth. :)

  • If you don't like her rendition of this song, don't comment on it. It's that simple. This is not a place to be rude. I can maybe see why you wouldn't like her if this is the only thing you have watched. This should not be your only impression. Watch the video of her singing Glitter and Be Gay...you will definitely be impressed by that.

And stop arguing. It's really obnoxious when I look at the comments below a video and all I see is bickering. That goes for both of you...you KNOW who you are.

  • Not to be rude or anything, but I have yet to meet a 14yr old that is worthy of being compared to a professional. I doubt she even knows how to sing with proper technique yet...her voice hasn't matured yet. None of you should be commenting on this unless you truly understand vocal technique and performance...that doesn't include high school plays or listening to Broadway soundtracks. Go to college and learn a thing or two about music and then MAYBE you can criticize a trained professional. MAYBE

  • @belcanto9250 Judy Garland always had a mature voice.

  • @belcanto9250 ok this person isnt attacking her, you guys are really overreacting. i think what she's trying to say is that they like the interpretation of the song that his/her (cant tell from the name) does better than this. Not saying the technique is, although it could be good, you don't no it isnt. i have a 14 year old friend that has the proper technique to do songs like glitter and be gay, peoples voices mature at VERY DIFFERENT RATES! u dont have to agree. he/she is being pretty calm

  • @jtg10795 no one under the age of 30 should sing glitter and be gay, not that they CAN'T sing it, but they will destroy their voice if they do it and won't be able to sing by the time they're 40.

  • @KirstenBeach ok saying 30 as the minimum is WAY overexaggerating. barbara cook was cunegonde in the original candide when she was like 28. people's voices mature differently. there was a girl in my school, she is now a freshman in college, who was literally about 10 years ahead in vocal development. my hi school does an opera every year and we were able to do the magic flute just because we had her

  • @KirstenBeach " no one under the age of 30 should sing glitter and be gay, not that they CAN'T sing it, but they will destroy their voice"..yea right, like Barbara Cook ? she still seems to be doing a "little" singing at 83...

  • i'm not a big fan of sopranos 5 seconds prior to watching this amazingly talented woman. well, guess what? its a complete paradigm shift! Hail Kristin Chenoweth! =)

  • Stunningly beautiful.

  • ehh i didnt like it too much

  • @sixsensation23 haha i love to see you do better. honetsly

  • @MirandaHopeYaLikeIt ha omg dude fuck you. I'm not saying I could so any better, I just don't like the way she sang it. Your so stupid. A girl in my school, owns her in the face at singing this. u dont even know wht ur talking about.

  • @sixsensation23 You might not like it too much but she is recognized as one of the best singers in the world. How is the girl in your school doing? Has she won any Tony's or got any broadway leads yet. I am not saying this to be sarcastic I am just trying to give you a reality check. If you don't like the style that she sings this have you listened to other songs by her? I really love For Good and Popular from Wicked. Maybe you would like Taylor the Latte Boy. Give it a shot.

  • @TristanandIsolt Okay like I just made one comment, and I love how you people think you can reply and like change my mind. I'm sorry but it's not bringing you anywhere. She hasn't won anything cuz she's freakin 14 years old. And yes i have heard her other songs I LIKE HER OTHER SONGS. I just don't like this one, and you can't change my mind. so leave me the hell alone.

  • @sixsensation23 I'm just totally done with stupid people on youtube.

  • @sixsensation23 I am not trying to change your mind. Only you can do that. I am simply giving you information. Why are you so paranoid? Now I know that you like other Cheno songs and there is just something about the way she does this one that bugs you. You don't need to respond to everyone in such an antagonistic way. Why don't you post a Youtube of your friend singing this. I would listen.

  • @TristanandIsolt Look, I'm trying to be cool and calm. I just don't like being attacked for my opnion, and whether you think so or not, your challenging me, and that's showing how immature you are alright? And she can't be posted online, her parents are strict, besides I never said she was my friend. So leave me alone.

  • One of the few people that can top their own movie performance of the song live! :) I love her!!

  • ham it up, girl

  • I can't stop crying..i heard her sing this in Music Man and now on this video...she knocks me out...here I go again...(tears).

  • Thanks so much for this send Mamamialove this is just a STUNNING performance!!!

  • If she were around in the 40's and 50's, Chenoweth would have been the greatest Broadway star of all time. That voice is peerless. She is too old for Promises, Promises and her talent too immense for the role but I am sure she will be a joy for audiences nonetheless.

  • @roccoh21 I have thought this exact thought so many times! I wish she was more widley recognized for her talent. I worship her.

  • @roccoh21

    no arguments here

  • She sounds stunning even when singing in her lower register. Love her voice so much.

  • What a pretty rendition!! Her speaking is voice is different, but her singing voice, is not bad at all. :)

  • i agree with MissMarionParoo

  • O___________________O

  • *shivers* <3 <3 <3

  • She has a good voice, but she was too flirty for Marian.

  • thats ok i didnt mind ;P

  • Comment removed

  • ohh i love her !

    she's my idol

  • What an incredible performer. She can do it all. I heard she will star in broadway revival of "Promises, Promises".

  • OMG I CANT WAIT =D

  • She could sing the phone book and I would buy the CD. LOL

  • @DorieEmma Oh, me too..I just love her.

  • @DorieEmma Me Too(:

  • @DorieEmma sry i accidently puy da thumbs dwn button seriously im nt bein sarcastic

  • @DorieEmma me too:)

  • i like the beatles version better/ no offense

  • this woman can sing happy birthday and be wonderful!!

  • I love Cheno, but no one does it better than Shirley Jones. Her voice and look and everything was perfect for the role of Marion.

  • I don't know..Shirley and Kristin are amazing, but no one can do it like the original, Barbara Cook

  • She looks like Jewel here, especially at :49

  • Wow. She's great in the movie, but this performance is simply breathtaking. I hate to say this, but personally I prefer Kristin to Shirley Jones.

  • For this song, in this instance, in this moment I will agree with you. Right now the tears are stilling falling.

  • i prefer Shirley Jones' softer tone in this song. Love Cheno, but just not here. <3

  • Comment removed

  • Kristin Chenoweth is an amazing singer :) She looks so young here too!

    What a voice!

  • I find her to be best Marian of all three.

  • She would play a fantastic Ariel.

  • Amazing Voice and Song!! <3

  • She does it in Bmajor. I just checked out the Shirley Jones version from the Music Man. That's in Dmajor; that's why this version sounds more mellow. McCartney sang it in Fmajor. If you're interested, check out my Beatles tutorial on this song in which I go over all the chords and George's awesome solo.

  • Overdone? Do you like to listen to corpses?

  • lol, best reply Ive ever heard

  • They all minused you down dude, but I agree. Love Chenoweth and the Beatles, but this was too much. Kinda killed the song for me.

    Here come the minuses!

  • When and where was this recorded?

  • ok i'm a HUGE kristin fan. loved her since i first saw the remake of this movie. this movie made me a fan, i've heard this song done a million different was as i spent 6 years in choir and have been singing all my life...BUT NEVER LIKE THAT!!!! BEST VERSION OF THIS SONG EVER! HOW DO I GET IT ON MY IPOD?

  • youtubedownloader. Download the program to download the video then convert it to an mp4 file.

  • thanks

  • This song makes me cry every time I hear it...

  • im singing this at school now and omg this gave me goosebumps omg

  • 2:24

  • absolute perfection.....amazing cheno.

  • Dang. FINALLY an AWESOME version of this song online. Gave me chills.

  • She's like her co-star on Pushing Daisies, Ellen Greene. Ellen could change her voice in a snap in Little Shop of Horrors.

  • omgosh

i never realised that was Ellen Greene.

what a brilliant cast that show had

  • Cheno is a goddess!!!

  • How can you judge her real character when your experience is limited to performances and interviews? She is one of the greatest show-business personalities of our time, and way under-rated. But, I do not pretend to know her true character.

  • ...How so?

  • Did you know that she actually takes time for her fans? She'll send us personalized stuff even when we don't ask for it. She tears up every time a fan says something nice. Have you seen some of her interviews? Or read her book? She's very humble; however, she knows that she's good. I mean, her voice can do just about anything. There will always be people who disagree but I hope that you might check out some more stuff on her because I think she's amazing. I'm proud to call myself a fan. :)

  • She really isn't conceited at all. I don't wanna be mean, because everyone has an opinion, but she's a really REALLY nice person to EVERYONE!!!! In one of her first broadway shows she got this great review, so the next night she really held back so "she could let other people have a chance to be noticed." She's so nice and she really cares about people.

  • Isn't she lovely. I adore her. Perfect cover of this fine song.

  • Weird clapping..

  • i'm having a hard time looking for an mp3 file of this song!

  • So am i!!!

  • I love Squeeky Chenoweth... but I can't look at her without thinking, Galinda.

  • the "ga" is silent.

  • I think that you meant that the "a" was silent. Otherwise, it would simple be Linda. In any event, she didn't change it until after Dr. DIllamond's devolution/dead (play/book.)

  • death rather

  • Actually, I meant what I said. I was quoting her in the play.

  • Nonetheless, the "a" became silent, not the "ga."

  • I think that SxNthCty21 was just making a joke, quoting the line in the musical where Galinda says "The 'ga' is silent."

  • She's brilliant!

  • How can that big voice fit in that tiny body?

  • Wow... I had to learn this song for a competition, and it bored me silly. But she really draws you in.

  • It's a great song. Not to be snide, but seriously...if this song bored you, you really don't love to sing and this isn't your calling. You have to find in a song what makes it yours and sing it that way.

  • Love Chenoweth, but Shirley Jones sings the most definitive version of the song

  • Yes, but always nice to hear a different version. :-) Love Shirley...and Kristin.

  • A very alluring songbird. :)

  • where is she singing?

  • haha to seeing the signs.

  • A truly magnificent performance deserving of a standing ovation!

  • Will you marry me?

  • beautiful

  • absolutely wonderful

  • I agree that one cannot compare Shirley Jones and Kristin because their styles are COMPLETELY different. Kristin has a "pop" sound with, at times, closed vowel pronunciation which causes a nasal sound, while Shirley has near perfect vowel and air flow placement, causing more of a bell tone vocal sound. Also, Shirley sings this song in a slightly higher key. They are each equally good singing their own style.

  • Yeah, they had to lower the key because it's TV and while Kristin fought it, the producers decided to lower it because of that.

She sung a right-key version in a concert. It's AMAZING.

  • I like her voice it's very interesting like you can't explain it you just interesting

  • I thought this was really good. Stop comparing her to Shirley Jones! They are two totaly different performances. Stop knocking her. Id like to see half of you get and and sing that to that standard.

  • isnt this song originally sining by Etta Jones?

  • You mean Etta James? - no It's from the broadway musical, The Music Man, 1956, sung by Barbara Cooke.

  • she is amazing !great control, fantastic expression. shirley jones is boring compared to her

  • her voice is so soft! :O

  • Woah. Her phrasing is out of control good!

  • Oh she's very good indeed.
