first the lava which is the wax inside first you get it theres none of the bubbles when the light is on the light gets hotter and hotter which melts the wax or lava to turn like that

it smells like alcohol because one way you can make a lamp is by using 95 and 70% Isoprophil Alcohol (i.e. rubbing alcohol), and certain waxes, like candle wax.

i got a Lava Lamp called Groovy Lamp at 5 below at King of Prusia mall (if any1 lives near there) it works well, and if it breaks its not a horrible waste of money, theres not as many bubbles as this one but i still like it

Mine does, but like with any light, it will help if your room is smaller or your walls are white. My room looks a blueish color in the dark, I just bought one like this, but a more traditional shaped one (Walmart kind) and it makes my room blue.. my room is about as big as like.. a pickup truck, like a small one.. lol I don't know what else to compare it to for size reference.

It is clear but has a blue tint due to the light shining through the blue oil.

hevaxjay- I think after a long period the liquid starts permeating with the colour of the blob- ive a yellow lava lamp which I got in 1999- the liquid was clear then but now its starting to look like the blob. Another thing I have realised is that after a long period of heat, the liquid very slowly evaporates- theres a small gap at the top of mine now. Got two new lamps yesterday. Regards

start44- I don't know about Canada but in the UK lava lamps usually sell in novelty 'gadget stores' in larger towns and cities- they are usually quite affordable and the box should give an indication of the colours of the blob and liquid. If you're interested in getting one I would recommend either a blob/liquid the same colour or a blob with clear liquid. Two different colours usually clash (ie red and blue) hope that helps*
