I have two of these keyboards, that I use in my little home studio. The organ sounds on these beast are outstanding and thats how I have both of the boards set up ,sort of like a B-3 wanna be organ. All around I think these boards are a good alternative board compared to the more expensive synths on the market, excellent sounds and post you have there!!
The Casio WK-3800 is a fantastic keyboard for anyone on a limited budget who wants a workstation/ arranger type keyboard but can't afford something like the Korg Triton or M50. It's got a wide selection of tones and although they are very Yamaha-like (i.e. boring) they can be tweaked and shaped using the MSDS that comes with a virtual sound module. The one thing I find limiting is it's ability as a MIDI controller- no MIDI In/ Out so it can't be used with other keyboards or rack synths.
Thanks for the info! I'll try to find something. Maybe Yamaha offers some sort of driver that could be downloaded, or something. It's probably just a basic midi-driver that would be needed. Of course, I'm just assuming.
Is there any way to get the WK-3800 to be compatible with an Apple computer with a driver I can download from a site, or can I only use it with Windows-based software?
@WielderOfTheSteel I have no idea, I'm actually on a mac now, but haven't tried hooking up my Casio. My M50 was pretty much plug and play, no drivers required. Sorry.
@mChongbro Song requests or keyboard demostration requests? Please note that i currently don't have my casio set up a t the moment, check my newer vids ;)
how do you load the ckf files from the memory card. I have a wk 3800. i formatted the sd card from the keyboard and it created a musicdata folder and i have dumped the files but when i want to load them it will not find it. any advice please.
Very good sounds for rave and trance. I've always appreciated casio keyboards, they have some interesting sounds that no other keyboard can get. The only problem is their fragile keyboard (though I don't know if they are all made with the same materials and structure)
If you play very well and very good keyboard, as I like to be ... soon as "Richard Clayderman". To excite people, and it reaches a motivation in her heart and have a better life than before. Well, I say goodbye and wish you the greatest luck with your instincts and move on. Never give up, and remember that we are the best keyboard players. And do not forget to visit my Youtube channel and comment. Adios
Adios
i got also wk3800 and i bought it couse of you XDD i found some datas on casio site but not that much so you got other websites that i can download from there?
I was thinking of buying either this keyboard or a Yamaha-535. Any opinions? I am mostly looking to make cool synth sounds and just mess around with the keyboard.
most of them are created on the keyboard itself using the synth section and the DSP effects. The other sounds I sampled from Prpellerhead Reason's Thor synth and absynth using audacity. They haven't come out particularly well really. I am saving for a new keyboard now.
you need to crate a folder in 'my documents' called 'keyboard'. Put all you midi files/ ckf files in there. then in the preferences window in the music data management software, set the destination to that folder. save preferences and then in the drop down menu, select the type of file you want to transfer. Then click the little refresh icon below and you file should appear in the box. select it and select a blank file in the right hand box. click the arrow pointing from left to right between
Nismology5 I love casio keyboards they are soooooooooo neat. If they were to make a WK 6000 and a 6500 based on what your talking about and make it where its like the WK 3800 O.D. on staroids that would kick ass especilly if it had say a ZPI G2 or some thing in it or a ZIP vertion of UHL some thing that would make the sounds realy fat. Some thing that would have arpeggiator thats has muti parts simulare to a Korg or some thing to that exstent. a muti part arpeggiator.
Nismology5 what modle of Casio do you think will improve on the WK 3800 from CASIO. Could the WK 500 be kind of like Microsoft Windows ME of sorts before XP came out witch was a big huge improvement over Windows ME. I think Casio is doing some thing.
lol, I think possably WK-1000? I want it to have: a scroll wheel, aftertouch, faders for each track of the sequencer, 4 different variations on each rhythm, better sound engine, full synthesizer instead of the wimpy ADSR one on the 3800 and BRING BACK THE MOD WHEEL!
Casio did make it, and it has all those things and more! Only problem is that it was released and then discontinued a very long time ago. The WK series and every current Casio that sounds "up to date" is based off the Casio MZ-2000. That was a beast. 64 note poly, 17trk seq, style recorder, FULL SYNTH engine with many editing options (including ability to set velocity curves), REAL digital draw bars with faders/sliders. That keyboard was loaded! I don't know why Casio doesn't remake this model.
The problem with the MZ was that it was so huge and heavy. Also I think the ZPI sound engine sounds a bit thin (the pianos are crap). For the same money, I could have a KORG PA50 which in comparison, beats the MZ on the sound quality front.
There was a reason for the MZ's size too. Remember, that thing has a massive speaker system in it. Also keep in mind we're talking a Casio that came out like 8-10 years ago too. Even today many of the MZ's features still surpass some of the current arrangers. It was and still is way ahead of any other Casio arranger ever made. Sure, it needs a sound update, but remember this was many years ago. ZPI is what changed Casio's image. The PA-50's nice, but build quality is terrible on it!
that would be excellent if u can send me ur sounds like the electronic rythms...trancer or anything like it...i would really appreciate...but how will you send it though..?
Thanx for all the info...but i actually got the 3800 as i think it will serve my purpose of electronic stuff ..as exactly wat ur doing here...but i would really appreciate if you could only put up a video tutorial of how u actually did the mozart software stuf and tranfer it to the 3800.. sorry if i am asking too much...but to be honest i have actually showed ur video each of my mates and they loved it...also wondering where you are from? ..have a good one...
do you have midi sequencing software? like Cubase/Logic/GarageBand? you need that to make rhythms. The sampling is very straight forward. unfortunately, i am unable to record my computer screen, no software to do so. If you like, I can send u sum sounds
well...no words can do justice how perfect you have played...10 stars!!!...i was to buy the yamaha psr s550 as i hav always used the psr's including 1100 and 1500. but to be honest this video changed my mind...and the way u play is unbelievable. i will be gr8ful if you can help me decide if i shud buy the wk8000 or the wk3800 or are they the same ?...as this will be my first time with a casio. also if you can tell me how to use the included software to make new sounds...U r the BEST!!!!
Thanks! The casio wk-8000 uses the same engine as the wk-3800, thonly difference is that it has 88 fully weighted hammer action keys. Like a piano, to be honest, I would go for the wk-3800, as it is more portable. What is your budget? I suggest you get the PSR S700. Ive had the casio for about 3 years and I was blown aay by the PSR S700 in the shop! this is funny, as I've always thought yamahs sounded a bit more 'plasticky' especially the cheaper end of their line...
I made the sounds usng the onboard 'synth' if you can call it that. Its very simple with only: EG attack, EG release, Filter cutoff, filter resonance, octave shift, Volume level, effects send and mod wheel assign. The included software allows you to convert 'wav' files to the casio 'ckf' files, so you can effectively sample more expensive instruments! I created the 'style' at the end using a simple midi program. Iwrote of the drum part, the bass part and 3 chord parts: var1, var2, and a fill in.
The included software allows you to convert MIDI file to casio 'CKF' format and play them as rhythm accompaniments with the 3800. As I said earlier, I would get the yamaha PSR S700 if you can afford it, Its worth the money. One thing, DONT get the Casio WK-500. It really sucks. I think cas might release a sucessor to the WK-3800 and WK-8000 this summer that will improve on the older models. It only a roumor though!
