I like this song!!! Very moody almost sad. Love the melody..but I have to say Shawn's voice isn't the best. He does way too many vocal runs for me. But I've always like the song. Luther Vandross once said on Johnny Carson years ago "you don't have to do a lot of runs, flips and dips to prove that you can sing" . But as I said - I still love this song.

Yea he does..when he says the lines "close my eyes" and from then on its a bit too much. I'd like it better if he just say the lines with out all the "eye-yi-yi-yi's" As a person who's been singing since I was 7 (and I'm well over 30) sometimes you do things vocally for dramatic effects, but him and Wanya do a little too much. Keep in mind - the song is hot, and I have a B2M CD, but sometimes subtlety is best. Recently a gospel artist said the same thing to me & some others at a music conference

NOPE I've done vocal arrangements, co-produced, was a producer and vocalist in a r & b group, did backup demos for A&M Records, and for some local wanna-be artists, and have done too many local shows, r&b and gospel to mention. Shawn CAN do sum great runs, which is almost all he does. People who do alot of runs often cover for lack of strong vocal skills singing sraight on. Watch BET's "Sunday Best", Mary Mary and Bebe Winans tell the contestants that ALL THE TIME. If you wanna show your vocal chops and skills, sing a song, limit the vocal acrobatics, and sing it on key and in pitch. That impresses more than how many runs you can do in a sentence.

Of course this is true, but the negation of runs shouldn't be a forgone conclusion just because pitch, key and control should be at the forefront. Pitch, key and control obviously are paramount as these are what connect with a listener's audible pallet, but if these are mastered then I see no qualm with doing runs as long as each sentence isn't the entire gamut of scales, lol.

I see the point however when young people seek only to impress as opposed to doing what's necessary first.
