It is not a choice for most anorexics. The people who see anorexics and want to be so thin give the anorexics a bad name because they CAN choose.

There are several different schools of thought within the field of psychology that ALL have differing opinions on why it occurs. They can't all be right. Genetics are NEVER the whole story and people are not just born with anorexia. There can be a predisposition but a predisposition doesn't cause something. Also those supposed character traits you mentioned don't just follow a person from birth.
I do agree with you that there is a choice to some degree, but like an addict they often don't see that the choice is there. I know you aren't born with anorexia. Alot of it has to do with enviroment and some IS genetic. There are many possible causes and in most cases it is a combination of them. The fear of food appears to them as having no choice. If they eat they truely believe that the worst thing imaginable to them will happen (getting fat).
A person ALWAYS has a choice. Anorexia is more of an addiction, that is why it is classified as a mental disorder, similar to gambling and drug addiction. The same neuropathways that release dopamine are triggered when an anorexic loses weight and when a drug addict takes a hit.
While it can't be written off as a disease, it also isn't something they have complete control over. They think by not eating they gain control when in fact they are being robbed of that and tossed into an obsession. It's not an easy thing to describe or go through. Most anorexic wish they were not and would do anything to be "normal". They cannot handle just eating because they are deathly afraid. If you have ever seen an anorexic in recovery... they portray uncontrolable fear upon eating.

Firstly, deary, I have a sister who was anorexic. She isn't anymore & is recovering well mainly because I am the only person around her who didn't pander to her 'illness'. The condition has everything to do with their choice. Its no-one elses.
Ok, maybe the action of starving yourself is a choice, but seeing a fat person in the mirror when you are not, aint a choice. What person in a normal state of mind would starve themselves? It's a choice, but it is one that is made when the person has is in an abnormal psycological state...that isn't a choice.

Does anyone wear noilta clothing? I have quite a few items, and I find it ironic that this brand would campaign against anorexia when there clothing is infact absolutely tiny in sizes, even for an Italian brand. It's clothes like theirs that cause eating disorders or the potential for individuals to develope one.
I love Isabelle Caro - she is a truly inspiring individual who expresses her feelings and experiences with intelligence, eloquence, and heartfelt sentiments. I genuinely hope that this No-Lita campaign is not tarnished internationally by the press as it has been here.

Italian fashion designers have banned size zero models from the catwalks after a number of models dropped dead from anorexia. So what is happening now is quite an issue.
She is not a catwalk model. She modeled for this campaign run by Nolita which is geared towards creating better awareness of anorexia amongst the italians after a number of incidents of deaths in the modeling industry due to anorexia. She has invited to model specially for this campaign she is not a catwalk model.

When the the (mental) pain outweighs the coping possibilities people resort to extreme measures. This can result in all kinds of problems such as gambling, eating disorder, alcoholism or suicide. The coping mechanism can only be measured relative to themselves.

She is a french model. She shows herself to prevent people that anorexia can cause trouble. I won't tell you how many girls want to be as slim as possible to be models, but after, they want to keep their weight so, they try to eat just small things or fruits, like apples.
There is a question : 'What would you think if you knew someone like that woman ?' According to me, it's clear : i would try to help her to find her way without danger for her life.

The fashion house who is running this campaign is not very well known yet. This is a way for them to get a lot of attention fast. In the same way Benetton used shock photos as a way to gain attention. She doesn't model any clothes for No-l-ita.

Italian fashion designers have banned size zero models from the catwalks after a number of models dropped dead from anorexia. So what is happening now is quite an issue.

She is not a catwalk model. She modeled for this campaign run by Nolita which is geared towards creating better awareness of anorexia amongst the italians after a number of incidents of deaths in the modeling industry due to anorexia. She has invited to model specially for this campaign she is not a catwalk model.

The problem is that people with ED are not capable of rational thinking. It's like telling a gambler not to gamble because the profit is far less than the loss. They just can't because of the psychological dependence.

I totally agree with you. But this happens not only in the nutritional department, rational thinking is missing from everywhere. What is wrong with people? If you don't have a real problem, do not creat one. That's my approach. This is a sad situation.

When the the (mental) pain outweighs the coping possibilities people resort to extreme measures. This can result in all kinds of problems such as gambling, eating disorder, alcoholism or suicide. The coping mechanism can only be measured relative to themselves.

If this is the epony of beauty I wanna stay fat and ugly. Eating gives me pleasure starvation is an unending sorrow. And does bad things to your body. I hope this campaign helps people even if its just 1 person.
