I think you completely missed the point that they never have been released for PS3. And importing for older consoles is annoying, expensive and has incredibly bad availability.
I have played this and I like the game, the battles and the level is higher than I was expecting, but the GREAT failure on this game is the art style, the characters look so childish like the ones of Code Lyoko. My position about Ryan Graff has not changed, he tried to develop a Vandal Hearts game, but it was a failure. I believe that Westerns developers are not the right people to develop this kind of games.
@Rhodoknightmon tons of western developers make great tactic rpgs, I think the problem is not that, it´s just... as you said, the desing in Code Lyoko remains all over teh series so its fans know what to expect, and they should do the same with Vandal Hearts, trying to make it look like a Vandal Hearts instead of trying to "westernize" the game. There are tons of western manga artist who could have worked on better and more "Vandal Hearts-ish" designs than those, me included.

This game makes a mockery of the original. Graphics may be prettier but the art style bugs me a lot. I wish they had stuck with the original people who drew the original characters so they had it drawn in their style, but with the same quality of graphics in the newer games. . .yeah.

I think it's pretty decent. I'm 15 hours in and I'm impressed with the story and dialogue. It's no FFT or Disgaea but it's solid and the customization is fairly deep. The only thing I don't like is the menu system. It's cumbersome and a little convoluted. But I'm enjoying and for $15 I really can't complain.
They're busy making dlc vandal hearts sequels yet legend of dragoon still isn't even on the ps1 classics? I don't know why sony is so stubborn in denying that LOD was a great game. We need another LOD not shitty mix between freerealms and vandal hearts.

Sony is quite proud of LOD but it´s not up to Sony itself if there is a sequel or not, not even up to the company which first developed it.

I don't really care about a sequel. What I want more than anything would be a next gen remake with updated graphics, voice acting, revamped battle system, and maybe a new secret boss or something. Admitingly, you're right about 2. But I have 1, and I'm about to finish the game on a no-death run. Assuming that I never played the game and managing to stumble on this is foolish.
Not only that, but you provided no reason why the game is bad beyond the people making it, and you didn't even comment on the games these specific guys made when it's quite clear that they not only know what they're doing, but STILL are making great games.
Not only that, but even bad developers can bring great games. Remember Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks? The game had EVERYTHING going against it. It's part of the mythologies series, and both games were fairly bad, the two characters it focuses on are both very generic, and the developers of the game are the same people responsible for the Backyard Wrestling series.
Despite all that though, it manages to be a great game and is easily one of the shining moments of the MK series.

I just bought it today. It kind of blows. I stopped playing after the first fight because the characters were just so damn annoying and unbelievable. From what i've observed so far, the game just feels half-assed.
No Konami logo + "Westeners" + Gay Code Lyoko look alikes + No class (Uniform) changing = Epic Fails.
Don't see Baldur's Gate anyware maybe the shadows, don't know??

Uhh No. Graphics may not be the 'Be all end all' And Windwaker was good but the graphics helped convey feeling in the game. Ill admit that I'm judging the book by the cover here but it looks like they changed the look to make it more attractive to those just coming into the series rather then the older fans. while I will reserve total judgment for those '10 to 12 hours of gameplay' it is a very large let down for those who have been waiting since they beat VHII.
Protip: Vandal Hearts Two was awesome. Only thing missing was the fountains of blood. Plot was great Graphics where enjoyable character customization was Interesting and the characters were effective and believable within the fantasy setting.

I don't know when I got mine. It was a birthday present when I was like 10 or something. But I hadn't known about VHII until I saw it in the middle of a store and bought it.
Yeah VH2 was not the sequel we were waiting for, I do think its OKAY but it failed to be as good as VH1. And they definitely need to make a true VH3, for a plot they need to make a storyline about what ASH LAMBERT did after he came back from the time warp and maybe tell what he did DURING his time in that other dimention. So many things they could do with his legendary character.
They should make a sequel where Ash is travelling through different dimensions settling scores, where is joined by different forces for each chapter of the game.
This prequel looks like it's paying lipservice to VH1 and little else. Could the plot be any more clichéd? Young orphan serves a church during a civil war. No doubt the church will secretly be evil and his loyalties divided etc etc.

I think this is supposed to be a prequel to the first. I've had a little bit of hands on experience with it, and I can honestly say that I thoroughly enjoyed the gameplay and the story. It doesn't quite match up to VH 1, but it completely tramples VH 2. Any fan of strategy RPG's should get this game. Being a Vandal fan is just an added perk.
Well, it looks a bit odd, but the UI is a lot like the previous VH games. VH 1 was top-notch, best gan ever. VH 2 was a bit weird with the way combat was performed with dual movements and such. I really hope this game will be as good as I would hope for it to be.
This game looks pretty interesting, I wasnt a fan of VH2, I tried my best but the style of the characters, the battle system, it all annoyed to a point I couldnt even play. VH1 was definatly the best so far.
This game does look like an improvment from VH2 where you know you can move and swing and go into a map the first time, choose where to swing only to have the monster walk around, attack, and you swing at nothing but air.

#1 - The original was made almost 15 years ago.
#2 - Try researching the character designers and tell me how much you find.
#3 - This was produced by an American developer. The original was produced by Konami Japan.
That's not to say they could have chosen better art direction, but to have the original designers would be some stretch.

oh jeez... what did they do to vandal hearts? this looks horrible... Vandal Hearts is about brutal gritty tactical combat with a deep storyline, not this cartoon network crap aimed at the casuals.

OMG!!! What is Konami thinking about making this fistfull of Crap?? VH1 and VH2 fans will be dissappointed with this crappy title. Please if you had played VH1 and VH2, this game will make you cry. They didn't make a game, they only downgrade VH saga to a childish game that even a kid will not play. It's so sad to see how low has Konami fall. Sorry Ryan Graff but your version of Vandal Hearts is only a VERY expensive fistfull of CRAP.

I just bought it today. It kind of blows. I stopped playing after the first fight because the characters were just so damn annoying and unbelievable. From what i've observed so far, the game just feels half-assed.

No Konami logo + "Westeners" + Gay Code Lyoko look alikes + No class (Uniform) changing = Epic Fails.
Don't see Baldur's Gate anyware maybe the shadows, don't know??
10-20 Hrs playing this might be torture and answers why not more...
Don't see any good effort made on this game + westerners will get bad rep please make this better I bet VH fans will wait and appreciate a more adult oriented game than this teletubies crap...

Uhh No. Graphics may not be the 'Be all end all' And Windwaker was good but the graphics helped convey feeling in the game. Ill admit that I'm judging the book by the cover here but it looks like they changed the look to make it more attractive to those just coming into the series rather then the older fans. while I will reserve total judgment for those '10 to 12 hours of gameplay' it is a very large let down for those who have been waiting since they beat VHII.

Protip: Vandal Hearts Two was awesome. Only thing missing was the fountains of blood. Plot was great Graphics where enjoyable character customization was Interesting and the characters were effective and believable within the fantasy setting.

No. It wasn't awesome. As a stand alone game it was "all right" at best. As a sequel to Vandal Hearts it was a complete pile of goat shit.
Trust me. I played the first Vandal Hearts when it was released -- not after Vandal Hearts 2 came out, like most of you.

I disagree. Like I said all it was lacking was the blood fountain effect.
I don't know when I got mine. It was a birthday present when I was like 10 or something. But I hadn't known about VHII until I saw it in the middle of a store and bought it.

Yeah VH2 was not the sequel we were waiting for, I do think its OKAY but it failed to be as good as VH1. And they definitely need to make a true VH3, for a plot they need to make a storyline about what ASH LAMBERT did after he came back from the time warp and maybe tell what he did DURING his time in that other dimention. So many things they could do with his legendary character.

They should make a sequel where Ash is travelling through different dimensions settling scores, where is joined by different forces for each chapter of the game.
This prequel looks like it's paying lipservice to VH1 and little else. Could the plot be any more clichéd? Young orphan serves a church during a civil war. No doubt the church will secretly be evil and his loyalties divided etc etc.

I think this is supposed to be a prequel to the first. I've had a little bit of hands on experience with it, and I can honestly say that I thoroughly enjoyed the gameplay and the story. It doesn't quite match up to VH 1, but it completely tramples VH 2. Any fan of strategy RPG's should get this game. Being a Vandal fan is just an added perk.

Well, it looks a bit odd, but the UI is a lot like the previous VH games. VH 1 was top-notch, best gan ever. VH 2 was a bit weird with the way combat was performed with dual movements and such. I really hope this game will be as good as I would hope for it to be.

This game looks pretty interesting, I wasnt a fan of VH2, I tried my best but the style of the characters, the battle system, it all annoyed to a point I couldnt even play. VH1 was definatly the best so far.
This game does look like an improvment from VH2 where you know you can move and swing and go into a map the first time, choose where to swing only to have the monster walk around, attack, and you swing at nothing but air.

"western developers". herein lies the problem. by adapting the series to appeal to a wider audience they've managed to piss the art direction and novelty of the original up the wall.
yeah, dull 3D polygonal sprites and "fun" large heads are just what the series needed for a reboot. bound to please all those hardcore VH fans who are the only fuckers ever likely to buy this barrel of shit.

I don´t think so, this game takes part about 15 years before the first Vandal Hearts..
But I wouldn´t mind seeying Ash´s father Aldor, Arris the Sage, a younger Clive, Doland and Magnus and the others...
