People have to understand that Maynard has many spiritual as well as emotional ties to his songs. That's one reason why he performs in a dark corner in every concert; he's trying to capture the moment and to literally get lost into the song, he needs to be alone and in a place of his liking to do this. Which is why he performs in a dark corner, where basically no one can see him. And when he messes up like that, he breaks that spiritual/emotional tie to the song and it sets him off.

@Zee96969696 When bands go on tour, its generally normal for the singer to not sound perfect, as they're doing a ton of singing. For example, try screaming for just 10 minutes, you're gonna lose your voice for a couple days. Now realize they sing for hours and hours every other day.

I think it's cool that Maynard let the band play out instrumental even when he came back on stage and didn't start singing again. He understood he needed to relinquish the song to them since they took it over and it wasn't his place to re-enter. TOOL is a primordial energy source that is unmatched.

The rest of the band continued the song and went onto the next and towards the end maynard finally came back. It was disappointing that it happened, but it was better than the whole band walking off stage and the show ending. True professionals.

@gilllie666 maynard himself has said multiple times that singing is not his main outlet nor his main pursuit. that his voice is essentially going and he wants to eventually focus on other things. much of the APC catalog is well out of his range as it was written 10+ years ago and was really pushing his vocal abilities at that time. he's human, try a bottle of his wine and tell me he wasn't born for that as opposed to singing :D
