clark gillies was old when he played for the sabres , his teamates shoud never let that happen . that would be like wayne cashmen fighting at the end of his career , never happened because of the mighty mite stan jonathan , the best policeman , goon , enforcer whatever you want to call it , the bruins ever had ,
fighting... the only way to make an incredibly boring sport palpable to the masses. ... why does it yield a multi-game suspension in every sport but this floundering game?... I predict NHL contraction within 5 years. ... This league is dying rapidly.
Yeah, that's about the kind of pre-pubescent response one would expect from a hockey meat head... Can tell you're a smart one. Noted that you can't answer the question. It's a beautiful game, if you just eliminate the physical assaults every night that savages like you crave.
Go have a beer Derek, lol. If you watch the fight, objectively, both of them land one or two punches, and that was it. Gillies was handicapped by the weight of having four Stanley Cup rings on his hand, lol. How many do you have Derek?
I've seen Craig Berube TKO Marty Mcsorley, Jay Miller clobber Craig Berube, Darin Kimble TKO Troy crowder. Stu Grimson Knock down Dave Brown, Then watched Brown break Grimsons cheekbone. I saw Todd Ewen TKO Bob Probert, Bob Mcgill Deck Joe Kocur,Painfully watched Mario Roberge destroy Darin Kimble. Your right. Everybody loses once in a while no matter how tough you are.
Probie was the man. As long as the refs let the fights go on Probie was un beatable. Todd ewing knock him down once and Probert beat his ass later that game and the next 3 times they fought. I give credit to the ones that wouldn't try to hug and wrestle but would actually stand back and exchange blow for blow with Probert although there were very few and they paid for it.
Byers would have gave B.Probert a war.I would wonder how he would have done against D.Brown.I grew up watching the Bruins but I think D.Brown was easily in the top ten of all time.
By the way, jackass, Gillies was only 31 in this fight! It's from the 1984-85 season, and he is far from over the hill at 31. The new fighters were just bigger than the one's he was used to fighting back when he was 25.
by the way jackass gillies played for the islanders in 84-85 he was not claimed by buffalo in the waiver draft until 1986. if your going to talk shit and call names at least have your facts correct dumbass.
lmao I hope so because 10 years earlier, Byers was only 11 years old you moron! This is a 21 year old fighting a 31 year old...both 5 years from their prime. (most NHL enforcers claim 25-27 to be their prime fighting years)
boston4877 - your WRONG! this is Gilles last season (1988) hes 34 and at the end of career and he still did well against a prime Byers! (fought 3X) Byers was ok but J Miller fought all the #1 heavies for the B's. - Gilles is a ALL TIME fighter/player and was a better player + fighter than Byers. Either way i like ALL TUFF guys, i dont care i hate p*ssy soft players, long live tuff hockey
I looked up the date of the game, and it was March 6th 1988. Gillies was 33, and Lyndon just turned 24 (his birthday was Feb 29th less than a week before the game). Byers also just had a cast removed the day of the game and wasn't supposed to fight for at least 2 weeks. Yes, Gillies was 10 times the Player Byers was, but Byers beat some of the best fighters of all time. Watch him DESTROY Craig Berube.
you guys jaw at each other so much why don't yo just blow each other and get it over with. you guys must have record settting beer bellies. Fucking losers.

Gillies started strong but was no match for Byers' over and under and superior stamina. Another Byers beat down.

Has to be 86-87 or 87-88; Gillies was still w/ the Islanders in 84-85, so Byers is at least ten years younger. Good showing by Lyndon.
