nope split gas line and yes i had a zex kit in it but thats what happens when you rebuild the moter and not get new gas lines it fucks shit up my car i know
Dude wow man... Learn how to fix your car or drive it. Learn German engines... you don't just slapp parts on the fucking car.. I have a GTi and you make everybody with one look bad. Sad shit bro.....
I noticed that the flames started around the area of the turbo. An oil line may have deloped a leak, sprayed on the the turbine housing (exaust side, temps reach close to 1500' F) and caused the flare up.
My friends 1994 Toyota Supra fared the same fate.
And the moral of this story is - always have an extinguisher in your high perfomance car. That and don't use ducktape to fix your hoses. Seriously though, I feel for your loss man.
Dude that sucks soooo bad man, i jsut put some headers on my rabbit and I looked down there and i could see sparks where the tip of the headers (I havent yet hooked up exhaust) are touching the heat gaurd like theres some sort of electricity going through it or something but i cant figure that out since the engine is grounded to the whole rest of the truck anyway...
First of all, if it were for insurance, the last thing you want is video proof and modifications. Also, no it is not rice. It was a leak in the oil line with the big turbo setup he had that caused the fire.
Pfft blatant insurance job considering i don't know how the hell you managed to do that. Plus, why didn't you try and put the base of the fire out, ie; in the engine bay instead of being dumb asses and trying to put out the flames inside the car...if you put them out in the engine bay you could have saved it and thats why i said insurance job.
you guys are fucking idiots, they make MK3 gtis 1.8t (4cyl) and VR6 (6cyl) so dont say its a 4 cylinder just like ALL the other non-turbo GTIs and yes you can just get the 1.8
I can't really tell what originally caused the fire... may have been the wiring harness or could've been the bigass pipe for the turbo got too hot and started a fire. Either way it sucks to see a VW go up in flames, but at least those BBS wheels look untouched!
That's stupid! First he has no fire extinguisher in his car (mandatory in most European countries) and second he's recording the bloody thing on a camera for like half an hour inhaling toxic fumes while the thing is full of gas and other flammable liquids! This guy is either dumb or the whole thing was staged...
Did you even watch the video? He uses a fire extinguisher when smoke starts coming into the cabin. And there were two people in the car, if you notice the video starts on the PASSENGER side. Didn't you also catch that they were out of the path of smoke on the grass AWAY from the toxic fumes? You fail.
Man!! Reminds me of the time my friends rare BMW Alpina B28 went up in flames on the highway. It burnt from the front all the way to the back window. Sorry about your loss dude. I feel for ya!
Bummer dude. First thing you should hav edone is taken the possative wire off the battery !! Then Takled the fire. otherwise it just re-ignites. Similar thing happend to my old rover. but I saved it by doing exactly what I said to do. :-)
The only thing that could have made this a good experiance is if at the end when they are filming the charred husk of a car.... a zombie dog that knows karate come jumping out of the car. That would be sweeeet!
Seeing how the car is modified and it seems to be the cause of the fire AND how the vid is on the internet explaining this, i'm sure he'll have fun trying.
That car had a Big Turbo on it, so it was FAR from stock. This is what happens when you mod. I thought the cause was a fuel leak, or oil or something catching fire on the turbo?
damn that sucks my 97' trans am cought on fire too buti kept spiting at it and hitting it with towls and my hands, i burned my hands bad but i saved my car.
The (former?) owner of this car posted about it on VWvortex - IIRC, he said something about the fire starting in the stock wiring harness under the dash.

your right man, when my jetta wagon caught on fire my mind went blank.Tried to do everything i could but in the end i just sat and cried watching the firemen putting it out:(
why the fuck did he leave the doors and windows open.
He could have killed the fire by choking it. It would have atleast slowed it down. leaving the dors wide open for the oxygen is not a spart thing to do. Unless the guy wanted a good video.
Damn, that sucks. Put fuses on your amps people. And battery shut offs, 9/10 times that will prevent an electrical fire. Almost had the same thing happen to my 70 GTO, but I got the battery cable off in time.
Oh! Let me hop in.. They're in front of an apartment complex... just ask to buy a can of pop, shake it up, pour on engine compartment fire..warmer is better. Oh. and the garden hose in the background.. but that is too easy
