I noticed that the flames started around the area of the turbo. An oil line may have deloped a leak, sprayed on the the turbine housing (exaust side, temps reach close to 1500' F) and caused the flare up.

My friends 1994 Toyota Supra fared the same fate.

Dude that sucks soooo bad man, i jsut put some headers on my rabbit and I looked down there and i could see sparks where the tip of the headers (I havent yet hooked up exhaust) are touching the heat gaurd like theres some sort of electricity going through it or something but i cant figure that out since the engine is grounded to the whole rest of the truck anyway...

First of all, if it were for insurance, the last thing you want is video proof and modifications. Also, no it is not rice. It was a leak in the oil line with the big turbo setup he had that caused the fire.

I can't really tell what originally caused the fire... may have been the wiring harness or could've been the bigass pipe for the turbo got too hot and started a fire. Either way it sucks to see a VW go up in flames, but at least those BBS wheels look untouched!

Did you even watch the video? He uses a fire extinguisher when smoke starts coming into the cabin. And there were two people in the car, if you notice the video starts on the PASSENGER side. If you had closed the hood when you realized you couldn't get it out, you might have limited the damage to your car. As a professional firefighter, I can tell you that we've pulled up on plenty of these where the insulation on the underside of the hood has fallen down and smothered what otherwise would have been a fully-involved fire, like this one. And less oxygen is always a good strategy.

The little fire under the hood should have easily been put out with the extinguisher... Why in the hell were they shooting it at the dashboard? Blast the whole thing under the hood onto the initial start-up point of the flames and be done with it. Next time you've got smoke coming out from under your hood and the floorboards, pull-over somewhere with a water hose (like someone's house)! Moron.
