Lots of interesting opinions on JWL AND this song.......my query: Is it true that when he wrote IMAGINE he had a special room set aside where he kept his fur coats at the exact temperature he liked to wear them. This room was temperature controlled & used exclusively for his fur coats only. When I heard this story I was gobsmacked but can anyone verify this.

And that was supposed to be poor n hungry post war Liverpool where sugar n other foodstuffs were rare. I dunno. Lennon's a GENIUS.....I say that in the PRESENT Tense because HIS Music LIVES on and we can listen and interpret his songs in our own way.....BUT it seems to me a lot of ppl here have missed the point completely. This is obviously a humourous "rant" at just about everything in our world.......CONSUMERISM , POLITICS , MODERN ATTITUDES , RELIGION , CAPITALISM , WAR etc..... BUT within the exaggerated delivery something thought provoking comes through which is very powerful.

It's a rant he wrote after watching the born again bob dylan perform 'you gotta seve somebody' on tv. as well as his son Julian always asking him for money to buy cars, It was written around 1978-80 when lennon didn't give a crap about captilism or politics as he was too busy spending heaps of money on property to sit around and do nothing in all day.

It's tragic that John was not a happier camper....esp given the impact he and The Beatles have had on mankind. Before becoming rich and famous he had lost his best friend Stu Sufcliffe to a brain hemorage after losing his mother in a car crash after losing his father to divorce. First he was given the "choice" of living with his mom or dad. So he spent much of his life confused and blamed God. Personally, only JC can get u thru life's worst times with real peace, love, and joy.
