Les recomiendo que escuchen una versión un tanto melancólica de "West End Blues" interpretada por el propio King Oliver junto a Clarence Williams y cantada por Hazel Smith.
Love the photos - which should put an end to the usual "she was so plain as compared to Lena Horne" comments - she was a stunning beauty in her youth - and to me, remained so beautiful all her life - that wonderful face, so full of character. Great version of West End Blues - when she says, "I mean, my man and my best friend, won't be caught in West End no more", you know she means it!
@Somepeople Thanks for your comment. "West End Blues" is an all-time great jazz standard, but we seldom hear the lyrics. Ethel Waters deserves more recognition for her contribution to jazz and blues.
From left to right: Ethel Waters as Petunia, Eddie "Rochester" Anderson of Jack Benny fame as Little Joe and Lena Horne who co-starred as the temptress Georgia Brown from the film Cabin in the Sky.
Muchas gracias por compartirlo.

Beautiful! BTW she was active on Broadway in the mid-1930s - eg "At Home Abroad", with Beatrice Lillie and Eleanor Powell.

Do you know who that beauty to the right is between 0:58 and 1:04 ? She was also to be seen on Fats Wallers Honey Suckle Rose.
