  • OK... she said "Thank You" but, the English version said "I Love You" hmm?

  • @hawjsta the english version is not 100% the translation fom the japanese one.. but i think, i love you is much more beatiful :)

  • Hm, gonna go play FF10 now.

  • I LOVE THIS FREAKING ENDING AND I LOVE FF X SOOOO MUCH :DDD But why does Yuna say thank you instead of I love you. I love you fits better in my opinion o.o

  • Isn't it interesting Tidus disappears differently than Auron.

  • @BurningNeons because Tidus was ''Dream of Faith'' and Auron was ''Unsent'' thats why theydissapeared differently .

  • omg I can't wait till they remake dis game! xD I want to buy it! It was one of my fav. childhood games!

  • best ff ending but the story line will never beat FF 7

  • And again, to be continued in X-2...

  • I always love this ending. IT's sad, but so beautiful. I love it!

  • la version en ingles dice i love you, arigato es gracias o thanks en ingles, eso significa que hay cosas que se adaptan

  • :'(

  • Comment removed

  • the moment Yuna say thank you to Tidus is sad. Look all the emotions they have for each other, they both know that they won't be together

  • i havent played X-2 yet but I wanna see the endings for X-2 and see how it continues

but overall, I am still satisfied with this ending

It's like the amber spyglass ending

  • well, in Japanese she did say "arigatou" but that "arigatou" really means "I love you" not "thank you". for a japanese writter instead of using "aishiteru" "aishitemasu" or "suki desu" kinda ruins the mood(? can't think of a right term to used, sorry) so instead they used "Arigatou" that actually literally means "Thank You" but at the same time it also means "I Love You".

its just that our beloved english producers used "I love you" instead to make make it more a romantically sad ending.

  • Hmm, not really. Semantic field is really useful when it comes to Japanese, but in cases like this one it's not necessary to over-analyze what isn't there. What she says is a sincere "thank you". Love is not involved in any way as she actually refers to something entirely different than just her personal feelings.

But if you don't believe me, try building a Japanese corpus and analyze all the instances where "ありがとう" is involved. You'll find out it's never related to matters of love.

  • @geminimewtwo i disagree. i don't know japanese, but i do understand the differences between high and low-context cultures. japanese is definitely high context, so IMO i think she was really saying "i love you," just not verbally.

  • @geminimewtwo I'm with lynnahara on this one. If you look at Tidus' suprise at her "thank you," which is followed by his embrace, it seems obvious that there is an undertone of "I love you." While she is obviously thanking him for his sacrifice, you have to read into the body language of the moment. Over-analyzing can have you miss the point, but so can oversimplifying.

  • @sssplitpersonality: Japanese people very rarely say I love you, and even less frequently they have a way to express that though languages of any kind. So nope, body language doesn't really help in this case. Given the cultural gap, "I love you" is still incredibly far from what we have in this scene.

  • Wth she says thanks. I would have said I love you.

  • Hmm thats odd she doesnt say she loves him in the japanese one she says thanks o.O

  • 'Kay, I kinda forgot the story and forgive me for being a nub, but is that Seymour standing next to Auron near the end?

  • No, that's Yuna's father.

  • @IbanezRG7321 braska, yuna's father

  • Such a sad ending. T.T I miss Tidus a lot! Thank god he's able to come back in X-2 [spoiler there XD]

  • Hey, are you from Sweden? :P

You're name sounds kinda Swedish, and I was wondering because I'm a Swede myself. :D

  • Well it could be Dutch too.. and I also heard it in Germany xD Good luck =P

  • if the english vas were absoultly terrible then it would be easy for me to chosse between which two r better but its still kinda hard.

  • Ichigo!!!!!!!!!!! (aka Tidus in Jap. version)

  • I love this ending, but it kinda made me mad (for some odd reason) that in the enlgish version, Yuna says, "I love you," and not "Thank-you" like the japanese version... that little change in words twists the entire resolution of the story, or so I think.....:/

  • Not entirely. Even in English you can tell the two love each other. It's easy in their words and reactions. And even more shown in FFX-2 when they reunite and how he wants her back. She's meaning the same feelings to Tidus.

  • I love this ending

It makes you cry like mad!

    Especially when Yuna says Thankyou..

  • You can really see the difficulties SquareEnix had when shifting the game from japanese to english. Now that I see this, I really wish they'd release a version with english subs and japanese voice acting.

  • me too

  • I'm not sure if it would be more enjoyable if it were all in Japanese. Perhaps if they got better voice actors...?

  • its a game!

  • Yeah, so what?

A book with fictional characters can make you cry like mad; a video game with fictional characters AND ANIMATED SCENES can make you cry like mad even more!

  • haha I know a lot of people cried when Aeris died in FFVII

  • Forget about Aeris now, watch this ending instead. :D

  • wasn't she suppose to say i love you instead of thank you???

  • anybody need trnslations? i can catch most of it

  • she said thankyou at the japanese version that was weird

  • best FF ending

  • @pinoypr1d3 best FF Game!

  • urm............is final Fantasy X and X2 a movie or game....anyways its si sad....

  • a game

  • I cried when I beat the game. The ending is SO sad.

  • ichigo from bleach does tiduses jap voice

  • Nah, I love you would sound better. Just look at tidus's reaction afterward. Why would you make that expression when someone says thank you. You don't make a shocking face when someone says thank you to you. They changed the line for a reason.

  • "Thank you." can affect people in different ways. Think about it. Tidus knew Yuna would die, and because he was in the pilgrimage, Yuna lived and Sin was defeated permanently. Yuna then thanks him, because he could've changed Yuna's life.

  • So much better in Japanese..... Saying thank you is actually better than I love you in this case. Because of him she didn't fall in that pointless cycle of unnecessary death. Thank you is so much more suitable.

  • this is so sad, Yuna says thank you to Tidus because he wuz always there for her wen she needed him, he encouraged her, helped her, and always rescued her... this is so sad but it's one of the best games ever!

  • This would be 3 times more serious w/o the sad music -.- lol

  • OMG!!the guy voice acting for tidus is the same person who does ichigo in bleach!!!

  • omg ure right man lol ive played this game lont time ago xD i want to play the japonese version now!

  • kore wa, moto kanashimi daiyo ne?

  • FFXは名作、5年前かな、最後にしたの。

  • the best game! never used in to my games until my brother got just over 4years ago i was only 11 but boi! did luv it!!!

  • 2:20 that moment made me cry

  • people need to understand.......there's sentimental value in yuna saying "thank you". shes thanking tidus for encouraging her, supporting her, giving her hope, and showing her love.

and btw, "arigato" is NOT another way of saying "i love you". thank you is all it means.

  • Japanese rarely say 愛してる (I love you) to one another, even if they do truly love each other. It's different from the West, where people drop the word casually... i.e. You do a favor for someone, and they respond with "OMG!!! I love you!!!" Or telling your parents that you love them, "Mom/Dad, I love you..." Never happens in Japan. Even between lovers, the word is rarely (dare I say never) said... probably because it can be understood without saying it verbally (以心伝心)

  • Pretty "standard" in far east --- it feels very odd (and out of place) to hear someone actually say "I love you." Such love expression is always (yes, it is ALWAYS) carried out in an indirect way.

It's a culture shock in both ways (East / West), for anyone new to such.

  • >probably because it can be understood

    > without saying it

    You'd think so.

  • @JT0420 What can you do? People don't understand 'love'.

  • @JT0420 isnt there a more casual way to say it tho? its was like... suki... something... lol

  • @JT0420 i know this is too late to be replying on youy comments( u probably might be dead until now :P) but wat u mentioned is a fact... i would had given u lots of thumbs up even if it makes my hand go numb... unfortunately ..... u know

  • @FrogMast3r

why would i probably be dead?

  • @JT0420 joke man. sheesh haha

  • @JT0420 that was beautifully put :)

  • Sad..........

  • Ya it was just a shock cuz ive only seen the english one where she says i love you, i know she dose in either version.

  • oh my...did she just say thank you?

  • Yeah, but if you think about it, she really meant I love you........I least I think she did.

  • No, japanese women say that alot on animes, like on bleach rukia says arigato alot, and they always tell her not tsay thank you, because she has no reason to thank them. Yuna was thanking Tidus for saving her from the final summoning, for keeping her company and getting her through the tough times. Arigato

  • But yeah, i was shocked. I was like "wait.. Did she just say arigato? It cant be!" *rewinds* "arigato" "OH MY GOD!!"

  • I love the japanese version so much better

  • the english version is better and more romantic

  • The translation from japanese to german is good but the english transation is often false..

  • there's a fucking mistake between the english and the japanese version!the scene at 0:41 shows ALL the aeons AROUND sin, and on the english version there's no such a thing, it only shows sin, alone!shit...

  • theres no mistakes, in my german version (english vioce)= can i see all aeons u know^^ but got u all aeons can u see all aeons around [sin]

  • Can someone tell me what Tidus and Yuna really says?

Why does she says arigatou, and not aishiteru?

  • The dubs are mostly correct on the translations but they replaced "Thank you." with "I love you." (well, that's the only difference I see) If you read the comment by cynicalseymour, you'll know. It's more symbolic to say "Arigatou" in the Japanese version. But it's better to say "I love you" in the dubs because of the English audience... something like that(?).

  • thats not why they changed thank you to i love you. They did it for the lip syncing. Arigato has 4 sylliables. Thank you only has two.. I love you is closer and they could fit it in, plus it would make sense.

  • The first time I watched this it made me cry...

  • Of course Yuna sounds young in the Japanese version, Japanese voices are a lot softer than American AND Yuna is only 17 in this game.

  • ONLY 17??!

  • LMAO i love how there's a fanfare right before tidus hugs yuna hehehe! so hilarious XD

  • hey we all kno tidus was crying..ther acting in japanese is way better

  • tidus's voice is waayy beter than english! he sounds like a lil annoying kid! and..WTF in enhglish yuna says i love you

but in japanese she says " THank you"

why thank you? like i love you iz waay better and suspensful... hmmmm

  • I think that they found it more suitable for Yuna's character to say "Thank you". :P

  • Check out the comment by cynicalseymour and you'll know why. I think that the Japanese put more thought into it than the dubs. But I still like both versions... I just tend to lean more towards originals. *shrugs*

  • im japanese and italian

  • hahahaha im not white :]

    im asian mkay?

    not even joking

but i love asian languages, i speak one

if you're tired of hearing it especially on the INTERNET....then don't comment :] mkay?

it'll just piss a lot of ppl off and start an unesseccary quarrel.

but hey, i didn't mean they are annoying in general, just the choice of VA

    :p

  • hmph, i really liked the english VA better. it fit yuna better, the jap. version made her sound annoying.

but i loved it when she said "i love you" cos think about it, that was prob. the last time she would of seen him, and they loved each other, and a shame they didn't show it a bit more. but it was so heartbreaking :[

    <3333

  • i hate how white people always say that asian languages are "annoying". I'm so sick of hearing that at work, at restaurants, at school, and of course on the internet.

  • LOL at wakka in the background 1:36-1:38 then it gets touching after that :(

  • In the original version, Wakka's character is supposed to be a raging idiot who is all muscle and no brain. It's a funny concept. But in the English versions they turned him into a more intellegent person.

  • Apart from how their voices sound, I think Japenese voice actors tend to perform a lot better than their English counterparts.

  • Man, the part when he put his arms around her..Heartbreaking. It was like he couldn't control his feelings anymore, and you notice, (besides the scene in the spring) this is the first time he has openly shown his feelings(although everyone damn well knew) to her. He embraced her as Tidus, Not as her guardian... *cries in corner*

  • I love rikkus voice its so sweet

  • I can't believe how many of you guys didn't get the symbolism of why Yuna said arigato. When Braska stood infront of Yunalesca's doorway, instead of expressing his true feelings, he said "arigato" to Jecht and Auron and went off to die because summoners are not supposed to show attachment to the real world. The ending was symbolic that Yuna had become the grand summoner like Braska.

  • Also, does anyone else think Tidus' Japanese voice sounds too old for him and Yuna's too young for her?

  • Hmm.. I preferred their Japanese voices.. Asian girls' voices tend to be higher, so...

I thought Tidus's fit him well, like a Japanese schoolboy or something XP

In the English version when Yuna talked sometimes I thought it just sounded kind of lame.. like, her voice would be all airy, and I would get the hint that it was forced, so it sounded.. awkward..

  • Naw, I loved Yuna's English voice, I didn't think it was forced at all. But that's just me

  • Yuna's voice sounds awkward even in Japanese in my opinion.

I've heard some people think that the tone of voice changes when we speak in Japanese or in English.

Japanese girls(women) generally try to speak softer

and higher than in natural tone that they have.

I grew up in Japan and I think that way.

  • You're right, it sounds too unnatural.

  • i cried when i played this The first time i cried for 2 hours when i saw this ending i was wondering will Tidus be back for yuna

  • The japanese version is so much better (voices).

Allthough I can't imagine Wakka with any other voice. His is perfect in american.

  • i like the english voices better.

and i like it better when yuna said 'i love you'. cause it sounds more convincing to make Tidus stay with her. 'thank you' sounds more like she's prepared to say goodbye and giving up. and plus, yuna has said 'thank you' many times before.

  • i dont know, IMO like other people, it seems out of character for yuna to say something like 'i love you'... although my sister said she thought it made more sense.. well, i guess it's just a matter of opinion...

if america hadn't changed the ending we wouldnt have to debate this @@"

  • Yeah, in my opinion it makes more sense for Yuna to say "thank you" than "I love you"...it just seemed a little out of character for Yuna to say "I love you" but that's just me...

Though it doesn't matter...it's obvious that Yuna likes Tidus! :)

Though in my opinion the Japanese version of the ending is way better...then again America translated the game and the originals are always better. :-)

  • Ugh I hate the Japanese voices. Tidus' voice sounds too old and Yuna's too young. At least in the English version they fit better.

  • it makes more sense if yuna would say i love you

as someone said in another comment she doesnt say that kind of thing

    which is excactly the point

she doesnt say that to anyone else

    geddit??

such a good ending.. the best

  • so sad..

  • i cryed T_T whend tidus throw himself overboard ^^

  • at least tidus gets the ffx-2. but Aerith remains dead. i guess the story is best in those "firsts" ffvii is the first that uses 3d graphics, and ffx is the first that is produced for playstation 2 as well as using voice characters. but i personally think that the movie advent children uses better voices than ffx.

  • well ffX wasmore populer so you can't expect more...

  • japanese voices show more expression than english

  • i love this version a lot better.i prefer jap version cuz their VA are superb (Tidus VA= Ichigo in Bleach <3!). its more dramatic and emotional. I dun like Yuna n Tidus eng VA, esp when Tidus laugh -_-" nyway...pretty sad ending though T_T

  • That ending gets me every time, hits me right in guts! I love the way, at the end of all that sorrow you get that high five, and it works so much better in Japanese (not just because there mouths actually match what there saying, but because Tidus has a decent voice actor unlike the English one where you just want to strangle him)

  • yeah... i like the "thank you" version better than "i love you" but we all know that yuna meant " i love you" when she said " thank you"

  • yeah i think that yuna saying "thank you" is more appropriate than saying "i love you" in the english version. but i think that the enlish people wanted to make it look less dubbed. :P and americans are way too dramatic!!! they live off that shit!!! no wonder they changed it to "i love you"!

  • lol at the sounds Wakka is making.

  • "I love you" doesn't make sense... Yuna is not that type of person to say it. stupid english people don't realize that... "thank you" is perfect. He saved her from death, helped her get through this journey and held her when she was alone. "thank you" in this scene is much more sweet than "I love you"

  • yea japanese sounds more original^^

  • IMO the original is better than the english version. it's more than what they say. it's HOW they say it. the original voice actors sound better and more relaxed. i found english yuna to sound strange when she said "i love you".

  • well tidus's actions and words don't match nearly as well in the eng version, and yuna's voice is also a little unnatural. On the other hand, "thank you" is FAR inferior to "I love you" for last words. Come on...it's not only ambiguous, it's also not nearly as emotional.

  • this scene always made me cry *sheds a little tear* well I actually have the English version of FFX

  • hmm..she says thabk you...that's alot differnt from I love you...Wow!! I thought I love you said more...but it doesnt matter what she says..She still gets her point across...If only Tidus was real..(in x)

  • maybe it'd make more senese if had played the game >_<

  • I love this ending, but what does she mean when she says ''Thank you''?

  • Yeah its true what XxGhaleonxXX said . And uhh I played X-2 (Not ten-two that sounds gay)and its not as good as X i like X better for some reason.. Well i dunno why Tidus comes back but I think the other guy who looks like him is the guy who lived before him. Tidus was a dream that had became real.. Maybe they (fayth/aeons) dreamt of that person which is the guy who looks like tidus. and the other girl who is like yuna or w/e is probably the same..

  • do u realise tat nobody in the game have ever said tidus's name b4...

  • Because you can rename him in the begining of the game. It wouldn't make sense if they said "Tidus," but you named him "Frank."

  • its cause you can name tidus something different...and they didnt want to take that away by saying his anem when it could be Bob...

  • It's coz he's the main character and you can change his name, so if you put a different name, the game can process it....think of it, Yuna saying "Lyshulin, I love you" :D

  • OH MAN!!!HAHAHA, yeah i know. they should just let tidus's name be tidus, cuz i dunno how to pronounce it...

  • I think it is pronounced "Taidus" ^^

  • well duh, it's because you get to choose what his name is at the beginning

  • Hey she DOES say thank you, somebody said she did, I didnt believe it...wow. Thats so much different than I love you...emotional.

  • Japanese version is better than english version. Thank you is better than I love you u.u. And the way her voice actor says it makes me cry XD. In english version "i love you" ruined the whole thing.

  • T.T this makes me cry every time (i've seen it...three times, including this one)! it's so sad and beautiful! now i wanna watch yuna's speech.....

  • what makes me upset is that.. yuna says."Thank you" in the japanese version.. but in the english version she says "I love you"... GAH! that made me upset. lol

  • Haha SAME HERE! It pissed me off thinking that there was another way of saying i love you in japanese but when i listen closely shes really saying I love you.

  • i have one question tho....wat happened to tidus?? did he disappear in X and awaken in X-2?

  • he died in X because he was a part of Sin, just a dream made up by the Fayths, Sin diseappeared, so he also did....he gets back in the good and perfect ending of the X-2 'coz the fayths thought that it was the good thing to do, and because Yuna never forgot about him, so he cease to be just a faded dream and became real.

  • yeah...I think I prefer the Jap version a little better b/c then the characters don't sound all that weird....pretty good video....

  • Man, I swear I played through the whole game just for that "high five" scene. Pure win!

  • that was so cute i loved it!!!!!

  • To be honest i beat both ways and i think this one is better than perfect.....

  • Is it sad that I wanted to watch this bcos its japanese? cos ive already seen the english version about 4 times, ahh well im a FINAL FANTASY NERD!

  • No such thing as a Final Fantasy nerd man...no such thing

  • Very nice, but you forgot the part with Tidus waking up underwater. That plays an important part, especially if you get the good ending in the sequel
