Hi there, I'm off to Gulmarg in a couple of weeks and hear the snow's not so great so might want to catch a couple of trout if I can, can you fill me in on some details I might need? Do I need a permit and do I have to only use flys etc? I have a telescopic spinning rod but nothing major, could you let me know what the deal is?.
basic regulations are: Brown trout fishing is confined mainly to the streams of Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh in the northwestern Himalayas. As per fishing regulations, `dry and wet' fly spinning, artificial and natural worms, etc. are the allowed baits for brown trout fishing. The artificial spinning bait, however, has been banned in Kashmir waters since 1970
Yes you are correct only artificial flies are permitted in Kashmir, hence I was indeed fly fishing. However the locals there don't seem to follow these rules...I suppose they have been fishing like this for generations. Also no need for such abusive language, it just makes you look no better than the less knowledgeable locals. If you really still feel so strongly about it then go out there and educating them, this will have a much more positive outcome than calling other people stupid names.
