"Addiction" is the right word. The objects of our addiction are those things we believe we cannot do without, & that we will go to extraordinary lengths to possess. So it is, in our culture, with surplus. If we are power-hungry, we experience a driving need to control very much, even if we already have more than is needed. The less power-driven may still feel a need to pursue surplus, out of a sense of fear that one day there may not be enough. May we strive for and attain lives of balance.
