  • keep the chain parallel to the floor.

  • You guys are all so heavy haha :P im 15 and only like 133lbs lol

  • on some strokes you open your back a little early... just make sure you finish the leg drive before engaging your back and arms

  • try keeping your hands in straight lines because you are dropping your hands too much at the catch but apart from that great :D

  • I'm looking to buy the concept 2 (maybe a different one), does anyone know how loud it is, because ill most likely be using it in the morning and i don't want to disturb my family.

  • 20 seconds better than me. :p

  • i have only been erging for 3 days and my 500m was at 1:32:00

  • keep your back straight you arch is as a result of dropping your hands as you retract! but none the less well done! concept rowers are the bomb! I have the latest one and never gone wrong! buy one and race online... more incentive to stay fit

  • you drop ur hands :P 1:31 is pretty good i did 1:32.1 for 1 kin and then 1:39.9 for a 3 min peice :P but yea most noticible is ur hands drop like mad at the catch

  • noone's talking about people :P

  • hey, rock over from the hips abit more before you come up the slide your elbows should be over your knees before they start to bend. awesome time! 1.31 very impressive. im 14 i can only get 1.40 at my best. but honestly try an half an hour erg there the real test try beating my score of 7345 meters. 500m isnt really going to improve your rowing.

  • 1:40 for one stroke? i doubt you can do 1:40 for 500m at 14.. unless of course you weigh 160pounds.. but then for your weight class you suck..

  • your very neieve i did 1:28.1 for 500m when i was 14 and 163lbs and i could get down to 1:14 for one stroke. My 2k was 6:58, that was my first year, some people are just naturals

  • @AxelPRC if you can get your split down that low for one stroke and you only pull a 6:58 for a 2k then that is some very ineffective rowing... i can only get my split down to 1:23 but i pull a 6:52 2k... and i weigh about the same as you... so instead of worrying about strength try to work on endurance

  • @lifesucks0111 I was only 14. Im 19 now and I did a 6:04 today and I can do 1:16.7 for 500m so yea..... sucks to be you

  • @lifesucks0111 also im naturally quite explosive which is why its like that. I can now get down to 1:07. I do have good endurance I can do 16:16 for 5k and hold 1:43 for 30min at 20spm so for future reference think before you speak

  • @nechiken the first day of practice i pulled a 1:36 on a 500m and i was 14... and i weighed 158....

  • you're dropping your hands at the catch(when you're all the way up the slide). keep your hands light and the handle raised as you slide up, and it should actually help shave off a second or more off your split.

  • Your technique is not bad if you just want to erg, you seem to be getting the power on the legs without any real negative strain on the back. However if you're looking to translate the technique into a boat then pretty much what 'Surfchiki' said, although you would probably be recieving coaching anyway if that was the case.

By the way 2K meters is the real test, or 5K.

  • get your hands down and away at the finish key is quick hands have it done before the body rocks over dont do it during the slide strong finishes but dont pull to hard relax the recovery and slam down the legs on the way back keep your head up so you can breath dont tense up keep it a natural relaxing movement make sure you are getting body reach aswell...

  • Drop your hands if you want, if it feel right for you. You are your best judge - not others who don't know you.

  • Stop rowing and start playing smth.. coz u know.. real athletes row.. the other just play games.. and seem to be playing.. :P

I am just an amature though I've done under 1:20 when I was younger.. now could do some 1:22 stil.. and u know what.. my technique is even worse.. its not only the technique.. stamina and will is what u need.. hmm.. also u need some speed.. raise the pace to 36 at least.. or better 46

  • under 1:20 would put you in the top ten in the world

  • the 1 20 bit is bull shit

  • in the top ten in the world? dream about it.. I think in each country there are at least 5 or 10 people who can do it under 1:20... and how many countries there are you may count yourself.. :P

  • u sed u did it wen u were younger and that u r stil and a'amature', and u want people to believe u wer 1 of the best in the country at the age of 15 or watever?

  • I did it when I was 17. The time was 1:19,8

As a matter of fact I did it last week too and it was 1:21.4.. and I don't really care if you believe or not.. there no point for me to brag of smth that haven't done or did.. Just mentioned it as a fact.. change the topic..

  • balls i bet u cldnt even pull tht

  • why doesnt boldrikas22 just video tape himself doing it in that time that way everyone can be happy.

  • wat a load of crap... technique is just as important on an erg as it is water. This is very true in prevention of back injury. and 1:20?? most people would be lucky to get the split under 1:20 for 5 strokes let alone for to 60 or so strokes of a 500m erg

  • im 14 years old

and my split was 1:32 flat

  • Don't drop your hands at the catch, quicker finishes, keep your heels on the foot strechers, get more reach at the catch, don't rush the slide, don't move your legs until your hands have passed them during the recovery, push off with your legs- don't use arms to pull during the drive, relax your shoulders, you're supposed to keep a 3:1 ratio for Recovery:Drive it helps to get your legs down faster, you have to keep your back straight when leaning forward.

  • hands are dropping way too much at the front. on an ergo, you move in and out on a flat line. In summary, Keep ya bloody hands up!

  • dont drop ur hands at the catch

  • i agree... u shouldnt be able to stand after u do a hard peice like a 500m at 100%. im also gunna have to agree with a faster stroke rate at the start, mayb like 3/4stroke,1/2stroke,3/4stroke,full stroke. & i also dont see the need to drop ur hands so far down when u come up to the catch

ps - dont leave the handle in the holder for long periods of time bc the elastic loses it elastisity and it wont pull the chain back in after the stroke.

  • Good on you! However you sure didn't look tired enough at the finish. I can't stand up when I do five hundreds. Your technique looked like a model for Concept II.

  • you didnt try hard enough because you were able to stand at the end

  • try a racing start and try to get the spm to about 38-42. Other than that everything looks good. Curently i am 19 in the world for 18 and under. my split was 1:28.1.

  • could you explain the reasons for a higher spm?

  • well... it is possible to get a very low split without doing a full ass to feet stroke. The more distance you can get in each stroke the better (of course). But, during any kind of sprint such as the last 500m of a 2k and in a 500m race you want to have a higher stm.

  • more spm
