There's hope, you know. They're making a new series of Avatar, called the Legend of Korra. It'll be set in the Avatar world, but a different avatar, Korra of the Southern Water Tribe. You can find all of the information on it at Avatar wiki.
The protest has known for a long time the casting wasn't going to change. The purpose of fighting racebending right now is to prevent a sequel [with the same actors].
unfortunatly M.Night Shamalan and Hollywood wont change their minds. as critical i it may seem they have already started filming season 2 believe it or Not! so the cast and everything is pretty much set. they said over the next six years (every 2yrs a film will be out) ATLA will be made. i like your idea though and great video! ^^
ffs! i actually dont give a shit where the actors are from (and neither should you cus it doesnt matter shit) as long as they look as the characters do in the anime. Unfortunetly, they picked actors that mostly dont even RESEMBLE the characters. Where the actors are from doesnt mean ANYTHING so stop bitching about their origin and start bitching about their appearance compared to the characters! Even if all actors were asian the movie would still suck if they dont look like the characters.
I am so mad. I'd rather have a book 4 than a stupid live action movie. This is stupid! There's so many loose ends, like, what happened to Zuko's mother? And what about Aang and Katara's future? This is getting me frustrated. Avatar book 4 all the way!
...(cont'd) also be respected in our views and how we feel - I speak directly for my stance as being an Asian-American, and a fan. I am merely practicing my rights to demand my concerns about a series I have come to love.
Besides, this movie is in no way meant to be a replacement for the series. The series IS over though, and some fans need to face the facts. There won't be a fourth book. Also, Paramount isn't going to do anything about the cast, and they shouldn't. They picked a great group so far and I trust their judgement.
This movie is meant as...sort of an extension in the Avatar franchise. It's supposed to remind everyone why they love avatar so much! So stop complaining until you ACTUALLY SEE the movie!!
You can support this whitewashing, but don't tell us not to complain about defending our rights to have a say! We are Asians and Inuit peopel want to be represented as such in a movie that will display the cultures of those people accurately. How exactly do you expect us to suspend our disbelief in a movie where white people will play as Asians and Inuit? Are you crazy?! If we aren't happy about the cast, of course we are going to complain as fans and as Asian Americans who love Avatar.
The voice actors are mostly a white cast! That never seems to come across anyone's mind!
I'm not trying to sound racist at all, but a white cast has just as much right to play these parts as any Asian actor! I admit that some parts would be best played by an Asian actor (like Iroh), but really whoever is best for the part should have their chance to prove it. There are lot of characters, and a lot of people to choose from and fans (if they are true fans) should trust in them.
...(cont'd) because Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko also have a say in who the cast will be. They know what's best for the show and the fans, so trust them, and have faith! They created the show...they know that this decision is important not only to the movies in general, but to the fans, so I'm sure they've thought it over and gone over it backwards and forwards, so you should respect their decision.
So I'm not a true fan? A white cast of voice actors don't reflect much of any "white washing". Using Anglo Saxon looking characters to portray Asians is a direct insult to the integrity of the soul of the series, since ironically the animated series did in fact, use Asian and Inuit facial features in the Avatar Universe. Now how is there any logic in this heinous degree of Anglo-fication? Dante and Bryan has a say in the cast, but we, are the fans that contribute to their work! I think we should
The cast is going to do a fantastic job, whether or not they are "white" or not. People need to stop making this a race thing when it really isn't. They cast the people they thought were best for the part, so they must have been impressed.
Despite what some STUBBORN fans say, I think they did great in casting the movie and nobody has a right to judge until AFTER the movie comes out!
This cast is going to blow everyone away, so to all the people trying to change the cast...get over it!
I agree. I'm getting tired of people just assuming that the fan outcry is not going to do anything to get the cast changed. We're making a huge effort to get this whitewashed cast removed! The media is even starting to take notice. At the rate this is going, Paramount is going to have to change their cast or deal with alot of pissed off people.
its people like u with ur kind of attitude that doesnt get things done... as far as i know the casting choices arent final, and anyways just cos the chances of changing the cast are slim, doesnt mean we shouldnt try... plus hopefully if people make a big enough effort things might actually change, maybe not in this movie but future movies... frankly im sick of seeing an asian person being in the background, and only playing there stereotypical roles
