What a set of lungs and what a voice...Yma Sumac was the greatest ..Noone could find such register in a voice! She was like an unique diamond.a true jewel that would be impossible to find again..

Our vinyl copy of this was heat-damaged in a move :( Thanks for posting this, it will inspire me to try to find another vinyl recording... cds do lose some of the nuances, I noticed, or maybe it's just the pressing of the particular cds we have.
OMG! - I've just discovered this on YouTube! - I haven't heard this since the late 60's!!!! She's AWESOME!!! - My father had her 'Xtabay' and 'Virgin of the Sun God' records. She sang in a double voice (I kid you not!) on one of them!
Someone have the lyrics of this song? Because there is a mayan legend with the same name, a mayan woman, very popular in Mexico.

A beautiful strange woman with a marvelous voice! More than a princess, she was a godess.

I still have this album, sadly with modern technology, I don't have a record player.
I always admired her voice.
My father had the album when I was little and this song I loved the most.
Now after years I'm so happy I found this great music back on you tube!!!

For me, this was the defining rendition of her defining song. This *is* the essence of Yma.

I have this title in a dark-red shellac 78rpm record. The other side is "Virgin of the sun God" -- Great Singer. One of my favourites...
