And I think you mean Dezmond. This game, I heard, STILL HAS THE SAME PROTAGONIST. Remember, the main character of the series is dezmond. The whole series is him reliving memories of his assassin ancestors. Instead of seeing Altair's memories, now he will see Ezio. When they say it is WAAAAAAY in the future, they mean in memories lol :P

everybody, the reason he doesn't have any fingers cut off is cause this takes place 300 years after the first one, and Da Vinci re-wrote the design for the wrist blade to fit without losing fingers.

The reason his finger is not cut off is because, not only did the best assassins have their finger cut off but in this time period, Guards are realizing that assassins have a missing finger. This makes it harder for them to follow one of the assassin's tenats: Hide in plain sight.
