  • I grew up reading the comics Jack Kirby illustrated, they were my main source of entertainment as a child and they helped spark my imagination. I feel sorry for kids today. They have so much to keep them entertained that nothing will ever be as important to them as comics were to me

  • When I was a kid,and saw my first marvel comic, two to be exact. The X-Men and Thor,it was Jack Kirby's art that did it. I so much wanted to draw like the King, that iconic posture drawn, over extended anatomy, that dynamic action, those black cosmic energy bubbles. I wanted to be a comic book artist, when I saw his work for the first time.

  • I'm a graphic artist, myself, and I consider Jack Kirby my one and ONLY mentor.

The man was a pop-art genius. Not even Warhol could beat Kirby's work.

  • In a world of hyper detail Kirby is still the best because his work was electric and dynamic.

  • one year later

  • God bless Jack & Roz Kirby!

  • Jack kirby is the reason I became a cartoonist!

    Long Live The King!!

  • It was 17 years ago today, he left us. i shed a tear, when i seen his opit in the paper. it was such a little one they printed, when it should have been the big story of the day.

  • Sounds like a really humble guy. That's the thing abt comics, they create great work but they're behind the scenes unless ur really pursuint & into it...

  • i'm glad jack saw his book "the art of jack kirby"published while he was still here.thanks for all the great memories from reading all your books growing up.my brothers and i passed them around.thor, the f.f.,captain america, the demon, the new gods, kamandi to name just a few.where you inspired me to get back into drawing comics.jack kirby was the leonardo davinci of the 20th century.wish i could have met you jack.a huge regret.without kirby there would be no comics.

  • Had he lived, it would have been great to see him in the X Men movies doing a cameo.

  • LEGEND

  • Too bad he had to pass.... R.I.P Jack Kirby

  • Too bad he never got to see Hollywood giving his creations the Blockbuster treatment...

  • Jack Kirby and Stan Lee are the John Lennon and Paul McCartney of comic books.

  • R.I.P. King Kirby

  • he is the father of the greatest super hero ever. Long live Jack The King Kirby and Steve Captain America Rodger's!

  • Thanks for jack Kirby's hard work, without him the world wouldve been so boring.

  • He looks very sad.As Jack patients..I grieved

  • this man was a god, he's always been such a huge insipration for many artists, myself included. I don't know if there will ever be another artist as influential as Kirby was on the industry.

  • I consider this man my brother. I met Stan once. Never met jack though. Its okay...I'll see you at the crossroads bro.

  • T.T wish i coulda met him

  • kirby dots for crying out loud

  • Love the kirby crackle! I don't know how he thought of it but it sure is a standard for wild energy.

  • I wish he would've been treated better in life

  • I saw him at the San Diego Comic Con in 1992 & walked past him. I didn't want to bother him. A legend!

  • Kirby was a legend. His work output was astronomical and he (co-)created countless characters.

  • By far the best comic book artist EVER !!!!!!!!!

  • Kirby is king!

Thanks for posting this great clip. A lost gem!

  • Woah

Kirby basically tells the future RIGHT HERE

  • I love how today's animation pay homage to kirbys style when ever they show a character he designed. I think the Silver Surfer cartoon was the first to do it.

  • I really wish I could have met Kirby

    just once,

Sad to say I really got into his artwork at the end of his life and just never got the chance to meet him and say something like

    "Thank you for everything".

  • The rating on this vid should be 5 stars without question but clearly some people TODAY have absolutely no clue about the real history of comics and comic FILM. I can't help but be angry that ANYONE who clearly loves comics would rate this below 4.

  • Excellent and rare footage of the KING OF COMICS and now arguably the King Of Movies. He is not kidding when he says they are using 'themes' aka ideas and concepts that he truly created. Every Marvel movie ever made has some Jack and X-men, FF and even Spider-man would not exist or be interesting without him. Even Batman: The Dark Night owes a LOT to this man who, with Stan Lee, saved the comics industry in the 60's and made the big budget films possible.
