@whitehousetexas Nanette is definitely a sweetie and a terrific 'gal' and I love this/her...and I think it's right up there with Ms. Irene Dunne's first WML appearance. Both terrific!!
And "Thank you" to whomever is posting these wonderful clips!! It really was a different world back in those days!
@GPa2010 I'll have to try to find Ms. Irene Dunne's first WML. It's such an entertaining escape to join in on the huge smiles and eye-watering laughter of that world. We're lucky it's oh-so-familiar (I'm 45). Yeah, golden clips shared by awesome people!
@whitehousetexas Indeed!! I watched them as a boy (I'm 60), I just love these gems.
FYI...I've been watching the 6 part interview with Ms Fabray done some years back (she's 84 at the time) and she looks so good and her stories are so interesting. She's an incredible Lady!
@GPa2010 Well, actually, I first commented here just after I'd come across and commented on that. Yeah, she's so much the same that I expected the interviewer at any moment to "squeal" and expose her as the last remaining survivor of an early 80s' body snatcher invasion or something, ha ha . I remember I was mesmerized by beauty with such quickness of expression and talk. WML was quite a discovery for me about 10 years ago via Game Show Channel reruns.
Fabray was known for choosing more than her fair share of stage flops as well as for turning down roles that went on to win awards, attain legendary status, or do both - Phyllis Rogers Stone in 'Follies' being one.
In producer Gil Fates' book on "What's My Line?", he identifies Charles Laughton as the Mystery Guest on 11-18-1956, rather than Nanette Fabrary (Appendix 1, list of Mystery Guests 1st time appearances). I believe there's also a YouTube posting of that clip. Regardless of the date, it was an absolutely delightful and extremely funny Mystery Guest spot ("Don't tell him, Dorothy!"). Thank you for posting it.
Ms. Nanette was and is sunshine personified. And, once again (pointing out time capsule references), it's wonderful to hear her mention that she is scheduled to do "a PLAYHOUSE 90" in the near future. Great clip.
What a delight she is! What I love about What's My Line is the interaction between Mr. Daly and the panelists..and all the shenanigans they go thru trying to guess the famous "Mystery Guest". Nanette always brightened the screen when she appeared. Thanks for sharing this cute segment.
In each show, the moderator, the panelists and the guests, all seem to truly have a fun time!

Wouldn't you like to live next door to Nanette Fabray? Think of some of today's
celebrities...you wouldn't want to be in the same town with Charlie Sheen or Lady Gaga.

I don't know if she was hard to work with or what, but she never had as big a career as one might have expected.
I think Fred Astaire was not crazy about her in "The Bandwagon", but I could be wrong.
A real, "genuine" talent.

Nanette Fabray is awesome! And she was also awesome in the musical "The Bandwagon."
...I especially like the hayride song that she does, but there are many, many fun and cool scenes in the film.
In that film she is very cute, comical...pure fun!
...Cyd Charisse was also awesome and very beautiful in that film...I like her in her red dress dancing with Fred Astair in the bar scene.

Nanette to Dorothy LOL
For those in the YouTube audience unfamiliar with either William Bendix or Nannette Fabray
Bendix: The Life of Riley in one of those places that have streaming audio from the golden age of radio. No revoltin development that is.
My favorite Fabray movie is "The Bandwagon."
That's a great place to start.
