@Suprnovo3 if you want to display a sphere it will need 100's or 1000's of polygons to look like a sphere, if that sphere turns into a cube it will only need six polygons to look like a cube.
presuming you want both of them to look smooth
this being the case the computing power can be put to better use, like better frame rate, realistic lighting etc
i have this installed but there is no camera movement. no cinematic animations. i can only navigate in the cave and it has no collision. i can fly through everything :((( please help me!
@Suprnovo3 AMEN to that. i guess people have forgotten the days of software rendering and how it all depends on skill rather than the tools you are given.
@Suprnovo3 yeap.. Polygons matter... but still DX 11 is not offering something for the visual effects out of da box eh... I will try to send you some 3d max renderings to show you (or may be make a vid) and explain my view... ;) later....
(constructive criticism always helps you understand things better)
@Suprnovo3 awesome graphics are not all about poly count mate. It depends on the developer to go towards a photo realistic effect or a fully artificial look. illumination, self shadowing, penumbra effects, soft shadows reflect/refract are a bit of things that work on DX API and the hardware pipelines (shaders etc) beneath it. increasing poly count is all about a step towards more detailed models. now tell me " more details on models without ways to easily process the above effects = ????
@Anandaxp Tesselation(a dx11 feature) is pretty much a polygon multiplier, it increases polycount (and in turn detail) in games anywhere between 4x and 64x without much of a performance hit. If you want a decent list of DX11 features read the "making of crysis 2 dx11 patch"
@buddysmithburg why will i need more polygons in my games?? games are the only thing keeps me sticked to windows. if crysis 1 did all that wonder and physics in dx 9, am satisfied.....
@OktoberklubBerlin Don't even dare to say that. DX11 is the first directx to support tesselation, not even dx10 supports that, and it adds AMAZING details.
Well it's about 15 DX11 games so far, I know AVP, Dirt 2, and Metro 2033 use some tessellation, not that much though. The other games can't say for sure.
@Usul573 stalker: call of pripyat uses DX11 tessellation but it has a poor heightmap, meaning the tessellated shape doesn't match how light shadows on clothes. they skipped on alot of things, like parallax mapping (3D but flat) bricks instead of tessellation (real 3D displacements).
What is tesselation?

looks nice, was this realtime rendering or just a showcase for dx11?

@TheFlameFox its realtime, i think u can find it on google and download the demo and test it urself.

Actually it's nothing special. You can do the same with DX9!

No it's a pretty subtle effect, at least so far.
Usul573 1 year ago
@Usul573 Did you see Unigine Heaven
santiainen 1 year ago
@santiainen
Yeah it's made to show off DX11, some stuff looks way more flat than it can in games, then it shows the big difference.
It's nice though, we'll see what they can do with it, but so far it's just been pretty subtle in games.
Usul573 1 year ago
@Usul573 Games don't use it fully yet. Actually I'm not sure if they use it at all.

Ok, then look at it this way:
Let's presume that the insects want to get in his cracks (for whatever reason).
Insect1: - Hey guys, let's get into his cracks!
Insects: - Yaaaaaay!
So they crawl in, and find: STONE
Golem: - LOL u gayz, what did you expect to find there, a cardio-vascular system? Blood?
Insects: - FUCK!
So the insects get frustrated, start pissing off each other, and then starve to death or leave.
Golem: - I can has all the time of the world, n00bz!
