This track from underrated album Revolution by Night is proof their is life after Agents of Fortune and further proof that Fire of Unknown Origin was not simply a one trick pony, hey I even enjoy Club Ninja and that is really pushing the boat out lol.
Guess who is playing bass on this one (I hope no one already said this in the previous comments)? Randy Jackson, the black guy who was a judge on American Idol. If you don't believe it, look it up! Long live BOC, greatest band ever.
Anyone see the similar creatures being used in "Shooting Shark"...and Depeche Modes,"In your room"...Years apart but same artistic directions here.Wonder if it was the same director for videos?
WOW... B.O.C. has a bastard child with Miami Sound Machine. Another example of a great 70's band jumping on the sad 80's big overblown sound. NEEDS more COW BELL. P.S. What the fuck is a shooting shark?
Given the line "Three time I saw the shooting shark lighting up the sky", I'm guessing it's meant to be some kind of astronomical item, such as a constellation, or a comet.
@clubninjarock Right, we still waiting for the remastered CDs, from OYF to Revolution by Night. But well, we had the first three, but still wondering for more !!! BOC is out of reach, out of this earth. Gods...
I hate pop music. That being said, BOC has had a lot of pop songs, and dammit, there's not ONE BOC I can dislike to the point of not listening to it. Yes, sometimes I'm too embarassed to play a song or two for friends, but most assuredly, I've NEVER hit FF or "next track" when I'm listening...I know every lyric to every song by BOC...I'm proud, mostly:)...My 3rd favorite band, behind Rush and Tool.
@bstensland BÖC is right at the top of my favorites. I know most of the lyrics, but I can't match Buck Dharma's guitar licks. He seems to stretch his hand across the fretboard sometimes with that damned lightning fast pinky.
It's obvious! There's this guy and he meets this old guy at a BBQ but you have to bring your own food. The entertainment is so-so but the old guy does a cool trick with a deep fried head. Well anyway he has to leave because he's late for a date with a goat in a dress but he's pissed when a chick shows up instead. He starts waving a gun and shootin' lamps and shit. All wise hermit shark tells him to ditch the fat biker chick with the nose chain and focus his talents on bird watching.
"Oh it's a hard love to love you it takes up all my time
Having you so familiar like past lives and nursery rhymes"
OMFG, I just now learned what Buck was saying............. Holy Shieeet!!! I've got years of memories with this song and I'm just in tears right now....I would play it with my own lyrics, but damn... this is totally blowing my mind away..... Thank you Buck, you are a fucken godammed master of lyrics and of sonofabitchin guitar. I mean that respectively. BOC ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah, she wrote the lyrics for several of their songs--Career of Evil is another well-known example. She was also an early candidate for lead singer before they decided on Eric Bloom.
Old school. BOC never made it over the top into mainstream like a lot of less talented bands....so what? They R still one of the best ever....& nothin else matters, least of all, what mainstream music lovers like...
Hey macseinchin, don't know whether your post was in jest or not, but afaik most if not all of the bass track for this song (in the studio, at least) was performed by none other than Randy Jackson of 'American Idol' fame. I dunno, maybe I'm wrong. Believe it or not, dawg...
Fair enough. Some of the comments way back here say this, so I believe it. I guess he's in a different league to Joe B, as much as I admire Joe B as a writer and player.

I love BOC at least as much as the next person and this is one of my favorite songs of theirs. But the video bums me out...I have worked with domestic violence victims and their survivors...why the images of lethal gun violence? Thers is NOTHING entertaining about lethal domestic violence, so why even use it in art? It's below Buck to do this..So unnecessary from these artists, they get attention with their huge talent.
The dit of this song doesn't give you everything. Its lost the dreamlike quality. The original version from Buck's independantly produced Cd has these spiraling guitar leads that just drop me to my knees and make me cry.
The lyrics to this song are by Patti Smith. Buck found them in a notebook and used them.

I just dedicated this to my brother Anders who passed away at age 46 two weeks ago. He introduced me to Blue Oyster Cult.
PeterRoeder31 7 months ago 17
@PeterRoeder31 : "Shooting Shark" is merely a cryptic title, is my guess.
And for as much as I appreciate the Blue Oyster Cult, I wish they'd made
the synthesizer and processed drum effects a little more cryptic on this
song and the album it's lifted from. Way too 1980s influenced.
