if you listen closely he says "avoid 3" in his introduction...witch means avoid can numer 3. the order he shows her the cans is important the plack one ist numer 3. so she picks up numer 1, 2 and 4. thats how he knows in witch order she will pick the cans....

Has nothing to with it. Its just the predictability of how humans perceive colour as either good or bad. Of course this wouldn't work on everybody at all times, however, Derren obviously picks people who he is certain it will work on.

Of course Derren picks his victims who will work best in front of a TV camera, i.e young, naive, female, university student. That's why in his earlier career most of his tours were on the university campus scene. He might have learned from this, exactly the "type" of people he could work with.

I have done a similar thing on a "Young", "Female", "Naive", "University Student" in my street who was volunteering and rattling a tin for Greenpeace, during her summer holidays, to earn some extra cash. I did the simple 7 of diamonds card trick, exactly the way Derren does it - She REALLY did think that I had read her mind somehow and thought it was quite creepy. Still she never rattled her tin at me again. Naive students are dead easy to spot - Honest.
