Where your credit is concerned, non-payment of credit card debt is better than bankruptcy. Bankruptcy is a ten-year deep freeze on your credit, while the effects of late payments and charge-offs ease with time
Its all about the herd mentality...she has to do it because everyone else is doing it. Reason doesn't matter. Same goes with Facebook. The sheeple/herd is on Facebook bareing their private lives with complete disregard to their own privacy...just becuase everyone else is on Facebook too. So it feels like it cant be wrong or bad. Yet reasoning only dawns much later when you get burnt from it..like in this case through defaulting student loans and no income source to pay it off.
im about 60,000 dollars in debt.. education is a waste of time and money here in the usa.. becasue after you graduated 90% of student wont find a job on the career they study.. and wont be able to make the 500 dollars payments ..
You could get a college education just by going to Barnes and Nobles for 8 hours a day. Just sit and read on those little sofas, then put the book back on the shelf and go home.
this is the system we live in you could google and learn about anything and become more educated about a particular subject then any college student (fact proven by my friend Gio no college education but is an American History Expert) all you pay for in schooll is for your degree. its a failed system. why should we have to pay thousands of dollars of education then be in debt for the next 25 years
I suggest any current or future student looks at things realistically.
Input expected debt into a program (assuming all school paid in loans) and see what your minimum payment/pay-off time will be.
Then input best circumstance net pay, worst, and average. Consider 20% of that net goes to savings/debt repayment. That should help you realize how important it is to think fiscally, pay now, and not rush into debt. Even if it means taking a semester off periodically to solely work.
I think it's sad, a lot of students go into college with no idea about financial planning. Most of them have been living with mom and dad and haven't had bills for the most part.
So they get to school and have no problem accumulating debt, not seeing the big picture of how it's going to hurt them.
It would be best if they'd proportion work, study, and affordable schools. Always maintaining a high percentage of pay now versus debt.
@halflinks there are uses for philosophy but its not as likely as other career paths to lead to employment opportunities. I'd say go ahead and minor in philosophy if you are interested but major in something you can apply to a job more easily. (talking about people in general, not specific cases, obviously there are exceptions to every rule)
From Wikipedia: Kasparian graduated from California State University, Northridge in 2007 with a bachelor's degree in broadcast journalism. She completed her master's degree in political science in 2010.
Wow, what a hypocrite? I guess only superior people like her can only study anything they want?
@Roguemember she is a broadcast journalist and she went to a state school and took out no student loans... so she found employment in her field of study and came out of it with no loans... and she needed the polysci degree too because she is a commentator on news shows... I don't see the hypocrisy
How was she able to pay for it then? Her parents? Wow, not everybody has that privilege. And now she's telling people not to study what they want even though she was able to? That's hypocrisy. How come she can and not everybody else?
1.) she's not saying NEVER take courses you're interested in. While you're at college you have time to expand even while developing your central interest or useful major.
2.) Not everybody has her privelage... so what? All she said in this video was A Study something USEFUL and B try not to take out college loans (or as few as possible) meaning enter the state or community college system. Both of these things she did herself. No hypocrisy
That's because you lived w/ your parents and didn't have to worry about paying other expenses. Or because you had some sort of financial support. Oh and maybe you didn't have that $20,000 in debt when you were only 22 yrs old and had to struggle on a very low salary.
This problem isn't going away and it's only going to get far worse. Nothing will change until we get our manufacturing base back to America with REAL jobs that create Real living wages. This nightmare is a direct result of "Globalism" or "World Collectivism" and the IMF giving monetary incentives to major corporations to leave America thus, destroying our economy and the future of our young people.
This is all by design to create a World Government based on Socialist Feudalist Collectivism.
I guess you are one of the lucky ones. I didn't think philosophers have much prospects in the work force. Look, I have a fine arts degree, and looking back, I wished I would have taken a different degree that would land me a better job. But that's just me. Anyway, you seem to have a pretty strong stance against this news organization. So, who do you think we should listen to instead? Could you recommend some more credible news sources?
Education today is akin to factory farming, i.e., factory education to program the students for the corporate Ponzi scheme of slavery and servitude. Their debts ensure their financial and economic slavery for the rest of their life.
This is why i swore to never go to a school unless i could pay for it upfront. Fuck your collegian ideals, save up the money for school and stop relying on free rides from loans.
Do you need a degree to be a cop? Hell no! To be a soldier? Hell no! To be a doctor ? Hell yes! Most of the jobs don't need a degree! But those "business men", wan someone with degree ( and debt) , because they can make that person a slave. That's the reason why they want degrees.
This is another example of how a real solution is required. That Solution is an Equal Money System. EqualMoney . org = REAL SOLUTION. Where education will be provided for All.
Job market is terrible. This generation going from age 18-30 is the lost generation. Even if you become a doctor, it's not as glamourous or respected as the ER, House, or Grey's Anatomy TV shows would have you believe.
The Jews really screwed up the USA and most of the "Western" world's economies. Same scam in education as in housing.
Businesses do NOT train new workers. Old workers are leaving. Lost human capital. No financial capital for entrepreneurs. There's no way to rebuild. HAHA.
@Eginyn Nurse, engineer fall under science. None of the positions you named needed a degree when the jobs where first created. The degree came later to put you in a position to work off debt. CIA, FBI, Police, lawyer, teacher are all government jobs created to keep the education institute and cycle of debt in motion. See the irony? Business managers don't need degrees unless the employer sets it as a prerequisite. Computer Tech didnt need degrees in 1992. The curriculum hadn't even been created.
It is sad that chosing what to study has become a business. And it specially hits the humanities, not only Philosophy. But we also need these subjects. Philosophy includes ethics. And it's not only important to do things, it's only necessary to THINK about things, that's what you need humanities for and it sure it good for the government that people become working machines and stop thinking.
Well why can't the Government bail out the people like they did with the stupid big banks and the stupid corporations! I am sure the college grads would not have any problems paying off the student loans if they get a nice check from the Government, but the Government is run by Corporations and they are wasting tons of money on wars and other bullshit.
WHOA!!! OK now I see why young people aren't so phased when I tell them their share of national debt is about $35k. Well as harsh as it is, it's good to see the reality check instead of the loan check for young people. Well the USA will either default on it's debt or we'll inflate the currency to the point you can pay off your loans in a day.
