Just for the geeky record a Stargate does not need a Z.P.M. Only when it is dialing to another galxy. Inter-stellar travel requires alot of power, but not a Z.P. M.

@MrPodperson I was under the impression that they used the naquadah generators that they brought along from Earth to power the Stargate (and other normal things like lights and computers), in order to conserve the ZPM for the shield and such. Of course, it could have been a mix of the two; I'm certainly no scientist/engineer so I have no idea. :D

@telkesh well, it doesn't really need ZPM even if you're dialing to another galaxy, it just needs more energy than usual, it's true that it's usually ZPM, but not always, e. g. the Asgards obviously didn't use ZPM, they had different technology than the Ancients
