Great reworking but -- why does it show Obama -- when Obama (like bail outs or not) actually SAVED jobs in the auto industry. In fact Unemployment is slowly dwindling. YES, not fast enough -- but Obama is in no way a ROMNEY who FIRED everybody who worked for him. - He;s no way a Gingrich who supported outsourcing. He's in no way a Ron Paul who believes the corporations have a right to fire Americans and outsource to other countries. -- I'm just sayin.'
I did not know that Tom Petty, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins and Willie Nelson did anything all together before. I knew that Johnny Cash sang with Tom Petty, Carl Perkins and Willie Nelson seperately, but I did not know he sang with them together.
@manhatin I'm happy to see that you went down the middle when posting this song/video. and by middle i mean not pointing fingers one way or the other. The entire Government, left and right, is responsible for the current state of the economy. I got laid off a year ago and 'Give me back my job' has been a going theme since.
gangerollo, Thanks. before there was a manhatin, there was ( and is ) a public access tv show here in Cincinnati called, " Who's The Guy In the Hat?". When I decided to give YouTube a whirl, I figured that manhatin would be a properly warped version of the title to use as my "nom de plume".
Anonnimmy, "I wonder: who will write such a track to describe what will happen to those workers' children if they got their wish?" Maybe one of Carl Perkin's grandkids.
barahona44 , We, as Americans, accepted the idea that we could shop for a living. It was an idea sold to us. Now that the well is dry, for many Americans, cheap goods aren't all that attractive.
allstondave , I thought long and hard about the credits ( there are none). I can give a clue about the music. It was done by five of the biggest names in rock and roll. It was released in 1996 and the guy who sings the last verse wrote the song. I think this song has been laying around for the last twelve years waiting for it's time to come.

Brilliant track, which describes so well the view of the ordinary worker.
I wonder: who will write such a track to describe what will happen to those workers' children if they got their wish?
Not a flame: a great track, and it made me feel stuff. But complex issues are complex.

Americans aren't interested in American jobs.If they can save a few bucks on something made overseas, they will.
